I continue to be impressed by the service, skill and professionalism exhibited by the business owner, Laura. She maintains a busy schedule so booking early is a must! The new, larger salon/spa space offers room for her and Kayla to provide services simultaneously, additionally providing room for waiting clients. I have been visiting Laura for the last several years and I am happy to see the changes and growth she has achieved with both her services and retail line of products. read more

Totally recommend Laura. She is the best. So thorough, friendly, and professional. She is the sweetest ever. The space is so cozy and clean, smells amazing. Plenty of parking in the area too which is great. read more

I've been going to Laura for almost 6 years now and boy am I happy I made my first appointment! I consider her a friend and an amazing person, there is no absolutely one else that I would trust with my sugaring! She is knowledgeable, friendly, works quickly (can be a bit painful sometimes - you know...the 'ol hair removal process), and makes you feel comfortable the whole time. I get my brows sugared and dyed with Laura too, and they're gorgeous every time. She also makes a lot of her own products, which is awesome! Don't forget the facials too...to die for. All services are reasonably priced and well worth it. If you're looking for someone new to take care of your hair removal or other self care needs (e.g., lashes, facials, face wash, face wash, moisturizer, body lotion, etc.) Laura and Kayla have you covered...#treatyoself read more

My facial here was very meh. I've been having some breakouts on my chin so I decided to get the Acne Ease Facial for $110. It's expensive but the description made it sound worth it. The woman who did it was really nice, and the facility was cute, but this facial was like 10% face treatment and 90% light massage. I mentioned before we began that if there was any massage, I prefer a deep/heavy touch, so when it was so light despite that, I felt bad mentioning it again (maybe that's my bad?). I think the treatment could have been easily shortened to 30 mins of pure facial treatment with the same result. And usually after a facial my skin looks really dewy and glowy - this one has it looking and feeling the same as always. That said, if you love light touch massage and more of a relaxing facial experience vs a "get'er done" kind, you'll love this. read more

I used to be a skeptic about facial. I thought it was impossible this treatment would relaxed me like how massage would relax me. I was wrong wrong wrong...I stumbled upon Opaline because I received a gift certificate as a Christmas present. It was good for the Organic Bliss facial. I'm glad that I received that present because now I'm a facial believer. Anna the owner of Opaline who's also happened to be Facial Goddess treated my skin carefully and explained to me what's going on with my skin. She told me products that she used on me and those products felt amazing on my face. Not only that she's also massaged my neck, the top of my back, my shoulders, and it was completely relaxing. I fell asleep off and on during the treatment. After the facial, my face felt so clean and it's brighter. My skin felt tight and I wanted to take a nap as soon as I got home. One more positive thing about Anna is that, she doesn't believe in pushing products. She's rather let you try the product and see the result yourself before you make a purchase. I love that I don't have to feel pressure to make a purchase. :). I'm looking forward to make more appointments for facial with Anna. Opaline is definitely two thumbs up in my beauty dictionary. read more

I'm going to preface this by saying that Laura was very nice and this review has nothing to do with her as a person, but as a sugaring esthetician... Not great. Mind you, I've been sugared numerous times before by another sugaring expert. I had my underarms and brows sugared by Laura. My eyebrows and general eye area were sensitive for a couple days. A couple of days of sensitivity from sugaring is NOT normal. And what is even less normal? Extended redness. My underarms are still sore and red, FOUR DAYS LATER. When she was pulling the sugar off, it kept getting stuck, thus causing a much more painful experience than sugaring ever should be. Definitely not returning. read more

My sister took me to Opaline for birthday facials. What a sweet little business! Anna was really welcoming and easy going. My facial was relaxing, relaxing, relaxing. I honestly have no negative feedback about my experience. Here's what I else liked: Anna uses natural, local products. They smelled divine and were quality, as well as affordable. The last facial I had used also good products, but they weren't all natural, and definitely not affordable. When she talked to my sister and I about them, it was clear she only chose a few companies she truly valued. It was 75 minutes of total attention. The hot towels, the facial massage (as well as shoulders and neck), the extractions, etc. Even during the mask, Anna performed Reiki. It was really relaxing and (dare I say) moving. I wasn't sure if I'd even notice the Reiki, but I really did. Anna was knowledgeable and catered to our differences. She used a line for my sister's combination skin and a different one for my skin, which is more dry. She has this cute, little, one-woman studio. It's natural and small, and also inviting. My sister and I took turns reading in the chair while the other got her facial. Anna didn't talk the whole time. I really appreciate when the person is friendly and helps you with the process as you ask questions, but then allows you to relax and enjoy the facial-- and she did! Totally recommend! read more

Anna is the best! I started with Anna because I had terrible acne. Her facials have helped my skin soooo much! I go every two weeks for the buzz treatments and my skin is def more clear and feel softer and healthier. She also has such great products! I use amazing (well priced) face washes and lotions and have helped a ton. We also talked a lot about what make-up products were breaking me out. It has been a true skin education! I like to call her my skin coach :) Her facials are soooo relaxing. I often times fall asleep because I am so relaxed! I love the use of essential oils, relaxing music, and massage... oh and the heated table! Go see Anna!! read more

Highly recommend Opaline! I first started seeing Laura for Sugaring services after finding her on Groupon. She is GREAT! The services are awesome, she's talkative and really makes you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. I'm looking forward to seeing her for a Facial as I've heard those are fantastic as well. Only note: Make sure you read her email you get for the appointment confirmation. It includes instructions on how to enter the building and her extension so she can buzz you up. I had to dig through my emails to find the info once I got there so I want to save everyone else some time. read more

My boyfriend decided to treat me to a facial for my birthday, so after searching through yelp we found Opaline and decided to go there --and I am so glad that we did! Anna (the owner) was extremely nice and very knowledgeable about the process and her products. While the studio is a little small, it was very comfortable and had a wonderful ambiance. The facial, I got the Organic Bliss, was so relaxing and I left feeling refreshed and invigorated. My boyfriend even said I looked "vibrant!" Anna doesn't believe in pushing products so there isn't any pressure to buy anything, but if you do have any questions about them she is more than willing to go over them with you. Opaline even offers a ton of discounts (we were able to get $15 off for mentioning yelp) including $10 off for students or non-profit employees. I would definitely recommend Opaline to anyone interested in getting a facial, great work! read more

This is my third time seeing Kayla, she is great! Very welcoming and doesn't make you feel weird when she's working with your personal part for waxes. I hate the feeling but it's so much worth getting a Brazilian wax! I usually make my appointment for every 4-5 weeks and of course in advance in case shes booked. Place wise, very clean. read more

UPDATE: I still come here, and will go no where else! Laura is so sweet, I really feel at home there at this point. And she is very detailed and does the most perfect job ever! Can not recommend enough! read more

Just as journalists disclose affiliations in their articles, I'll let you in on the fact that I'm friends with Anna. However, I'm always a skeptic, so Anna really had a lot to live up to. Days before my wedding I received a facial from Anna. I had never had a facial before. Anna incorporated reiki, a Japanese healing form, and I felt entirely relaxed and rejuvenated. My skin looked great on my wedding day. My husband had a reiki treatment for his birthday. He's a boxing and weightlifting teacher, so he uses his body very hard. He felt immediate relief of pains and strains and various bodily aches he goes through that lasted several days. I'm giving 4 stars because Anna's been the only person to preform any of these treatments on me, so I have no other experiences to compare them to. Also, I'm still not entirely bought on all of the principles of eastern healing practices (just as I'm not entirely bought on the idea that Western medicine has it all figured out). However, Anna is great at what she does. I'd definitely book her for a reiki treatment if you're curious. Its as relaxing as a massage. read more

I came here for my first sugaring, and Kayla was awesome. She made me feel very comfortable with the whole process. Parking in the area was no problem on a Saturday morning, and the directions to get there were clear. The studio was very clean, and their outfits are cute. read more

Laura is absolutely amazing! Never has anyone done my wax so efficiently and as painless as she does. I wish I still lived in Oregon because nothing i have found in Seattle matches what she can do. read more

I am very difficult person, incredibly picky about my sensitive skin and over the years have had a multitude of facials from spas all around the country. That said, it is quite a compliment for me to give Opaline five stars and my glowing recommendation to anyone who wants to visit this little spa in NE Portland. The setting is cool and relaxing, and ever since I began patronizing here regularly, my skin has not looked this good since my early 20's. The product line that Anna has suggested that I try has become an integral part of my skin care regimen...I particularly enjoy the roll on bottle of exquisite Lavender cuvée and the River Organics Carrot Vanilla moisture cream. Opaline has absolutely redefined the a facial for me, and Anna's services as an esthetician have become invaluable to me. Highly recommended, positively the best skin care services I've ever had. read more

I am now a regular at Opaline Spa. I went for the first time over a year ago, I had found a Groupon online for Sugaring, so checked it out. Laura, is always professional, and lovely. I can't imagine going anywhere else. She makes her own sugaring products, the Bye Bye Bump spray, is incredible. read more

I've been going to Laura for sugaring for 2+ years and am consistently impressed with her service and skills. She makes the sugaring process as painless as possible and does a very thorough job. Laura is delightful and the atmosphere is relaxing. Sugaring is far less painful than waxing, the results are amazing, and it's totally worth the reasonable prices. I highly recommend Laura and look forward to being her client for a very long time! read more

I love this spot! I was referred here by my cousin who can't say enough good things about this place. This was my first place where I have ever tried sugaring and I'm a believer! Its so much better than normal waxing. I see Laura, who has been doing my waxing and she is amazing!!! She's very gentle, thorough and sweet. I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

My absolute favorite wax studio. Laura is hands down the best in the business. She makes her own wax and even beauty products too. She is kind, attentive, and skilled! Her new studio on the second floor is so cute inside. I found her via Groupon several years ago have haven't gone anywhere else since. Her prices are reasonable and her work is flawless! read more

This was my second time getting a sugar Brazilian. My first experience, at a posh spa in New York, was awful. It hurt so badly! But I wanted to give sugar a second chance, and when I saw Opaline had a special, I booked an appointment. I am SO glad that I did! Kayla is amazing. The least painful hair removal I have ever experienced, and she is such a rock star. I immediately felt at ease and it was over so quickly. Seriously, Kayla is the best. So happy that Opaline is in the neighborhood, and will be a regular here! Thank you Kayla!! read more

Love this place! Cute, clean, and very fair prices. I'm fact, one of the most inexpensive in Portland. Laura is very professional, gave me privacy when changing, as well as a "dignity" towel. I also loved that she was so thorough. Even though she was quick, she still took the time to tweeze any stragglers. She also uses organic products, that smell yummy! Lastly, this was my first time sugaring, been waxing for 12 years. Definitely going to make the switch. It's much better for the environment and my skin seemed to like it more. You will love this place, promise! read more

I had my first facial at Opaline yesterday and, I've got to say, I'm pretty sure this was one of my best facial experiences ever. I left with my skin glowing. Usually I leave facials looking pockmarked from extractions and I have been lead to believe that my skin will always look better in a few days after a facial. Well, I'm pretty happy that I left my facial looking as awesome and glorious as I did! Anna is very easy to talk to and gave me some good recommendations on products and how often to use ones that I already incorporate into my daily routine. I never felt like she was pushing me to buy anything. In fact, I'd buy whatever she is using because her skin is beautiful! I had a totally relaxing facial, which she ended with a peppermint scalp massage and reiki. I was in bliss. I was so in bliss that I forgot to look in the mirror on the way out, something I have come to be accustomed to because of the afore-mentioned "How spotty is my skin looking from extractions?" I made it all the way home before I remembered to look in the mirror and I looked fabulous! Even my boyfriend noticed and said I smelled nice, too. I can't wait until I am able to go back for another facial! read more

Laura has a gentle touch and puts you at ease. I went to her for my first ever Brazilian hair removal and had a very "sweet" experience with her sugaring treatment. She explains everything as she goes along and puts you at ease. I'm happy to become a regular client. read more

Such a great experience. Very nice environment and there is no awkwardness. I got the Brazilian Sugaring. Wasn't painless but it was a lot less so than regular wax and strips. I can't wait to go to my next appointment. I booked it as soon as we were done. There was no rushing, just great service! read more

Anna was great! I don't get many facials, but I wish I could... and from Opaline! I fell asleep on the table, which I would like to think says a lot about how relaxing it is, lol! When I can splurge again here, I will! read more

I found Laura a little over a year ago through groupon... And I never looked back! From the very first appointment she was very professional and made me feel so comfortable. Her cute little studio is super cozy and clean. There was good conversation from the very first time, and there was no awkward silences while she was sugaring. She is quick and efficient with her work (almost painless!) and She pays close attentions to the details. I am happy with all my hair removing needs every time I leave! Fast forward to now-- She is now not only my aesthetician, she is a great friend! I highly recommend seeing Laura, and I promise you... You will never go back to regular waxing! read more

The reviews don't lie. Laura and Kayla have been super professional, friendly and always make me feel comfortable. I was new to sugaring and I am so glad I found Opaline! I can't wait to try a facial. Thanks so much ladies! read more

Hands down best services! Amazing product very knowledgeable staff & super cute rooms!

This is my first Yelp review but I felt compelled to share what an amazing facial and massage I just had with Laura. My skin is glowing and the wonderful aromatherapy is still lingering. I will probably be sorry if I cant get an appointment because everyone finds out what a gem Opaline is, but sometimes it isn't right to withold the praise when someone is this good. So ahead and make an appointment. You deserve it! read more

Laura is wonderful!! You won't be disappointed. Always a delight to come to Opaline :) :)

I received a gift certificate through Yelp for my birthday for a facial with Laura at Opaline and I was so pleased! She started out by walking me through the process of what exactly she was going to do to my face (it was my second facial ever...so I'm kinda a newbie at this) and about the massage that was included. As she started she told me to relax and then that was it - she was in the zone. Not much chatting during the facial / massage - which is what I like...so I can relax, not focus on gossip, etc.! I definitely recommend this place. read more

I no longer live in the Portland area but this review is long overdue! I went to Laura for sugaring for at least year between 2015-2016 and she was the absolute best!!! I still haven't found a person as good as her since. Yes, getting a Brazilian still hurts BUT with her, it felt a lot less painful because having interesting conversations certainly helped distract you. Don't even think twice about booking with her. You won't regret it! Laura is also one of the sweetest people and you'll instantly love her. read more

Best of the Best. And I have had a lot of facials. Every thing, every step, every aspect of the services I have had here are top notch. Wouldn't change a thing. read more

After trying 5 locations throughout town for sugaring services, this is definitely my preferred spot. Laura was extremely nice from the beginning and is pleasant to chat with; she also is excellent at what she does. Her place is welcoming and comfortable and there's two-hour parking right outside the building. Plus, her prices are quite fair, so really, no need to look further, particularly if sticking to the west side is more convenient anyway. Love coming here and hope she experiences even greater success! read more

This was my first facial experience and it went OK. The facial itself was relaxing and she explained to me what was happening and what she was doing when I asked. Having said that, to me, the personality of the facialist came off a bit... distant and cold. Maybe she was having a bad day? I also didn't like the amount of product left on my face after the facial was completed. I felt like I had goop on my face and when I got home I immediately washed the layers off. I also had Reiki done which was healing- for some reason, its comforting to have someone send you good energy, didn't make my skin look any better, but it made me feel better. I probably won't go back for another facial, as I'd prefer a massage instead, but if this is your thing, I would recommend trying this place out with a yelp deal and judging for yourself. read more

Laura was awesome! Found Opaline on groupon and was worth every penny if not more! Clean and cute studio! Will definitely be going back.

Laura was wonderful, the whole experience was very pleasant. This is the way to go, much rather this than wax, she kept my mind off the process too. Very clean and welcoming little studio. I recommend Opaline for sugaring to anyone. I even booked my next appointment before I left. Even better, she as a really great price for maintenance!! Thanks Laura see you in a few weeks! read more

I am a summer visitor and was looking for a facialist in Portland. Bingo! Thanks to Yelp, I went to Opaline. Laura's warm greeting, and a warm and welcome "suite" where you can just let go and relax was appreciated. The facial was excellent and my husband never comments, but he loved the cream that she used on my arms. Oh, I think I forgot to mention that she gives a wonderful massage of the arms and hands. Loved it! I am going to buy a bottle of the body cream to take home. Made my "old" skin feel young and soft! All of her products are natural and organic. I look forward to returning to Opaline to have another facial! read more

My friend recommended me to try sugaring. I found myself at opaline spa because of groupon. Laura is great. She's super open and cheerful. We ended up laughing throughout our appointment. And for those who wants to try sugaring, it's great! My skin is usually red and irritated after waxing. But after sugaring, it wasn't red at all and it wasn't irritated. Definitely try! read more
