It's also one of the only LIRR stations in NYC with a crossing, so don't be running rate if you're catching a train on the other side of the platform. Purchase your ticket ahead of time. There's no indoor waiting area and there's only one shelter, but the platforms rarely get crowded, so it only really matters if it's super cold outside. There's also a decent-sized parking lot with a cab service (wouldn't recommend the latter unless you're in a hurry or the Q36 isn't running). Speaking of that 36, it used to wait for the Queens-bound trains to arrive during the evening rush. Don't know if it still does. The surrounding area is safe, so there's no need to have anxiety taking a train here at night. There's really nothing around the station except a little deli where you can grab a quick sandwich or drink before you depart.

If you're running late it is highly likely you will miss your train unless you're already on the platform and can run up the stairs and down quickly. Be sure to leave enough time to buy tickets if you do not have any as the machines are located by the entrance of the parking lot which is on the East bound side.. there is one machine also located across on the west bound side. Parking lot has a fee for the weekdays but weekends it is free.

Nothing special about the station itself. This station is about 30 to 45 minutes from Penn Station but usually requires a transfer. However, for Atlantic Station in Brooklyn the trip is usually direct. Because there is no ticketing booth you have to purchase your ticket from a machine on the ground level. At times there are lines at the ticketing machine so if you have to buy tickets give yourself enough time. The trains arrive on schedule for the most part and during the cold season there is a indoor waiting room for customers.

My style is traditional, but I do believe individuals and society must adapt with changing times for updated modernization - at least keep it classic and simple which this subway station maintain. The entrance/exit kiosk is modern, but a classic and very simple appeal glass-and-steel canopies with no lavish modern awnings. The artwork for the station, titled "Perasma I and II; Dappleganger," by Stephen Westfall installed in 2018 consists of 47 laminated glass mural panels in the mezzanine, each with geometric designs. And you will be waiting, it's the LIRR. Bathrooms are in mediocre shape. The real problem is that the place is only open in peak hours. Make sure you buy your tickets prior to boarding or you get hit with a surcharge that could double your ticket price. Then the ride on average 22 minutes vs 1.15 and bus train combo Cost is on average 4 times more than regular transit during rush hour west or east off peak about 2.5 times more. Continuously undergoing renovations with upgrading the station with elevators for the physically challenged the stairhall is narrow and utterly crowded creating pedestrian congestion. There is no waiting area upon swiping your MetroCard for entrance. Like all Queens stations on the A train (including the Rockaways), this station is elevated. Nota Bene: Upon discharge from the stairhall and onto street level, straphangers beware of sketchy livery cab drivers vigorously soliciting by loitering at the foot of the station staircase as many willfully block the method of egress and street screaming "cab?!" At this station straphangers can connect with Q10 bus for a journey to JFK Airport.
