I went to Wally's Southern BBQ after seeing all the incredible reviews, so I went in with pretty…read morehigh expectations. Unfortunately, I left a little disappointed. The food wasn't bad by any means--it was good--but based on the reviews, I was expecting great. The brisket was good, the ribs were just okay, and the pulled pork was pretty average. The sauces, however, were excellent and probably stood out the most for me. I would say the portion side for the price was disappointing. The Mac and cheese was a side portion at an entrée price. The service was below average during our visit. Our waitress seemed distracted, which was a little surprising considering there were only two of us in the restaurant at the time. The atmosphere also felt a bit disconnected. There seemed to be different music playing in different areas--John Denver on one side and Rihanna on the other--which made the overall environment feel a little disorganized rather than giving the restaurant a cohesive Southern BBQ atmosphere. There's definitely potential here. The sauces are great, the brisket was solid, and the food overall was still enjoyable. But with the reputation and reviews this place has, I expected a more memorable experience. A little more attention to service, consistency, and atmosphere could go a long way. I think they can do better.

The filing on top of the hard-boiled eggs was creamy with a lot of flavor. Charcuterie - This was a standard plate with what appeared to be fresh meats, fruits, and vegetables. Pulled Pork - This was great. The pork was very tender with limited fatty pieces. There was a ton of flavor to this, and BBQ sauce was not even needed. St. Louis Ribs - These were tasty too. They came right off the bone, not dry, and even better when BBQ sauce was added. They were probably my favorite item tried of the day. Potato Salad - This was not bad. The potatoes were a little inconsistent by some being hard and others soft. The mayo base was tasty. There seemed to be a little mustard present, which balanced the mayo flavor, whatever it was, it was a nice compliment. House Salad - This was a standard house salad. I would have liked to seen more items besides spring mix used, but not a big deal. The balsamic vinegar dressing was the key here. It had a thick texture and was very good. Will I go back? Yes.

The good: Seating is plentiful and we were able to sit right away. They have both booths and large tables for larger parties if needed. Service was nice. The bbq sauces are some of the best I've ever had. The barbecue beans are delish and sweet, if you like a sweet barbecue bean. The cornbread was really good. The menu is quite large with tons of options. Cool atmosphere inside. And bathrooms are clean. The - could be better: my bbq brisket sandwich was extremely dry to the point some of the pieces i couldn't even bend the meat. There was very little bbq sauce on it so thankfully i loved the bbq sauces so i drenched it. All the sauces are kept on the tables for easy access. The okra was not crispy. The ribs looked good on the plate turned upside down but once turned over the tops were burnt and the meat was also very dry. Also the house salad, i had to ask for cheese and croutons, it came with one slice of tomato and one slice of cucumber. So the house salad is quite bland just a heads up. Will try again, hopefully just an off day with the meats.

Actually our very first time here we couldn't get a seat because it it that popular. I love their chicken and dumpling soup. This is THE definition of comfort for to me. It tastes like a quality chicken pot pie with actual goodies, none of this whole farmland of potatoes, carrot, and peas plus some broth and butter and a shred of chicken tail and calling it a "chicken soup." This was a hearty soup with chunks of white meat chicken and soft dumplings. Basically chicken dumpling soup as they say, vs potatoes cube soup. It is a must have. I really did myself a disservice and only got a cup.... on my own vacation after working throughout the entire pandemic on-site. The gulf shrimp platter (I got blackened) absolutely delicious. I love the Bourbon Sriracha sauce and used it as a dipping sauce for my fries. You can also never go wrong with hearty mashed potatoes and their gravy. My fiance got some brisket pork combo (in the entrees section) plus mac and cheese side... so good!! This is a must go to place, and the staff are super pleasant. Zero complaints from me!

We ordered at the counter and everyone we interacted with was friendly despite them being busy. As far as the food-- my husband got shrimp tacos with homemade chips and I got fried catfish with beans, potato salad, and Texas toast. My husband said the tacos were good but he wished there was some more boom boom sauce. I tried his chips and I thought they were good, but needed a little salt. They have salt and pepper + sauces in a certain area so that is an easy fix. My fish was delicious. I'm from the south and I thought there was no way the fish would be comparable. However, the breading was perfect and it definitely had just come out of the fryer. They gave you a lemon to squeeze on top which I also appreciated. The potato salad was absolutely delicious 10/10. The beans were good, but they are sweet (more like brown sugar baked beans). I like my baked beans more savory. My husband loved them though. Texas toast was buttery, but definitely had been sitting under a heat lamp. I didn't care-- still thought it was good. The fact that the food is good and fast once you order is pretty miraculous considering how busy they were.

It's situated off a winding river in Venice that I think connects to the Ocean. We went on Sunday and it was PACKED! Wow! The people working the place were very nice and they have a good well oiled system as far as ordering and your order coming out. Now the food was not cheap, but it was some great BBQ. We got the shredded pork and the Texas Brisket and my dad said the brisket was some of the best he has ever had. They have pitchers of cold beer with the frozen metal cubes in the center.
