I came to Be Kekoa Salon with high expectations based on social media presence, reviews, and the salon's emphasis on experience. Unfortunately, my experience with Brandie Kekoa, the owner, was deeply disappointing and costly--both financially and emotionally. I booked a curly cut and trim ($185, not including tip) and followed every instruction provided by the salon. I arrived with my curls dry, natural, and unmanipulated. I clearly stated my goal: a conservative trim only, as I am actively growing my hair out after spending two years recovering from a much shorter cut. Brandie verbally acknowledged my goals and discussed a minimal plan, including only very light face framing in the front. At no point did she indicate that my hair required aggressive reshaping or corrective cutting. During the service, however, several red flags occurred:    *   No curl-by-curl cutting    *   No clear assessment or explanation of technique    *   No transparency about how much hair was being removed    *   No opportunity to see what had been cut    *   I was only shown the front of my hair at the end Styling products were applied without explanation, and the heavy application masked what had actually been done. Once I got home, washed out the product, and styled my hair myself, the truth became clear. The back of my hair had been over-cut, leaving uneven lengths, gaps, and shelf-like layers. The result severely limited my ability to style my hair at all. This was not a "shape preference" issue--it was a loss of usable hair. I was especially distressed because this appointment came after a medically challenging year. I was genuinely hoping for a positive, confidence-restoring experience. Instead, I was set back to square one in my hair-growth journey. There was no attempt at resolution, largely because the damage was not visible until I was home--and frankly, after this experience, I would not feel safe returning for a correction. Experience should come with communication, transparency, and accountability. When those elements are missing, the result is exactly what happened here. This is a long review but completely worth reading! I initially found Be Kekoa after booking a destination venue at a vineyard in Temecula, CA. I wanted to wear my natural curls for my bridal hair and have a natural hair/texture aesthetic for my bridal party. Several months ahead of the wedding I reached out to Be Kekoa- first via email then I followed up with a phone call. I recommend contacting the salon via phone with a follow up email to receive a quick response. I was connected with Kai who was available to do my hair for my 8/10/24 wedding. The phone consultation was incredibly pleasant and Kai was a true professional. She went out of her way to book a hair trial that coincided with our venue tasting so I didn't have to make an additional trip to Temecula. The salon is located in downtown Temecula- only 15 minutes from most of the vineyards so it was easy to travel to on the day of the trial and wedding. During my trial Kai discussed my hair inspiration and worked with my texture to achieve the desired look. She even gave me a much needed trim- taking care to discuss how much she recommended removing and respecting the length I was willing to cut. For my curly/coil textures you understand how important this is- I am no stranger to someone cutting off several inches when I only agreed to a "trim." Kai frequently checked in to make sure I was comfortable throughout the entire process and I was very happy with the end result. During the session she noted the products we used and discussed additional recommendations prevent frizz on the day of the wedding. The Be Kekoa product line (which they use in the salon) is terrific, curl safe, and is available on the website for easy shipping to stock up. By the end of the trial Kai discussed a proposed day of timeline so I could easily coordinate with my makeup artist. In fact, she even recommended a make up artist who worked in the area that specialized in skin of color (who I ended up booking and wrote a separate google review for). I was so happy with the result I even asked my bridal party if they wanted to book with Be Kekoa for the wedding. My MOH (seen in pictures with me) and 3 nieces all decided to book with Kai who was able to accommodate them. Because my nieces have lots of hair, both Brandi and Kai did their twist outs the day before the wedding. They handled working with 3 young girls (ages 3, 7, and 9) who never have been to a salon extremely well. My eldest niece struggles with her coily texture and Brandi made her feel more confident with her affirmation cards. By the end of the session she was smiling and you could feel the joy radiating off of her. The next day Kai came in at 7am sharp to work her magic on both my MOH and I. My hair came out exactly as we discussed and Kai finished early. With her extensive knowledge of different textures and curl patterns she also nailed my sister's hair as well, despite not having a prior trial. The pricing was established well ahead of time, was extremely transparent and reasonable for the services provided- less than $800 for all of us (this includes bridal hair with a wash/glaze/style/steam, MOH wash/style/steam, twist outs with wash/steam for 3 girls). In short I'd like to give a big thanks to Kai, Brandi and Be Kekoa. My hair was perfect and my nieces/MOH looked beautiful! I absolutely recommend Be Kekoa for your special events or if you're looking for a curly/texture hair salon. Brandie at Be Kekoa is just amazing! I went to the Sola Salon in Temecula where Be Kekoa is located to see another stylist. This stylist had me waiting for 1hr before she even got to me. When she finally did she didn't have the right supplies to do my hair and more clients showing up for their appointments *insert angry face*!! She then took me to Brandie at Be Kekoa who was quick to bring me in, consult with me, take time to look at the current state of my hair, and help me decide what style and a color to correct the damage was done prior. Salons these days are there to make whatever work even when it's not the best idea for the health of your hair (lesson learned).
