Beautiful blue and white tiled bathroom with shower only - wonderful water pressure and hot water! Tony and Jan supply body wash, shampoo, and conditioner (Neutrogena Rainbath and Pantene at the time of my visit). Small wood-burning stove with logs and all the tools needed to keep a fire going. Wifi signal was great - I watched some Netflix and joined a Zoom meeting from my own computer and had no issues with either. Hot tub was great. Outdoor space to sit at a nice table with four chairs and a nice looking BBQ. I saw an elk roaming on the property, lots of quail and other birds (they have a pictorial guide of birds hanging by the front door right as you walk in). The yurt is on a gravel road. You pass the neighbor's sheep and horses as you drive in. Point Reyes Station is literally right around the corner - a 2-3 minute drive - with lots of food, great markets and shopping. Inverness is a 5-minute drive (if that). The yurt is very conveniently located. I passed Jan and Tony and Stella, their dog, on the way out one night - very friendly and made sure I had everything I needed. I will be thrilled when the opportunity comes to visit again!!

The yurt is charmingly rustic, clean, quiet, private, and the perfect location to access the many outdoor offerings of west Marin. It has a fantastic hot tub that's perfect to relax in after a day of hiking. Tony and Jan are incredibly kind, wonderful hosts. We've only had one issue we had to contact them about over the years (no soap in the shower) and they took care of it very quickly.

Historic old farmhouse with wonderful NPS interpretive history display covering a wall in the living room. Immaculate rooms and common areas. Wildlife: coveys of quail, momentary shadow of hawk chasing lizard. Dark skies. Why we won't go back: We, a married couple, occupied one of the rooms in one of the 4-unit structures. Each of these has a kitchen shared by four rooms. Two rooms share am separated bath and shower. In order of unpleasantness for us: 1. The double bed was too small; one of us kept falling off the edge while the other was squished against the wall all night. 2. Sharing the bathroom with unknown neighbors was awkward. 3. Going from building to building and into one's room required memorizing four separate keypad codes, one of which changed in the middle of our stay. Imagine having to remember all this when it's dark and you need to use the bathroom. 4. The main building has a big kitchen. Some things (like coffee and tea) are supplied. But it is difficult to figure out what is provided for guests and what is available to use. It is difficult to figure out how to cook one's meals when there are a dozen other guests with whom one must negotiate. It is slightly easier in the smaller kitchens. 5. Wi-fi was unreliable. Other than the too-small bed, the worst part of our stay was that someone took away our brown paper grocery bag after we unwittingly left it in the main building upon our arrival. There are mysterious kitchen protocols of where one is supposed to leave one's things, and I never did figure this out. You are supposed to mark your stuff, but we did not realize this until our last morning. When we could not find our food bag, we assumed we;d left it at home, so we did not mount a search until it was too late. We had squirreled away odds and ends of food for our hiking lunch, so we shrugged it off. But we had to drive to Olema for dinner. The first morning, I was very unhappy at not being able to find my coffee. I am not a morning person and hate loud commotion. I almost cried at having to make polite conversation while the neighbors were cooking strange-smelling foods. One kind soul dosed me on caffeine. If this were still a hostel and the price was $50/nite, all this might be fine. But the NPS clearly requires this concessionaire to set prices that compare to the AirB&Bs of Inverness - $200/night. So it is to Inverness that we will go next time.

The drive there was a bit grooling, due to a bike race. When we finally got there, we put the horse away in their stalls and found some port in the living room, Nice! The biggest issues: * The rooms are not well insulated. - We could clearly hear normal conversations and footsteps from the room above us. The guests weren't being loud or inconsiderate. The building simply doesn't block sound well. We were woken up multiple times during the night and again early in the morning by people coming home or leaving. * The room felt run down and poorly maintained - There was mildew or mold all on the lower half of the living room curtains, dirt built up in the window sills, cobwebs around the ceiling and skylights, and obvious damage from an old skylight leak with warped, peeling paint that had never been properly repaired. * Missed simple towel requests - Our DELUX KING room came with only TWO bath towels and two hand towels. We politely asked for a few extra towels the first morning there. When we came back that afternoon, the towels had been replaced, but there were still only two bath towels and two hand towels, once again:( we had to walk down to the front desk building and ask for 2 more towels to bring back so we could both shower. * The pillows were dirty and smelled strongly of mildew - They had that unmistakable damp, musty smell like they'd been left wet for a long time. Since we arrived late the first night, we waited and asked the front desk the next AM if they could swap them out. Instead, they simply changed the pillowcases and left the same pillows. We ended up grabbing blankets from our car to wrap around them so we didn't have to smell them while we slept. That should never happen at any price point. It's just baseline to have clean bedding. * Grounds maintenance was poorly timed - On our first afternoon, the grounds crew was mowing with a ride-on mower that wasn't collecting the grass. They drove right up against our deck, covering the patio and lounge chairs with grass and dust. We had the sliding door open, so the debris blew straight into our room. We mentioned it to the front desk on our way out and asked if someone could sweep off the deck. They seemed surprised the mowing was happening on a Friday, which is one of the biggest check-in days. * We also woke up to pressure washing - Early Friday morning, we were greeted by the sound of the building next to ours being pressure washed. It seems like the kind of maintenance that could easily be scheduled during the middle of the week instead of during a busy check-in day. * Sub par restaurant experience - We had dinner at the restaurant our first night with a 6:45 reservation. We were seated on time, but no one came by to even take a drink order for about 20 minutes. We were told they were understaffed. Our food order wasn't taken until around 7:45, about an hour after we had been seated. When we finished dinner, we were immediately offered the check. We asked if there was dessert, and our server said, "Yes, it just hasn't been popular tonight." Our bill was around $250, so it was pretty clear we had come to enjoy a nice dinner, not just grab a quick bite. It felt like a missed opportunity to simply ask if we'd like to see the dessert menu or enjoy another course before ending the meal. I did appreciate seeing the GM helping bus tables during a busy service. That said, I was surprised to see him doing it in flip-flops, which didn't feel appropriate in a restaurant. I work in hospitality, so I understand that staffing challenges happen. But most of what we experienced didn't feel like a staffing issue. It felt like a lack of attention to maintenance, housekeeping, scheduling, and overall operations. The property has so much potential because the location is fantastic. Unfortunately, the guest experience simply doesn't match the price. With better operational planning and more attention to the condition of the rooms, this could be a wonderful place to stay. As it stands today, I don't think the value is here.

The cottage offers all the creature comforts, including a hottub with a view; about the only problem that we had while we were there was that we couldn't get the Internet access to function, and there was no cell phone coverage, so it was an off-the-net experience; this added to the serenity. The views across Tomales bay from three directions are magical (but be warned: this is probably not a good house for families with small children - there is not much barrier on the patio) Well worth the money, and highly recommended.

Frank's breakfasts are some of the best we've ever had at BnBs, with a friendly environment with the other guests, (and bird-watching during breakfast!)
