I really don't want to leave this review. I want and need BC Computer to thrive. Overall, I have had a good experience with Tom's work - 4 or 5 for him and the history of the shop (though it could be cleaner). I purchased a Dell from them long ago, I've stopped by in an emergency for cables or what not. Computers are fickle, temperamental things that are COOOM-plex. So, to him, thank you for your service and your shop in lil Boulder Creek! It's this last staff person, Friday afternoon, 12/8/23, who does not seem to have your back, that I am reviewing. She said Tom no longer works on site. That is possible. She said, "opening the back voids your warranty." Of course it does not - HP recommends a fix that requires opening the back. All the on line literature states over and over through out the brands, if you don't mess with the innards or break something, your warranty is intact. I needed a back up (doh!) of my hard drive before sending it to HP - They keep a few external hard drives on hand, but unfortunately, they are Disk Hard Drives, not Solid State HDs Ah, I need to use that money for a solid state drive (I have animals - we are clumsy) - to which she replied, "they don't make them." Huh? - they are all over the internet! and they are cheap! Too bad I needed one now. I then chattered on in a friendly manner a moment about why I was sending my laptop to HP - it's probably a software conflict or something (I should have said software 'related', but not sure it would have mattered...) to which she argued, software has nothing to do with a screen problem. Huh?... again, discussions, fixes, etc., all over the internet. None had fixed my problem, but they are there and it's a thing! I don't want someone like that touching my computer, even to hand it off to the owner. Her job is to help, not create obstacles or corner people. How do I know she will handle my computer with care? She certainly didn't handle me with care. And I dare say, she is not handling your business with care. *scrunched sad face* Happy to re-review when resolved. read more

The same parts broke again within a month. I ended up just selling it and getting a new computer. The computer wasn't new by any means, but I wish I'd been informed if it was actually worth fixing or not before shelling out so much money. It obviously couldn't be saved read more

We love these guys. No need to ever buy a brand new computer again. I wish I never bought my new HP but went here instead. My experience with Dell's in the workplace were that they never lasted but the reconditioned one we got from here was a real workhorse and was used for almost 10 years. We loved it and were just going to do a battery replacement and "tune-up" but for the cost we opted to get files transferred to a refurbished Lenovo for just a bit more. What a community asset this little local biz is and super nice/pleasant people to do business with. read more

First off, in defense of your company in reference to the review of 1/15/2014 - There is nothing wrong with a business moving or even changing names (That's the company's business). Now, I recently brought my computer to be worked on by Tom who replaced the hard drive and upgraded from XP to windows 7. They are customer friendly, reasonably priced and would recommend them. I have never left a review for any business ever in my life, but after coming to BC computer repair for many years and always being so happy with the results I really decided that they should get a good review from me. I just picked up my computer that they repaired and it literally looks brand new. They went above and beyond my expectations. I needed my battery replaced because I spilled chai on it. Not only did they save me money by fixing it and replacing the battery, they also clean the entire inside of the computer out too. I just opened it for the first time from bringing it home and they cleaned the screen, all the keys and buttons, and my computer literally looks brand new. It's running much better too. If you are careless and spill liquid on your computer tower, it hits the fan and your monitor loses signal... don't worry. Tom was able to restore full function very quickly and affordable. I'm back in business at full strength! The town is so fortunate that BC Computer Repair set up shop here. They also offer a very thorough cleaning service for the inside of the computers removing the built up dust and animal hair. Lastly, the shop also sells high quality/refurbished desktops, laptops, and even the mandatory Chromebook for school aged kids. Beware with this shop, i have a Dell desktop got blackscreen they diagnostic and talk to me replace the mortherboard l m ok Trust them . then let there for a week to fixed . after that when l come to pickup my desktop , they say can not fix and turn it back to me . Bought a refurbished HP year old laptop. Such a deal. Took old laptop as trade-in. Note new location.

My fiance and I brought our computers thinking it was a windows 10 problem then learned it was both of our hard drives haf crashed! The owners were very nice and willing to work with us on payments and got both of your computers back and working like new in just a few days. Unfortunately his hard drive information wasn't able to be transferred but luckily he wasn't too worried about that. Thankfully mine was because I had lots of pictures and videos of my mother who passed away recently. I would definitely recommend them, and will for sure be taking my business back to them for any future needs. read more

I was impressed that their cost is reasonable. Their turnaround is OK. The part that they installed, I was charged double the cost of the part on Amazon, but considering the work and testing that he did, I am not going to complain. The business matches the community it is supporting. If it was located in the Silicon Valley, I would of rated it lower, but for a local computer repair shop I must say that they meet the needs of the mountain community. I was in a hurry, so I did not troubleshoot the issue myself. If you live in the San Lorenzo valley, I would recommend this business. read more

My 8 year-ish old iMac was not behaving. They told me to bring it in for a free diagnostic. They found nothing, and charged me nothing. And it was better for a few days, and then it tanked. Completely. Took it back, they found it was the hard drive, put in a new one, and I'm back in business for less than $200. I dropped it off on Friday, and picked it up on Monday morning. They're nice, polite, and I will take any computer back to them, and recommend them to friends and family. read more

So just a couple weeks ago my laptop fell off of a small table and then the table smashed on top of it to delivery the final blow. In my arrogant attempt to repair the dead computer myself I updated to the dreaded El Capitan and wiped my hard drive clean. When I went to restore my files from my 10 year backups on Time Machine they were completely gone. Nothing but my last backup. So I used it anyway and then discovered that ALL of my photos and videos were gone (and I don't mean unfindable in Photos because the app needed to link to the old iPhotos Library) I mean GONE. Not only were they gone but I had erased my internal drive about 7 times and installed and reinstalled El Capitan trying to get the install to work. Then I loaded 758GB of a backup onto the internal 1TB drive. With legs shaking and heart thumping I took the disaster along with my backup drive to Tom at BC Computer Repair. I was in total despair. 5 years of pics and video of my two kids from birth til now, gone. I handed it over to Tom and I don't think he realized how bad the situation was. After the first week the news was bad.. They were gone. I had also called the Seagate Data Recovery group to ask them what I could do about lost files that were not only deleted 7 times, but also written over... They said even if they cracked open the drive the files would most likely be corrupted and unusable and for me to save my money and walk away... Well Super Tom never gave in and made it his personal mission to save my family history from the abyss. I left them with him for another week or so and then we discovered the files! But when we went to open them they were all corrupted. With my heart in my feet I walked out of the shop leaving it behind for another crack. A week later on my birthday Tom gave me another call. I went down to the shop and Tom showed me that he had recovered ALL of the lost files and opened them up. The pictures and videos were saved! I have no idea how the heck the magician did it. Don't judge a book by its cover. This little mountain shop knows how to do what Seagate doesn't. Best of luck with these awesome guys! read more

These people keep changing their name and location. I took my sons lap top to them when they were operating under the name Coastal Computer Repair in downtown Boulder Creek years ago and he went to pick it up 3 weeks later and they had sold it on EBay, because he did not pick it up within the 2 week time frame. The folks at Coastal Computer Repair are fabulous. Tom is great at diagnosing problems and I've never felt over charged or under served. I've also bought two used lap tops that are working just like brand new machines. When I move away from Boulder Creek, I would still drive back to have Tom look at my PC's. He also knows Mac's and just helped my son with an external disk drive for the Mac problem that is going to get him through his semester at UCSC successfully. What a relief! read more

So great to have someone right here in BC, like Tom, to run to when I have a computer problem. Tom built a computer designated for my home music studio. Never had a problem. If I had he's right in town and I know he'd deal with it in a timely manner. He'll even make house calls. To top it off his prices are reasonable. The other option? I took my Dell Inspiron 11 3000 here for repair. It was slow, had a broken hinge,(a 2 in 1 laptop) and had a broken b key. They said during repair, the screen cracked. They offered to buy us a brand new laptop or replace LCD screen and keyboard. We chose the replacement, and found that it had some scratches on front and back. This was clearly a used or refurbished laptop of eBay or something. read more

If you have a Mac I suggest you take it to an Apple store whether or not it's still under Apple Care. I dropped my Mac laptop off on a Tuesday because the trackpad wasn't working right. On Thursday Vicky called and said it needed a new battery, which would be in by the next Wednesday ($80). She said the technician said battery swelling was the problem. Battery didn't come in and I needed the computer for the weekend so I picked it up and took it to Apple Los Gatos. The Genius Bar tech usb-ported it into a diagnostic device that said, guess what, the battery was working at 100%. He then analyzed the trackpad and found a pressure problem with it. He said the trackpad was probably fine and explained that there was a screw under it that probably needed adjusting. He did it. Trackpad has worked fine for two weeks. If the bozo tech at BC Computer had replaced the battery it wouldn't have fixed my problem. By the way, "battery swelling" is suggested on the internet as a possibility for trackpad malfunction. Apparently he'd read the same websites I did, but obviously he did NO diagnostics to find the real problem. I'm sure he then would have suggested replacing the trackpad, another three week wait, and who knows how much money, and the problem would have been fixed but it DIDN'T NEED a new trackpad. Apple diagnosed and fixed it in twenty minutes. FOR FREE!! read more
