We bought a 20 year old home that needed a back patio makeover. I am a BBQ guy, and there are plenty of options on line and in the Valley. After doing my homework I went into the store where I met Tony. First of all, he is a great listener, and after only a few minutes had completely understood my situation and objectives. He helped me sort zero in on the right grill, side burner, under cabinets, etc., offering tips as we went for me to like what I saw or keep moving. Bottom line is that he then discounted everything. No way could I ever get that service online nor would I expect to duplicate that price, free shipping on the exact day (a few weeks out in the future) when I wanted it. But here's the icing on the cake: one of the Blaze stainless steel cabinets arrived with door/drawer handles missing. This was the one in a million sealed box that somehow missed parts at the factory. I called BBQ Island/Tony to explain. I assured them that the box was still in my possession and had been searched many times, and they sent via Fed Ex replacement parts - no charge for parts or shipping - to me. Wow. Highly recommend this place. My wife and I many BBQ grill stores, but found that this north Scottsdale store had the best variety of grills, griddles, smokers, and accessories. The staff is very knowledgable, patient and kind. They helped us select the right equipment for us. I had an issue from the manufacturer and it was solved in a matter of days. They have a great selection from gas to electric pellet to charcoal. We found out some parts for the griddle were purchased from Home Depot. We had to pay a outside company to install the equipment and a different company to inspect that install. The bbq grill top is uneven and the cover is irregular and does not fit. We called to ask them to fix all this, crickets. When you pay $17,000 for BBQ equipment you'd think they could get these things right or at bare minimum fix the issue. read more

Smoking Meats is a favorite past time for me and I've had my share of smokers. Side box, Electric, Charcoal, you name it. But not a Pellet Grill / Smoker yet. Well I could not resist and had to get one for my Fourth of July Party on the patio. This location has got to be one of the better BBQ stores in the valley. The selection of product that they have on the floor and the excellent service is literally amazing. It feels like Christmas time all year long when you enter this place. Nice! Picked up a Green Mountain Daniel Boone Grill /Smoker. Had to upgrade to the WIFI version and can actually operate this bad boy right from the couch. It does not get much easier than this and the food came out with the quality of a top notch BBQ joint. Just fill up the hopper with the Hardwood Pellets of you choice and SET IT and FORGET IT. The phone app will beep you when your temperatures are met or if the pellet hopper starts to get low. It even tells you the inside temperature of your meat. Smoked some Pork Spare Ribs for my first test drive and used the 3-2-1 method @ 235 degrees (Google it) with some Hickory, Sugar Maple and Cherry blended pellets. We were so impressed with how easy they were to cook. The Smoker did a fine job at keeping the selected temperature within a couple of degrees and left a beautiful smoke ring and flavor profile. Did I mention the free 20# bag of pellets that they will give you each month for making a qualified purchase? So many different delicious flavors to check out. I visited BBQ Island (on Northsight in Scottsdale) and I was impressed with their showroom (lots of products to review) and staff (friendly). The staff was also knowledgeable and the grill model I wanted was in stock. The side burner was not. They quoted a price and warranty. Price $1,629.00 for AEEP-26NG that is a 26" Artisan American Eagle Series. And it is made in America -- in California! The warranty was good: Life time for burners, 10 years for Stainless Steel and 1 year parts and service. I asked to review the warranty and they had a laminated card and nothing else. I removed my old built-in grill, measured the cutouts. I went back to BBQ Island and met with a different person. They showed how easy the installation would be if I wanted to do it myself. The person also told me they had three side burners in stock. They had just arrived. So why not give BBQ Island 5-stars? I called during my break (11:00) on a Wednesday and said I wanted just the grill and would be by after work to pick it up. That's when I learned "in stock" met I could not pick it up until Friday. That was a surprise. In stock means it is in stock in their warehouse. They called at 1:30 PM on Friday to tell me it arrived. So I go, pay for it and have it loaded. Here I learn the terms and conditions (as printed on the Sales Order) and I quote "All returns MUST HAVE SALES RECEIPT. If you are unsatisfied with your purchase , you may return the unused item(s) in the original unopened packing within 15 days of the purchase for a refund. You will be credited the purchase price, less a 25% restocking fee and the applicable shipping charges" There is another surprise. I don't like surprises. The unit is in a cardboard box and if you open it you can't return it. At least that is how I read the terms and conditions. And a 25% restocking fee... $407.25 in this case (hefty restocking fees seems to be an industry practice). The last line of the terms and conditions is and I quote "Warranties are subject to factory policies and limitations. Please check your manufacturer's warranty." So I did, after opening the box... 15 years -- Stainless Steel Burners 10 years -- All Stainless Steel Parts 3 years -- Ceramic Briquette Trays (Briquettes excluded) 1 year -- Complete warranty -- All parts and labor (Batteries when applicable are excluded). So they were wrong about the warranty. The burners are not covered for their life time -- just for 15 years. Another surprise. Still I only knocked them down a point for the surprises. I checked out two BBQ Island competitors and visited Home Depot, Ace Hardware and Amazon. The staff at BBQ Island was the best I spoke to about purchasing a new grill. And I like that the grill is made in the USA. It is installed and looks beautiful. read more

I don't really do reviews but I went to this store to look at egg smokers and I was more than impressed. Josh introduced himself and showed me the smokers with no pressure to buy at all. It was very unusual to me because the other stores in the area I went to seemed to hound me as I walked through, only suggesting the high priced ones without even checking what I needed. I explained how I wasn't satisfied with my current seasoning mix and Josh showed me their wall of spices. He didn't just push one, he gave me lots of options and invited me to a free cooking class that I later attended. The class showed me how to spice and different options for spices and rubs. He showed how to set temperature, different options for different smokers/grills, and how long to let it rest. I even got a taste of the meat he had finishing up in a smoker! Free sample! It was amazing. I didn't know how bad I was doing until I saw how it was done right. My family loves the new spices and rubs i've been using. Went in to this store for first time looking for lump charcoal. Apparently they don't sell El Diablo and were sending me to Albertsons across street. A very uppity BBQ store. My bad for not going in there more educated, because they won't help you, they make you feel dumb. Bought there charcoal, because to hot to make another stop. The staff that works here is super helpful. I had recently received a smoker as a gift (from another retail outlet) but dropped by BBQ Island to pick up some accessories and wood chunks to get started with my new hobby. Josh happened to be working that day and spent a lot of time giving me all sorts of solid advice. He's a real pro that actually does a lot of competitive BBQ'ing and has helped me avoid a lot of mistakes. Plus, I've e-mailed him several times, including pictures of some of my briskets, and he's taken his time (on his own personal time, no less!) to respond and give me feedback and advice on how to make improvements. This is an interesting story. Bought pretty high end grill from a BBQ Island COMPETITOR. I must say, I had some trepidation, but the sales person was solid, so I bought. Though there are some warranty issues with these types of stores, they all should stand by the product they sell, regardless. One of my items (a Fridge), conked out in about a year or less. Coincidentally around the warranty time, but there had been issues all along. Aside from a phone number for the manufacturer, the Retail Store was not much help, nor did they really have an interest in caring. I gave up. (on a $1,000 piece of equipment that never worked right). On a whim, and after almost 3 years of aggravation, and because I still felt gypped, I stopped into BBQ Island (Which was NOT opened yet when I made the purchase.) Spoke to Steve A, who IMMEDIATELY took an interest in my issue, especially since they sell the same item, even though I did not buy from him. He stuck with me through a process of him finding the rep for the company again, pushing the issue with them, and taking the time with a potential customer (me), again, EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT BUY FROM HIM. Fortunately, he was able to push the right buttons and the manufacturer will now replace my fridge. Now that would not have happened without Steve taking a vested interest in the situation, standing behind a product he does sell, convincing the manufacturer to do the same, and helping out a DEFINITE customer from this point forward. great showroom and good selection of bbq equipment, but don't expect any service after the purchase. purchased a le griddle & power burner from bbq island. had a problem with the griddle immediately. I called bbq island, but got no help from them. finally called bbq doctor and they discovered that le griddle had not completely drilled out the gas orifice in the left burner and it wasn't getting any gas. they fixed the problem and the burner worked fine. then just a few weeks ago the other burner would light, but would go out after 5-6 min of operation. called bbq island and got the same response .... contact le griddle. I got no response so bbq doctor made another visit today and discovered the ignitor was loose and was closing the burner gas valve. another problem that was a result of poor workmanship by le griddle. my recommendation is NOT buy a le griddle griddle and don't expect any after sales service from bbq island. read more
