I don't typically leave negative reviews, but I felt this experience was worth sharing. Unfortunately, my visit to Be Smooth was disappointing from the moment I arrived. The front door was locked, and I was left waiting outside until someone eventually let me in. It wasn't the most welcoming first impression for a business centered around selfcare and relaxation. As soon as I walked inside, I was greeted by a strong odor that reminded me of food that had recently been heated in a microwave. It was quite noticeable and unexpected in a spa setting, where I generally expect a clean, fresh, and calming environment. During my threading appointment, Kennedy came across as rushed, somewhat dismissive, and as though she would rather be somewhere else. I understand everyone has difficult days, but I never felt particularly welcomed or at ease. The service felt transactional rather than thoughtful. What concerned me most, however, was overhearing employees speaking loudly about their dissatisfaction with management while I was using the restroom. Hearing internal workplace frustrations discussed within earshot of clients created an uncomfortable and unprofessional atmosphere. The salon itself also lacked the warm, polished feel I expect from an esthetics business. The space felt dated and visually disjointed, without much cohesion or attention to detail. Rather than feeling intentionally designed, it came across as somewhat thrown together, with a few decorative touches that felt mismatched and a bit tacky. Overall, the environment could really benefit from an update to create a more inviting, relaxing experience. I genuinely wanted to enjoy my visit, but the combination of the atmosphere, the service, and the overall energy left me disappointed. I liked that I could find a same day service on a Saturday. Prices were not over expensive either. It's a fare price. The store keeps their doors locked and monitors the flow of traffic in their store, a little unusual for me. The vibe from the lady at the front t desk was a bit off. Not so welcoming BUT this was all forgotten when Skye brought me in to service my underarm and Brazilian wax. I regularly schedule appointments for face extractions with Jana. My face is very sensitive, and I've had the best results with minimum redness since I started booking stractions with her. She's really sweet and professional. I went from having a very bad case of acne to having a smooth and clean face over the last year, and I think these sessions were a big part of it. She is very knowledgeable about skin plus she's so sweet! They're now in a new location (which is still in the Pearl) and it is an upgrade. I went in to see Helene, the owner, for a wax a week ago and it was the best waxing experience I've ever had. Brazilians are always scary to me but since I had such a comfortable and effective waxing experience, I cannot wait to come back! (Did I really say that?!) Another plus: The prices here are more reasonable compared to other waxing salons in the area. Today, I came in to see Helene again for their signature French facial. I feel that I have a solid skincare routine but recently experienced some dryness. My facial took place in a spacious, private room and I felt so comfortable. I left with smooth, glowing, hydrated skin... and great skincare tips from Helene. I just read on Yelp that she was a chemist for Christian Dior. OMG! Helene also carries high quality products. She provided me a generous sample to try to help with my skin concerns. I cannot wait to try it! Also, the decor is adorable... French themed so I feel like I'm in France. I adore this spot. I have been here twice now and have had an extremely positive experience each time. I have extremely acne prone skin and each time was given highly-personalized care. This last time around Shauna spent our time together doing expert extractions, just a day later my puffy, Welty face is looking glowy and much clearer. I called to book an appointment. The whole process seem hectic since. They're were struggling dealing with clients and answering the phone. They told me I had an appointment and even send me an email confirmation. When I arrived they told me they friend to calm back and left a voice mail which I never received or saw any missed call. But I arrived and they told me they decided to book a Davian instead of my thread services. I was so disappointed and the only thing I got was " sorry. " not even caring about my time or anything. Lame attitude. And now I wonder if it was the best if they're not able to handle a phone call would they will be able to handle taking care of my eyebrows ? Seems like not or they preferred to book a more expensive service over mine. So I wouldn't recomend going to a place where they don't care about you but all they care is about your money. this place has sadly been going down hill. the location and space is great but it feels like all their good estheticians have left. I got my brows waxed and tinted by someone new since my usual girl left and I told her to start with less and we can wax more if need be. after the wax and tint it looked like I had caterpillars for eyebrows so I asked her to pluck a little more and she basically told me no because she didn't want them to be too thin.... so that was unusual. I didn't argue and went home and plucked them myself. prices are fine, cost about $40 for a wax and tint. Sadly, I think I'll start going somewhere new though even if I have to pay a little extra. read more

I have been getting my eyebrows waxed for years now and have been to many different places (in San Francisco and Portland)- this is the best so far. Ive had two different people work on me and both have done an excellent job. My aesthetician of choice now is Lupe. She accommodates my request of "no plucking" beautifully, her technique is on point- she removes the wax strip extremely fast so the pain is minimal. She is also very easy to communicate with and is more than happy to make little tweaks or adjust the shape as needed to satisfy me. I do like my eyebrows a bit thinner than most people and have run into resistance from providers at other places- but not here. I'm picky and sensitive and always feel very well cared for here. I am of the impression that they have very high standards for the people they hire. Additionally, the place is very clean, classy, and everyone I have interacted with, including front desk people and the owner (presumably), have been very pleasant (despite the fact that I am habitually a few minutes late). The French music is another nice touch. I look forward to trying a facial here in the future. read more

Overall I like this place and have enjoyed coming here. I have gotten my eyebrows threaded and gotten spray tans. My main feedback is that they need to do more thorough consultations with their spray tans. It seems they have one color choice and you get what you get. I asked for a light tan and my hands and feet are extremely splotchy and i am a bronzy orange color. It costs about $50 to get a tan here so they should be more customizable. I will say, i did reach out to the owner and she offered to refund me and gave me tips on how to get it off. (unfortunately, it didn't work...) but i appreciated her response and willingness to make it right. read more

This review is LONG overdue. I honestly just thought of it because of another experience I had, but I thought I'd note my experience here. I had a "facial" here in 2015 I believe. It was.not.good. Let me run you through your "facial" First, a steamer blows in your face while you're left alone in a chair by the window for the world to see for 15 minutes. The steam was sucked up by the air conditioning mostly and the girl couldn't figure out how to fix it. Next, they clarisonic your face. One: gross. Who else used this brush? and two: I already own a clairosnic I'm not paying someone to clarisonic my face. Last, they used what I could only explain as an ultrasonic spatula (('ll include a picture)) to dig into my skin. It was SO painful. Since this experience I've had multiple facials, none have been so painful as this. I got the express treatment I think it was 60 dollars. I would literally never go back here. What I received was a poor excuse for a facial, painful and didn't improve the quality, done or texture of my skin. read more

I never had acne until the end of 2019, i had no idea why i was breaking out so bad on both sides of my cheeks. I ate really healthy, no junk food or soda so it was a mystery. I started coming here for the mandalic peel masks about once a month (until covid hit and they had to close and then i moved to LA) but it helped a lot. I still use their face wash, acne cream and mandalic acid serum everyday. my break outs stopped being so bad a few months ago and since the year started i havent broke out except for a pimple here and there. I do think drinking carrot juice everyday has also helped, gives my skin a nice glow.
