Eagle canyon is a unique lodging area on the other side of the dam on Lake Mcconaughy. We usually stay at the beach houses right across from Martin Bay, but we weren't able to secure any spots there, so we went with the only available area for a group of 10, and Eagle Canyon was it. Based on other reviews and the photos I was able to set my own expectations for the trip. I knew our cabin, the lily pad would be tight. But it was just my husband and two little kids. Our cabin was narrow, but still had a semi-kitchen. Mini fridge, stove up, small bathroom, and a bunk bed + full bed in the bedroom then a futon pull out. My 6'4 husband had to sleep on the futon because he was too tall for the bedroom, but that was fine by me because the bed was actually really comfy. Overall, we spent almost no time in our cabin. Our in-laws had a butterfly cabin which is very similar layout to the lilypad, and my mother and father in laws cabin was the eagle, so it was bigger. They had a full fridge so we stocked a lot of food there and they were a bit more secluded. The cabins we were in are tucked in between mobile campers so we started with a lot of neighbors and then they left over the week and it was just cabins. Now, onto the amenities, they have a general store with a lot of what you might need if you forgot some food items and drinks, including alcohol. They had beach toys and stuff for kids. The staff was SUPER nice and really friendly. The play ground was nice, they have basketballs for the court, and we enjoyed the pool, it was really perfect for toddlers not sure about teenagers. On our favorites was the pony rides on Sunday, our kids really enjoyed that. It was a really unique place to stay for 3 nights and I enjoyed getting all my steps in going back and forth. There is a trail to walk close to the beach. If you don't mind the 30 mins daily drive to the beach its a good place to stay. read more

We absolutely loved our stay here at Eagle Canyon. We came as a big family and all had different cabins and RV spots. We stayed in the Eagle Cabin which was very comfortable and perfect for what our family of 3 needed. The bed was comfortable and towels were very nice for a camping cabin. The only slight complaint/feedback I have was that the kitchen items could have been in better condition but it's a small cabin and understandable that they're kind of bare minimum. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the entire area and overall respect of the property and other guests. The pool wasn't exactly first class but the kids LOVED it and had a blast. Very friendly service. The location was OK- a bit of a drive (10 Minutes to the nicer beach) but we would totally stay here again and highly recommend. (I also want to add that adjusting your expectations is helpful- I looked at some of these reviews and honestly, You are signing up for a camping area in Nebraska- not the Ritz. stayed here a couple of years ago. We were recently talking about the worst road trip we have ever had and this place came up. I noticed others had similar experiences as we did so I thought I would give folks a heads up. Its your typical camper/ cabin type place nothing fancy and the cabins are ok. No big deal. The biggest issue we had were the bugs. Cabins were not very clean and screens missing from windows. Bugs, bugs, bugs... At night we could see them everywhere. It got so bad we could hear our dogs chomping into the air trying to catch them. We ended up leaving and checking out early and staying at a hotel in town. read more

Our first time visiting Eagle Canyon Hideaway was a pleasant stay. If you need a place just to relax this is the place. Quite friendly place. I will be returning in the future. Pricing isn't too bad. There is a small general store, pool, showers and flushing toilets and running water. We stayed in the sleeper cabin. Cute and has a/c and a ceiling fan. There are bigger cabins to rent as well. Probably our worst coming experience in 20 years!! Immediately upon arriving I was concerned about some loud, rowdy guests and boy was I right!! There were multiple campers that were together spread around the campground. One of them were 4 sites down from us blasting their music. This went on all day to where we couldn't hear our own music or tv. Very disrespectful! They were also keeping their dogs off leash which is one of the campground rules. Our 5lb. doggy was lunged at by one of them! This meant that their dogs were free to potty wherever and at one point one of the large dogs pooped right next to our camper. We had to tell them to go pick it up because they were oblivious! At this point it was time to address all of this with the campground owner.... To our dismay she thought that the music was at an acceptable level!!! The entire front of the campground and probably some of the back could hear the music and this qualifies as acceptable??? It is our opinion that the noise coming from your RV should be heard by you and you alone. There's an etiquette that campers should follow and this was disrespectful of every other guest! Could you imagine if every site blasted tv/music? Anyhow, she finally agreed to ask them to turn down the music but later added that it was our responsibility to speak to them LOL - yeah that would have went over well! Never in our 20 years of camping have we had any other campground allow blasting music and not do something about it or suggest that we should?! The campground serves as the mediator and they are the ones to enforce the rules not the guests. At this point she is suggesting that WE leave!? Is this place for real? Apparently these guests are regulars which explains everything!!! She tells us to let her know if anything else arises. Therefore, we addressed the dog lunging at our dog unleashed and again suggests that we leave LOL - Ok so we follow the rules and we're the ones asked to leave? The next morning we go into the office and she accuses us of stealing firewood from the night before?! OMG WE NEVER LEFT OUR CAMPER & WE HAVE A GAS FIRE PIT!!! We don't even use firewood!!! Later she tells us it must of been another camper with a grey truck and her husband was mistaken. Are you kidding me?? That was because they were now out to get us for complaining so that being the last straw we decided to leave!! We were only there one night and had planned to stay 5 nights and our drive was 3.5 hours one way. Thanks to the owner our trip was now ruined and our weekend a huge bust! So in conclusion we do NOT recommend this place whatsoever!!! It's too bad because it's an OK campground with the exception that there seems to be a lot of residents... There is also no tv or WIFI and the water hookups are unique. We did not leave on the best terms but she did refund us in full which was more than appropriate! read more

Great place. Clean cabins, fun activities, friendly people. We come every Labor Day and there are a lot of regulars. A little hard to get to , but worth the drive. Store even has a diner. Haven't tried it but nice option. Last night they had volleyball and a scavenger hunt for the kids! They do a nice job. read more

Super cute cabin. Very clean-stayed in the Timberwolf. Only reason for the drop of one star was the shower which is very short and extremely temperamental. Would go from scalding to freezing in a moment. The stairs to the two loft beds are very very steep and if you were not prepared for it, this could be an issue. The other improvement would be a light switch near the head of the bed as my husband cracked his head on the ceiling when we got into our bed because there was no light. Fun trip overall, nice little beach area. The wifi was not very beneficial read more

Eagle Canyon Rocks! They're right on Lake Mac with a 'beach' and access to the lake for whatever water craft you bring. They have Tent sites, Pull Thru and back in RV spots with full hook up and sleeper cabins, full cabins that sleep more than 12 and a bath house with 5 or 6 private bath rooms with showers, sinks and toilets that is constantly cleaned and freshened up several times per day. The General Store has most any basic necessity that you might need for your adventure with an attached restaurant for when you don't want to cook for yourself. The staff is very friendly and willing to accommodate any issue or situation that you have. We love Eagle Canyon Hideaway, i reluctantly write the review to prevent people reserving my spot. We showed up, never being to Lake mac, and expecting a 10 person cabin so stay in for the entire week. The cabin is TINY. We are on top of each other! And 4 of the people are stuck staying up in a loft which is 2 feet tall. I'm on a squeaky couch, and there is one bedroom with a tiny bed expecting for sleep 2 people. No curtains or blinds on the upper windows, so instead of sleeping in on my vacation, I'm up at 6am everyday with the sun. One of the blinds is completely missing in the bedroom. The bathroom is fun-sized, I hope you like squatting when you shower so your head can actually get water on it. It's SO DIRTY. And I have 2 kids under 4, I know what dirty is. So much dust, cobwebs, and the blinds are FILTHY. the vacuum in here is next to broken so it's not picking up anything, aka I know so must dust is in this carpet. We also have a Porta crib with us, so moved the bed over 6 inches to fit it in the room, and the amount of dust, dirt, and random items under the bed was sickening. I also thought maybe a smell of urine was in the room so I went to the store and bought a bottle of febreeze. I thought the $1,200 I was paying for a week in a cabin was going to be worth it, but not for it being like this. Sleeps 10 they said, and only 3 can shower before the water is frozen! SO MANY BUGS. I can't express this enough. The screen sliding door is missing so we're keeping the door shut the entire time and bugs are still sneaking in, I'm guessing from the window unit AC...i wake up every morning because flies are walking all over my face and arms, it's sickening. Water- we were able to launch the boat from the beach, but it's only sand, no cement ramps, just an FYI. The owner seems like sweethearts, but seriously these cabins need a deep cleaning :( I'm upset that my allergies are flaring up so much due to the dust. I will post pictures of the inch thick dust and cobwebs everywhere. The have cable, laundry rooms (1.50 wash, 1.25 dry) and they have a little store and restaurant just in case you forgot things. read more

Nice, family friendly campground. Managers Miranda and Lucus bent over backwards to accommodate us and ensure we were comfortable. Plenty on things for the kids to do. Cabins and RV spots were clean and obviously well maintained. Great little place on a beautiful lake! read more

This place is great! We came with about 20 of us in separate cabins. The hospitality is UNMATCHED! Everyone was so nice and helpful, and the breakfast buffet on Sunday morning was delicious! We had a sleeper cabin that suited our needs perfectly, climate controlled and very clean and was very affordable. This was our first time to Lake Mac and the staff was very helpful in telling us where to go for good fishing as well as providing lots of activities and supplies for us. We would love to go back! read more

The lake is inaccessible here -- due to drought and, mostly, irrigation for farming that is draining lakes everywhere. Sand burrs are a bad problem; the manager valiantly fights the battle but plan on getting some. The RV sites are tight, and the water connection is cumbersome. No television signals at all, but I did pick up a slight cell phone signal (Verizon). Not much shade. The manager is very nice and helpful -- he came out looking for us at 10PM. The place is extremely difficult to find at night; there are very few signs, spotty satellite signals, and GPS stops short of the destination. Very quiet. Looks like most of the parked trailers are permanently parked. read more

This is NOT as promised. No decent lake access, terrible roads, dated lodging, and nowhere near the key areas (like Martin Bay) of Lake Mac. This was by far the worst part of our first ever visit to Lake Mac. Overpriced, dated, bug-infested, and we did not leave on good terms nor did we receive the call back from owners we requested. read more

Nice cabin, good food, and friendly staff. Lots of things for the kids to do which was great, besides the lake. We will be back.
