They never honor the appointment you make over the phone. Called yesterday for a 10am gel x appointment and I've been waiting 30 minutes. This was one of the worst manicure experiences I've ever had. Not only did the technician file my nailbed with a Dremel to the point that it cracked, but they also messed up the polish and didn't fix it. There were no fans to help dry the nails, which made the whole process even more frustrating. Throughout the manicure, I was repeatedly asked how I planned to pay and told that the tip needed to be in cash. It happened not once, but three separate times. At one point, I was even surrounded by multiple employees with their phones out, asking for a tip -- it was extremely uncomfortable. In fairness, my daughter did get a nice acrylic set and a really good pedicure. But for my spouse and me, this was by far the worst manicure experience we've ever had. read more

I had a really disappointing experience at B&J Nails and feel compelled to share. I came in for an ombré manicure. The person doing my nails was fine, but the owner stepped in to help and it went downhill from there. She got paint all over my fingertips, and when I asked them to clean it, they struggled--and there's still white polish stuck under my nails that I can't remove. My hands were sticky afterward, and it felt like no one cared. What made it worse was how the owner treated me. She got upset and questioned why I had a pillow under my hand--the same pillow they gave me to rest my elbow on. She said I had fluff on my hand from the pillow, and I told her to check the pillowcase, which was clean. I hadn't touched anything other than what they gave me. Also, she claimed she had just put on gloves "just to help me," but I had been sitting there the whole time (2 hours) watching her use those same stained, dirty gloves on other clients. Then she came over and touched my fingers with them. The gloves were sticky and full of polish residue, and it got all over my hands. It was unsanitary and careless. To top it off, after paying $95, the owner didn't even say thank you or acknowledge me as I left. The whole experience felt dismissive and uncomfortable. Definitely not what I expected for the price, and I won't be going back. Very rude customer service. After 3 hrs it's not coming off. read more

Worst experience. From the beginning it was a horrible experience. The chair I was in was broken and it kept making loud noise. The lady who did my nails made the whole experience uncomfortable. My toes hurt after getting my nails done here, three of my nails ripped after. I wanted a light brown polish on my toe so I wanted two coats, the lady doing my nails argued with me about doing three coats, why you ask I have no clue. Zhe (April) is an amazing nail tech! She does a fantastic job, is kind, and is so talented. However, this place constantly overbooks her and I always have to wait over 30 minutes to an hour for my scheduled appointment. It's ridiculous!! I'm so happy with B&J Nails! It has everything I want in a nail salon. Prices are great. It's walkable from my house. They do SUCH a good job. Now B&J isn't for everyone. If you want a relaxing, spa-like environment, you won't get that here. It's incredibly busy, more bare bones and usually bustling with talking and activity. But I swear, they do better than I've ever had before. My Manis and Pedis are always perfectly done. They clean things up well and paint to perfection. Better than that, the longevity on their work is insane. Check out my photo of my manicure FIVE WEEKS after getting it done. It's super grown out but their work? Still perfect with not even a chip, knick, crack or peel to speak of. Five weeks! That is just insane in the nail world. As of 12.24.2021, a Gel-X Manicure is $50 and it costs just $17 more for a pedicure. I always just so basic with my colors (no designs) but adding anything special would add to the price. I have added 10 minutes of massage to my feet once and 10 minutes to my shoulders another time, running me $10. They usually will get your nails going while they do your toes. Again, not the luxury type of service you might want but it makes the trip to the salon so much quicker. I used to spend 2.5 hours at my old salon and I usually spend 1.5 here. Sooooo, there is no set way to become Elite...But to be eligible, just make sure you're consistently (that's key) writing detailed, useful and fun-to-read reviews, posting clear and well-lit photos, and generally being a positive role model by recommending your favorite places!!! Ok, they're not the best communicators and I'm sure not all nail techs are created equal, but I loved my gelx set with April! She was so detail oriented. You have to tell them exactly what you want. Went to the shop for a many and pedi and the lady accidentally did regular nail polish and lied and said it was gel. But this is a week in and they're all messed up. Don't pay $70 for gel. This business went downhill after they moved locations. The girl doing my hands told the pedi lady that she had used regular instead of gel. My pedi lady applied one layer of gel on top and when I asked if they were going to be okay she said "yes, If they were regular nail polish they wouldn't have dried." They will lie to you. read more

Honestly so annoyed of this place. Definitely not going back. After my last experience with this place (long story short, I waited 3 hours to have fugly nails), I hit up YoungB on Instagram. I explained my situation and asked if I can book for a later date to secure my appointment with her (she's canceled on me last minute before.. that time, she said she "accidentally double booked with another one of her 'own' clients" so I walked into the shop at the same time I had my original appointment and she was working on some influencer). I asked if she had a certain date available (3 weeks out!) and all she said was "I don't. Sorry"... TLDR, if you're not an "influencer", she's probably just gonna cancel on you or just be rude so don't even waste your time. read more

After being loyal and understanding for 2 years this salon has lost my business. after the last few appts with the owner. Rarely do I writes reviews and usually I am there to just boost a place. The owner B is all over the place and that is who I go to. the only time you will get a semi decent appt is if your appt is when the salon opens, otherwise, She is distracted makes you wait for over 45 minutes for your appt and not consistent with her work. If something goes wrong she blames you. The last few times my nails lasted all of 24hrs. which is gel X manicure. first the blamed the cleaning lady for her light and now she blames me. After coming back to "fix" the nail she just added a top coat they chipped again in less than 12 hrs and my cuticles are thrashed and raw. I have been frustrated with finding a good nail place that gives effort into the small details, cleanliness, expertise, and great service. This place meets everything I'd like in my nail salon. I was accepted for a last-minute appointment. The place is clean and I came around 2 pm on a weekday. Parking in the back is paid and theres some street parking. Thu helped me out. They use the SAME nail file on every customer. I got my nails done here a few days ago and noticed that the nail file my manicurist used on my nails looked so worn out and old. When I asked her about it, she admitted she uses the same nail file on each on of her customers. This is so unsanitary. I think that every customer should be aware of that. I'm sure that they do the same thing with the tools they use for pedicures. The rolls she used on me were not sanitized and didn't come from a blue bag. With that being said, if you are looking for a cheap nail services- this is the place for you. Where else in LA can you pay only $35 for dip powder, including the removal of the old dip powder? And only $28 for gel manicure. So cheap! I got dip powder nails and happy with the result. They have tons of color options. To be honest I'll probably be back here just because the price is so affordable. Any other nail salon in Santa Monica will charge $45-$50 for dip powder or gel manicure. I use to go to this place back in the day and tried again and the quality has really gone down hill. Will NEVER go back again. I agree with the other reviews when I would get either Tea or her sister but they're so busy now it's hard to get them. And most of the other workers there are subpar. The most recent lady who did my manicure there should be fired. They make you wait for about 30 mins bc you can't make appts anymore. The lady doing my manicure kept pressuring me to get gel done on my nails after I said 3x I wanted reg polish but I could tell she wanted to wrap up and get out of there so I did gel to be kind to her. Then they can't even find the gel color that's on the display they give you to look at. I can try to look past some of that if she actually did a decent job on my nails but they look horrific. I usually go to Simon - he'd been working at another salon and I saw he was working here now. With mandates lifting I decided to get back to doing my nails. Set is perfect I showed him the design picked the length etc and he checked in throughout the process since I'd changed the colors from the original photo. They look great I'm almost 4 weeks in with them and have an appointment scheduled for t next week, the gel X has stayed on with minor chipping since I'm super rough with my nails. I was checked in pretty promptly, getting an appointment was easy if you book about a week out and it sounds like depending on the artist. Terrible service. The woman that did my pedicure cut my foot and when I told her, she just said "oh" and poured alcohol on it and took out a tube of antibiotic cream to place on my foot. They pay so much attention to detail and can genuinely do any design. Would you believe this 1 star comes from someone who's been an on again off again customer of this place. I hate writing any negative comments as much as the next person, but I have given B&J way too many chances. If you scroll down, there will be a review from my best friend Kaia telling everyone about her experience with this place, I actually introduced her to it and a couple more people. I like a mani-pedi and I get one every week when I'm not doing sets or gel. The last 4 encounters have been just horrible, and not just the last four, many before that I let go off and brush off because they are busy most of the time, I even started coming mondays because it's their slow day, paying cash and tipping well above the ledger. Guys,, I've been coming here since 2017. The people here are not equal, I just had my nails done and it looks like my 7 years old niece painted them, they seat you down, force you to pay cash and before they finish the service including the tip. I'm supposed to tip based on service not because I have to or get forced to do it when I'm a 4+ year customer. Now let's get to the bottom of it. Except for Bao and her sister in law who is the pedicure fairy, everyone here sucks especially the male manager who is rudely inattentive to customers need and is just liking everyone out of their money. They are disorganized, non-communicative, and all they care about is seating people in chair just for the prospect of taking their money. It's so upsetting and I hate to be rude I ended crying while the lady kept giving this very mediocre manicure. Two months ago I had a full set with gel done and I had to show up 3 times in the week after it to fix broken nails, flying nails, hurting nails, I appreciate Bao for fixing it, but at some point, it just doesn't matter if the work is done badly on and on and on. I gave this place more chances than any other one and was a very supportive customer during the pandemic, but B & J is not even a "decent" place for me to consider any future services anymore. I sat at my spot and wrote this review while inside of it so people understand the level of frustration this place has given me today. No matter the apologies or the gift certificate that I turned down, just like my friend did a month ago, we are willing to pay for a service, just consider the quality of the service you expect me to pay for and double that, maybe B & J can become decent at that moment. The shape of her nails are PERFECT along with her sister's. I have also gone to her sister Tea many times and she is just as amazing as Young B. They are both amazing nail techs and create art on your nails that you will simply be obsessed with! I've never gotten so many compliments since I started going to the both of them. I've been going to be & j for years even back when they were at their old location. I would say it is by far the best and most affordable place to get gel-x. Jessica is specifically my girl she is always excited to see me and always does an incredible job. She does a great job shaping and working with my clubbed thumbs. They changed locations. I went there because I had no option. 9:15am on a Friday and there were already 6 people getting their nails done. I just had a very much needed pedicure and decided to get Gel-X medium coffins done. I must say "love it"! Jenny did such an amazing job applying and accommodating the style of my choice from a photo I provided. Lilith did an incredible job on my feet too and I hadn't had a pedicure since before the initial quarantine. I usually don't like acrylic, powder, dip...etc but my young daughter told me about Gel-X looking more natural and healthier for your nails. I'll definitely try this again! So I had a really good experience there coming out of this quarantine with them. The maintenance the necessary guidelines. Only minus was areas to wait. read more
