Played a $98 morning round in sprinklers. Made the turn in the afternoon ($78 play through rate) at 5pm and no one was in the clubhouse to buy a hot dog or beer from. Carts would say you were in a restricted area while in the middle of the fairway or on the cart path and then shut down. Stayed on property in a house filled with bugs and doors that don't lock. Showed up to the house with the front door wide open. Not coming back don't recommend. If in the area save your money and go to Wild Horse they take care of you.

This course is an unexpected surprise in a remote corner of western Nebraska. My husband and I have now stopped here twice on the way to Colorado and look forward to a time when we can spend more than a day. Course is a beautiful design with a mix of plains with livestock, Sandhills, a lakeside view, and the desert sage. Really nice people, great restaurant, and this trip we stayed in one of the onsite lofts which was clean and cozy. Houses and cabins for rent. One tip- bring extra balls. Tough course, lots of blind shots, and terrain that you can't/shouldn't be trekking through in in search of your ball. But of course, you're probably a much better player than me.

Genuinely zero stars if I could. Awful staff in pro shop. Rude and disrespectful. Definitely would not recommend

Our recent family vacation to Dismal River was nothing short of magical--truly the most memorable…read moretrip we've taken in years. Tucked away in the scenic serenity of Mullen, Nebraska, this resort offered everything we could have hoped for and more. We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights in a beautifully appointed home with 4 king beds and 4 bathrooms--plenty of space for everyone to spread out and relax in comfort and privacy. My family are avid golfers, often playing upwards of 30 holes a day, and they couldn't get enough of the immaculate courses. As someone who doesn't golf, I wasn't sure how much I'd enjoy this trip, but I was pleasantly surprised. I'd ride along for the first 9 holes or so in the morning, soaking in the breathtaking views and peaceful atmosphere, then head back to the clubhouse to unwind by the pool. The pool area was pristine and inviting, with ample chairs and fresh towels always available. Kelsie, one of the standout clubhouse servers, made my time there even more enjoyable. She regularly checked in on me, bringing food and drinks with a warm smile and genuine hospitality that made me feel truly cared for. Dining at Dismal was a highlight in itself. Each night we were looked after by an amazing team--Vyktorya, Sabrina, and Kelsie--who not only provided exceptional service but also took the time to learn about us and where we were from. Their knowledge of the food and drink menu was impressive, and their personal recommendations never missed the mark. They even stepped outside with us during sunset to help capture beautiful family photos with the stunning backdrop--something they did gladly and without hesitation. And then there was "Chef"--the heart behind the incredible meals we enjoyed. Though we never caught his real name, his presence was unforgettable. He made a point to visit our table every evening, checking in personally to hear our thoughts on dinner. His passion for his craft came through in every dish, from the perfectly cooked steaks to the decadent cheesecake. It's rare to find that level of connection between a chef and guests, and it made our dining experiences feel all the more special. Sarah, the Food and Beverage lead, also left a lasting impression. Her enthusiasm and warmth made us feel right at home. She went above and beyond, even sharing recipes for the signature drinks we loved so much so we could try recreating them at home. Each night she spent time at our table, making sure we had everything we needed--and often more. Another stand out staff member was the General Manager, John. He came by to check on us every night at dinner and wanted our honest feedback from the day of the course. He is always looking for great ways to improve the Club. As a non-golfer, I still found plenty to enjoy, whether it was relaxing in a rocking chair on the clubhouse porch, soaking up the views, or hopping in a "room cart" to meet up with my family on the course or at Jack's Shack for lunch. The entire property is a haven of hospitality, peace, and natural beauty. And speaking of food--Dismal River's culinary offerings are on another level. Every bite feels intentional and crafted with care, from the milkshakes at Jack's Shack to the flavorful chicken Caesar wraps at Buffalo Bills, to that flawless ribeye and rich cheesecake at dinner. The consistency and quality across the board set Dismal apart from any other golf resort we've visited. Traveling from Chicago to Denver to North Platte and then driving to Mullen was a journey--but absolutely worth every mile. This trip brought our family closer together, gave us lasting memories, and left us already counting down the days until we return next year. Thank you, Dismal River Club, for an unforgettable experience. You've set a new standard for what a family vacation can be.

Absolutely fabulous. The golf course is stunning, maintained as if the US Open was coming next week…read moreand extremely challenging. We played a scramble so even I contributed to our score. The clubhouse is perfect. The patio and fire pit are divine as it looks out over a big valley. The clubhouse has big leather furniture and a magnificent Pendleton Indian carpet. We had a big chunk of prime rib along with salad and asparagus. Please understand that all the food must be brought in from North Platte which is 100 miles away. My only complaint is about the beer and wine selection. I choose a blend wine I didn't know. My mistake but I drank it out at the fire pit so that made up for it.

This is a challenging course, and not one for beginners. Because of the elevation changes, it's easy to misjudge distance, so bring a range finder. Greens are not lightning fast like many desert courses (there are cactus out here). On one hole, you're so close to a Wendy's that you can walk over and get a Frosty while others in your group tee off. Heritage Hills is a gem and must-play if in the area.

It's an hour north of where I grew up in northwest Kansas and is an easy drive and an excellent test of golf skill. Growing up in high school, they used to have a $10 greens fee for students on weekdays and I'm actually not sure if they still have that, but even if it's more than $10, it's definitely still worth it. This golf course is definitely not for beginners. There are huge slope changes and many blind shots. There are also a bunch of bunkers, lots of tall native grass, extremely undulating greens and the course has a little bit of length. It gets extremely difficult playing in the wind, and in SW Nebraska it blows pretty hard 320+ days of the year. I came up to Nebraska for the annual John Mullen Memorial Pro-Am Tournament. It's an extremely well run event, and always raises between $15,000-20,000 for the foundation which is really awesome considering the small town. The pro's get paid well if you play well so it attracts many good players who want to play a great golf course and have a chance at some good money (winner gets paid $2200 on a $150 entry fee) Anyway, the golf course is fantastic. The reason it doesn't get 5 stars from me is because the greens aren't as fast and demanding as they used to be. It was a cool and wet spring so the grass hasn't filled in as well as usual so they couldn't chop down the greens, but they used to be really really difficult, and the harder; the better!!! Now it seems you really have to "hit" the ball instead of just being able to stroke it and get it started down your line. I saw a lot of good putts that should be fast, that were hit on a good line, and the grass slowed them down and they missed low and short. If they could speed them back up, this course is a 5 star experience.
