We came by a few weeks ago during the Monrovia Day Festival. Upon arrival we were informed they were sold out of certain meats due to being unexpectedly busy. We appreciated the notice up front and decided to stay. Service was friendly. Beer selection is small. Menu was a bit confusing and when my boyfriend asked the waitress questions about the combo plates, it got even more confusing. I attribute this to being a new restaurant and a learning curve with staff. Not a big deal to me but it was frustrating for him. Food was good and portions were plentiful. I wasn't a fan of the salad as my side dish (wilted bagged spring mix). There's a stage towards the back and we heard a great blues band (BLUE HWY)! We were there around 7pm and while the band was great, the sound was too loud for us to have even the slightest conversation. Maybe later in the night after dinner service would be a better option for that sound level. I'll try it again in a few months. I'm optimistic & am happy to have a local spot for live music. read more

This is my second visit to Bbq Blues. My first visit a few months ago did not go as I wished. On this visit I was pleasantly impressed! My Ribs wow huge and wonderful, the service was outstanding . First time coming here since it was 38 Deg. Nice atmosphere, superb customer service. Great food. Need I say more ? Nice to have a BBQ place option in Old Town Monrovia. We had the Pulled Pork Sandwich and the BBQ Combo (brisket and Tri Tip) . The pulled pork is served on ciabatta bread. I had it with the side of potato salad. Both were excellent. The pulled pork was full of flavor. Had just enough barbecue sauce on it. If you want more barbecue sauce you can add it from the container on the table. The ciabatta bread had a nice crunch. The barbecue brisket and tri-tip were tender and also full of flavor. Everything was cooked just right. I highly recommend trying BBQ Blues, my process would be to try everything on the menu once.... Came here for the 1st time. Wife and myself are disappointed. Place looks welcoming. For it to lonely on a Saturday,should have been a red flag. I wish the server would have warned us that the wings were extremely salty because when i told her she looked at me like " what do u want me to do ". Wing were cold. The salad had more heat than the wings. The only thing that was hot was the Chilli cheese fries. Wings seemed not to be cooked properly. This is not worth spending time or money here. The food was pretty bad. Took forever to get our food which arrived cold. Ordered a Mix combo with Brisket, Beef ribs, corn bread and Texas corn. Also, ordered a sausage which never arrived. The brisket was room temp at best and devoid of any flavor, moisture or smoke ring. One of the two ribs was ok flavor wise the other was fatty and flavorless, both were cold. The Texas corn was ok but not much more than canned corn. No idea how the corn bread was because we were served bbq beans instead which were room temp and nothing more than canned beans most likely. The bbq sauce left a lot to be desired couldn't even make up for the lack of flavor on the brisket by adding bbq sauce as one normally could. Beers were decently priced. read more

I use to go to this location when it was 38* and did not know they opened a BBQ restaurant in its place. I stopped in for lunch during the week and it was empty. I had to ask if they were open as NO ONE was inside. (Should have been clue #1). I remembered that 38* previously had bbq on their menu but surely, a new owner/restaurant/menu would have different bbq, right? Wrong. Ordered the brisket platter and it came out looking very sad and dry. Like Juan in the kitchen put the leftovers from last week in the microwave and served it up. Had to smother it in the house bbq sauce to get any flavor, which I know is a huge no-no at any bbq restaurant but there was no way I was going to finish the plain, dry brisket. Beans were good but I bet they are from a can and the texas toast was not bad. Hopefully this place can get it together for some decent bbq. Until then I am not returning until I see better reviews of the food. read more

I had high hopes for this new restaurant but nothing but the blues can be said. First issue was how long it took for the host/server to acknowledge us. At least 7 mins. The band's blues music was hopp'n good but so loud I couldn't hear a thing but them. They need to consider sound absorption on the brick walls or something. They were out of almost every beer I asked for. They ran out of certain meats and had just a few options. Gave me a dirty plate to share my food on and had to request a clean one. Once the platter came out I knew this was gonna be disappointing. Cold, bland, dry meat. No sauce could fix it. Btw..... Mac and cheese was not cheesy nor tasted like anything I could put my finger on. The only thing that saved the plate was the bbq baked beans probably from a can. I will not be back. Should not open a bbq joint if you don't know what bbq actually is. Music was 10/10 but not a reason to come back. read more

We were really anxious to try this place since opening. We went for lunch and we really wanted to try the brisket, but they were out of it. Since they were out of the brisket, I ordered a turkey sandwich (which came as a wrap) and my husband ordered the tri-tip sandwich (which also came as a wrap.) They used diced up meat (which seemed odd for a bbq place) and it would have been okay but it was generally flavorless. I ended up throwing mine away, and my husband ate only half of his, and threw the other half away. The fries were also cold. I ordered a cranberry juice/vodka and it was so sweet that even the bartender agreed it tasted like Hawaiian Punch. The waitress & servers were really nice, but there was a long wait for the food. We may give it another try sometime, just not real soon. read more

This is a pretty chill place, with a bar and lots of TVs. The service was excellent. Our waitress was very nice and made us felt very comfortable. We ordered the full rack of pork ribs, chicken wings, garlic bread, corn, coleslaw, fries, and sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were a little burnt, the garlic toast was lacking garlic butter, and most of the side portions were on the smaller side. The Pork ribs was a little under cooked, because it was pretty chewy, they didn't fall off the bone tender. It was still pretty good though. The spicy BBQ was delicious but it could have been hotter. Overall the food was delicious and affordable. It did not burn a hole in your pocket. Will definitely come back again, but hoping the ribs are more tender the second time around. read more

We had a large party on Friday night. We get directed to our table and nobody comes for 10-15 minutes. Just long enough for everyone to decide what we wanted. The server finally comes out to say she is out of meat. ALL THE MEAT. Which I honestly don't have a problem with. The 1 star is solely for being ignored for 10-15 minutes with zero notice that the kitchen was essentially closed. The person seating us could have mentioned, our waitress could have mentioned, even a sign at the front door saying all meats 86d would have prevented this 1 star review. Its a new restaurant so hopefully they will get it together and I can update with a better review. We got Rudy's Mexican instead and it was great. read more

We got a platter with Pulled Pork, Chicken, Ribs, Brisket, and Tri-Tip. For the sides, we tried the Mac' n Cheese, Baked Beans, and Potato Salad. All were very good. Went early on a Thursday (5:30ish). Place was empty. Decore was a little aged (stools already ripped) and interior not updated from the previous restaurant. Expectations were low. Server was friendly and prompt. Food came out faster than expected. I had the beef rib with a salad and sweet potato fries. Beef rib was huge brisket on a bone. S+ would recommend 1000x. sweet potato fries were a miss for me. salad was pedestrian but fine as a side. Wifey got the chicken and it looked great. tegular fries are a win. the kid ate the mac and cheese and devoured (shes picky). Prices were too resonable and should be higher for the quality. Beer selection was good. Would recommend as a good family spot. Cant wait to go on a band night! read more

New spot in old towne Monrovia - Lots of TV's, draft beer, and BBQ.. BBQ Brisket was good, Spicy Honey corn bread is pretty awesome. Service is awesome due to great staff, but it is new- so staff getting a feel for what to recommend on the menu. Steve the owner is a smart businessman, so they will figure it out. Family had already ordered and 20min later they come out to tell us their is NO MEAT STOCKED. Server stated they had been out of meat since the morning sir its 7pm why not tell us before. Not sure what leftover meat they gave my family but it wasnt even meat. All fat and uncooked looking grease. They flipped the fat side upside down so my family wouldnt notice. Tasted awful. Ordered a salad. OLD LETTUCE was served. Didnt even have ceaser dressing stocked. Served COLD MAC&CHEESE, they took it in just to microwave the same COLD MAC&CHEESE. Meanwhile another was served fresh looking mac. Ordered buffalo wings but bbq wings came out instead? Wouldn't be upset if the bbq flavor was good but that was a bbq flavor I never wanna taste again. Ordered SIDES that were NEVER RECEIVED. 2 SIDES that were received were A DAY OLD. Asked for drinks and 15min later we had to remind them. Also asked for BEER that was NEVER RECEIVED. Mind u it was not busy 7 tables were full. Straws were already opened and put into our drinks. Id much rather have me opening my own straw that im going to put in my mouth. We came in here on a Friday night after reading reviews. We came in with an open mind. We sat down, ordered drinks, and got our first round. Drinks were amazing! Although our waitress always had a smile and friendly, the service was slow. We had to ask her for drinks as opposed to her coming to us. Kinda understandable as I assume they are short staffed. Then the food came out. The food was lackluster. We shared a platter and the ribs were dry, chicken looked boiled (didn't try it), but the brisket and tri tip were ok. I am spoiled by my husband who bbqs for me so my standards are high. The mac n cheese wasn't my fave but my son gobbled up 2 plates of it so that's a win in our book. THE VIBES WERE IMMACULATE THO. The live band played great tunes, my son danced and was loving it. All in all, if you're looking for good drinks on a Friday with entertainment, this is the place. The meat fell off the rib bone, mac and potato salad were good (not kraft), and green spaghetti had freshness and a bit of kick, but not enough to overpower.
