Ok I've been coming here for over 12 years and sadly yesterday was my last attempt. I've had 3 to see if it was just an off day. But no, my gumbo tastes like mop water or mildew again. I dont understand maybe the crab quality. Not sure but for $20 I Couldn't even finish it. Had to dispose of it out of fear of getting sick. The rice was even off. Bayou Grille has bomb azz wings, po-boys, and fried fish! My favorite flavors have been Bayou BBQ and Firecracker. The staff are warm & welcoming, and the ambiance is nostalgic for my family and I who've been coming for over a decade. Love the lunch specials and say that most times the customer service is pretty good! However I do think that whatever seasonings they use in the cornmeal mix to fry could be a bit more. I appreciate that the food is not over salted but I can BARELY taste any seasonings in the fried foods. The gumbo is delicious and well seasoned so I know it can be done. read more

This time the food wasn't the same at all. The grease needed to be replaced and you can see and taste the difference when the grease is dirty. The service was good they do bring your food to you. The setting is comfortable and relaxing. But the food has definitely changed since I was here last. Definitely change that grease. read more

We had a date night planned, and we were looking for a place to get dinner before our show. My husband wanted soul food so we began the Yelp search, many places came up but this one seemed close to our show spot and it was open on a Monday which many places in the area are not. This place was clean and had tons of yummy looking options. So we couldn't wait to taste the food! I ordered the fried shrimp, oyster and catfish platter and my husband got the gumbo. The owner helped us out and took our order. It platter was the perfect amount of food. Plenty of fish and oysters. Seasoned good and not too salty. The gumbo was very good not great, everything was fresh including the crab legs it just was missing a little bit of salt to push it over the edge. We would order it again. Got some sides catered for an event! We got yams and Mac and cheese and they were both bomb! Everyone (~50 people) liked them and they were completely gone by the end of lunch! I don't know if I just went on an off day, but I would hardly consider the "jambalaya" they served me Jambalaya. (see pic) It tasted like old fried rice with burnt, stale pieces of meat and no flavor. The catfish was not crispy. The lettuce was wilted.... The real deal!! I've been to New Orleans a few times and eaten there a lot each time. The great food at Bayou Grille made me feel like I was in the LA state rather than the LA city!! The food is tasty, the service is okay. There is no desire to dine in as the decor isn't very welcoming. The ambiance, or atmosphere, of a restaurant sets the tone for the entire dining experience. It encompasses everything from the decor and lighting to the overall vibe of the restaurant. And while the food may be tasty and the service may be okay, if the ambiance is lacking, it can greatly diminish the overall enjoyment of the meal. read more

Food was OK gumbo could've been better chicken wings nothing to brag about but the place is so unkept. It literally needs a wash down. This quaint little place is across the street from my hairdresser. So, when a friend suggested it for lunch, I quickly said yes, as it was less than a block away. You order at the counter and they take ApplePay. The order taker was not overly friendly, but she was just fine. She suggested the potato salad over the coleslaw. I thought my catfish was delicious, but the potato salad was a bit dry and lacking seasoning . My friend said her shrimp could have been a bit crispier and the cocktail sauce was really thick. When I feel like food needs more seasoning (like the potato salad), I always add a caveat: lack of salt may be intentional because MANY people are cutting back on salt. Overall, I will definitely return. The menu is pretty large, so I'd like to try other things, but I loved the catfish. The owner and staff always have attitudes towards the customers, and the food is old, tasteless and nasty. After giving them multiple chances, I decided not to return after the bread on my Po Boy was molded. Just nasty. They need to give it up! read more

If I could give this place no stars I would! The jambalaya was so dark & dry, looked like burnt brown rice, also what little pieces of meat we found in it was shriveled up and hard! The macaroni was so dry & hard, it wasn't even edible! The collard greens were light green in color! The catfish was very muddy tasting and the skin was dark like it was fried in old grease & it tasted like it. The shrimps were over cooked & rubbery af! Oh let me not forget the super salty crab cake that was capacity filled with onions, I talked to a young fair skin girl who worked the register & brought food to the table, to tell her how displeased we were with the food, she acted very unconcerned and had the gall to tell us there's salt, pepper & slap ya mama seasoning on the counter! I would never recommend this place nor will I be back! The prices were cheap, I should have known better just by that... I guess you really do get what you pay for! I wish I had taken photos of the food, I would have been embarrassed to serve anyone food that looked the way it did. This is a great restaurant with great food and service. When my sister comes to town, we always stop in and share a Shrimp Po-Boy. I love their shrimp Po-Boy sandwich with fries. This is a great neighborhood restaurant. The owner Michael has a wonderful personality and his staff makes sure you are satisfied with your meal and your experience at this restaurant. The decor of the restaurant makes you feel like you're in NOLA. This restaurant plays great music with the TV in the second dining area has sports playing. There is free street parking. My coworker turned me on to this place. He's an Inglewood born 'n raised fella, with ancestral ties to Louisiana that still tug at his heart strings. He's also a picky eater, so when he swears by a place, that's because it's good. He swears by this one, and indeed the food is delicious. The twelve inch Po' Boy is a good amount of food to feed the machine mid-day, and that potato salad is really tasty & fresh. The catfish and breading is worth the trip, it's crave-worthy. This joint has its own orbit and will have you circling back, quality food for sure. read more

Best cajun food I have had for awhile, found this place during traffic hour after my audition, the place was rich of history, they have a big dining room area, I ordered a bunch of different fried seafood, oysters, cat fish nuggets, red snapper, tiger shrimp, comes out around $40 which was decent, also they have reward card so they will stamp you for every visit, and you can get a free entree after 10 visits. I do wish they have alligator bites and frog legs, that would make my day even better, but oh boy there cocktails sauce are to die for, I finished them all. Bayou Grille Deeply Disappointed! "Gumbo" has the AROMA & TASTE OF CANNED VEGETABLE SOUP with a boatload of red and black pepper added. No roux whatsoever was used in the making of this travesty. The shrimp is overcooked and rubbery. The "sausage" seems to be a very thinly sliced hot dog link. The little snow crab legs failed to add any seafood flavor to this stuff. I feel cheated, especially after paying Door Dash over $30 for a cup of gumbo and a side of potato salad for my lunch. The potato salad was okay, but it didn't make up for the scam gumbo. This was my first visit here and was excited to try it out. I ordered the red snapper plate with shrimp, jambalaya, greens, and a crab cake. The crab cake was very good with real lump crab meat, the jambalaya was very good. The greens are tastless and the red snapper was cooked a little hard but was still good and crunchy. This place is located by the corner of Labrea and 64th street. It is on and corner and you will miss it if you are driving too fast. They have outside seating in case you want to dine out but nothing available inside due to social distancing. The food bewildered me. This is why, you can taste that the shrimp and fish were well battered and fried but it had no taste i.e. seasoning. I think it is because they serve older guests who may not be able to eat certain spices and I get it but geese! I squeezed so much lemon and used everyone of my small sized hot sauces (2 given). Im like what?! Bite size hot sauces for all this food. The tartar sauce was overly seasoned and that surprised me. The food wasnt seasoned but the tartar sauce was?! I love black-owned restaurants. I grew up in los angeles, but live in the central valley. Every time I am in Los Angeles area, I go to the Bayou Grill!!! I love the authentic flavors and seasoning as well as their dipping saucers, and they have such a great variety of options on their menu.There is no way that heyPerson can't find something that they like on their menu. I usually get the fried catfish, oysters and shrimp with collard greens and coleslaw. I always bring a friend with me and they have enjoyed. 20 years ago, Bayou Grille was my go to place for tasty fried fish and all the fixings, but in recent years, the quality of their food has deteriorated greatly. Today, I ordered fried catfish dinners with red beans & rice and French fries as sides and I was very disappointed with the quality of everything. Fried catfish exterior was over-seasoned with salt & pepper and the meat of the fish was bland. The beans were too spicy and not flavorful, hush puppies were overcooked (nearly burnt) and even the French fries were sub par. I don't know what's going on over there, but they need to get back to their old recipes with people who know how to cook. read more

We wanted to revisit this restaurant now that things are open after Covid. Used to be one of our favorites. They don't care that they forgot the hush puppies. They don't care that the food is tasteless. You're representing Louisiana cuisine? As tasteless? They don't care that the french fries are undercooked. They don't mind that they forgot the salad. They don't seem to mind the store... overgrown, unkempt flowerbed outside and tattered banner. The menu, however, seems freshly minted with new higher prices. Are you kidding me? $14 and $17 to go home and add your own seasonings? All their potential customer base happily patronizing neighboring restaurants. I thought my boyfriend ordered peach cobbler - but it was actually BURNT macaroni and cheese. The service here is not only * * * * * five star, but is above and beyond. It's counter-service you order, then you can either have your food "to go" or "dine in" where they bring you your food. The guy (and excuse me for not knowing his name, but I do believe he's a minimum a manager if not the business owner) who worked there on the MLK JR Day on Monday 01/21/19 in the evening was super friendly and helpful with his recommendations. We had our 1st time experience here knowing we'd be taking home leftovers because we wanted to try everything (or nearly that), and for 2 adults, we ordered a large gumbo (you always have to order the large when given options for sizes because it's so good, you'd regret not going bigger and also knowing you can always take home the extra for later), a 6" tiger shrimp fried prawn po' boy sandwich, a chicken strip special, and a chicken wing special... all for about $50, mind you there's enough food for 5 individual meals, so figure it's an avg of $10 per person when you think of it, for fresh food and good portions that'll fill you fine. The orders also came with garlic butter bread, and we got 2 unlimited refill soft-drinks, and they have Coca-Cola sodas as well as a decanter of their fresh made sweet tea available. The guy who was so wonderful, saw we had a baby/toddler, and went to the TV that was showing sports, and switched it to children's programming to entertain our son... he did that proactively as a thoughtful gesture which was well appreciated. It's that proactive customer care and client services that makes a business earn repeat business and regular diners who want to come back. Generally, good food is very easy to come by, there's so many choices. However, after you factor in the food quality, quantity, and pricing, there is a big variable which many restaurants don't focus on, which is service that determines whether people have a bad, mediocre, average, good, great or over-the-top dining experience. We had an over-the-top spectacular experience here. If not for the distant geography we'd come back and by more often. Parking isn't too difficult. With that being said 'tho, despite the distance, we do plan on coming back to try more of the menu items. I highly recommend the Chicken Strips, they're lightly battered, very moist, seasoned but not spicy and perfect for kids (as well as adults and eaters of all ages n' appetites). The Gumbo has real fresh snow crab in the shell (they give you a crab seafood cracker when you dine in), which is an awesome unexpected element that many other Cajun restaurants neglect adding to their gumbo. The sandwich, Po' Boy is good, and bread is soft and tasty, very easy to eat and great to share. The hot wings come in different degrees of spicy hot heat as well as zesty flavors for those who don't like it hot. I like the wings, they're not overly greasy nor fried and dry, so are flavorful. We hope to come back again when we're in the area, or might have to make a special trip out here to return if we're ever cravin' Cajun... read more
