The work requested was limited to: Mounting three TVs In-wall cable concealment on two TVs using existing wall paths/media boxes One new in-wall outlet (clearly called out and requested to be included in the quote) No drywall repair, no structural work, no permitting Despite this clearly defined written scope, the estimate was later characterized as covering "custom mounting," "infrastructure planning," and other items that were not part of the work requested and were never discussed. The quote came in at roughly 10× higher than multiple other licensed and insured installers for the same scope. The public response provided appeared to be boilerplate and did not address the specific written scope. It even referenced "[X] years of experience" without a number filled in, which suggested the response was copied without reviewing the details of this project. Before deciding, I verified licensing through the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) using the business name listed on their website. The CSLB records show the associated contractor licenses as expired, with a status stating the license is "expired and not able to contract at this time." Screenshots are included. For additional context, California limits unlicensed or handyman work to projects of $1,000 or less. Being quoted $5,000 for this scope made the pricing and justification even more difficult to reconcile. Experience and tools matter, but pricing and representations should align with the actual written scope of work and current licensing status. Attention to details matter as well, not clearly understanding the SOW, rushing quotes, and replies. Replying without understanding the issues. I will not being doing business with Basil as trust is important. I recommend getting multiple quotes, keeping scope in writing, and independently verifying license status before proceeding.

Hermary's is expensive and service has ranged from so so to horrible. This last service visit this past week was the final straw and we will be replacing our blinds so that we will never have to deal with Hermary's again. The technician they did not manage to fix our issue and said he was not a blinds person (yeah...). Then he managed to destroy one of the blinds by letting it roll up unevenly--it is not unusable and the tech could not fix it. Do NOT use Hermary's.

So I am the building owner and just wanted everyone to know my experience. So my tenant called Dawn…read more& the Lock for a door repair. Dawn & the Lock subcontracted to TML Mobile lock repair. The technician from TML told the tenant that there should be locks on both sides of the door and it was going to be an extra charge due to the two additional locks required. The technician was just about done when the tenant called me to explain the extra cost and the work that was being performed. I told the tenant that ANY reputable lock company knows it is against the low to have a door on a business that is locked from the inside at a main fire exit. When she confronted the technician he said it was safer and not against the law. I explained to her that is is 100% against the fire code and the technician ultimately admitted he was aware but said it was "Much safer" for the business. He then said he would change it back to the way it was. He even tried to bill the tenant for having to change the illegal locks. I called Dawn & the Lock and was unable to get a hold of a manager. The customer was charged $643 to replace two locks. Update: Ori, the owner of Dawn & the Lock, called me the following evening and was very apologetic after reading my review. He explained that he does not normally use subcontractors and wanted to make things right. He appeared sincerely customer service based and wanted to make sure I was happy with the work that was performed by his subcontractor. I was very impressed how he resolved the incident.

I needed someone to help troubleshoot my Nest installation; it had suddenly stopped working (and…read morethe previous installers didn't seem competent to fix it). I found Alex on the Next certified installer site (and see that he's still listed). Unfortunately, although I think Alex can probably handle the most basic Nest installation, I wouldn't recommend him. The previous installers had not used standard wiring colors and this seemed to throw Alex off quite a bit; he commented on it several times. Then, although he did use a voltage meter to test the wiring, he also started just randomly touching different wires together. When he got to the common wire, I witnessed the system make a loud electrical popping sound. There was no voltage detected on the common wire after that. He eventually gave up and said I should have the original installers fix it. I worry a bit that he shorted out the delicate electrical components on the furnace, resulting in a $600+ repair cost to me. And I don't think he should be a certified Nest installer. Despite shorting out my system and not fixing the original problem, he charged me $32.

Before he attempted to install the Nest he warned me about potential issues. I asked him to go ahead and sure enough, the wiring that powered my original thermostat was insufficient to power the Nest. Keep this in mind homeowners! I appreciated that Alex didn't try to charge me a fee for attempting to install the Nest and made a mental note to call on him if I needed help with anything else. A couple week's later I had an electrician install CAT6 cabling between my upstairs and downstairs. It never occurred to me that electricians typically do not terminate cables. I called up Alex and he said that he would terminate the cable for me. Not only did he terminate the cable but with extra time remaining he consulted me on a way to streamline my home network to improve my wifi signal strength. For anyone who has a "connected home" with a number of IoT gear, Alex is a great resource to get you up and running!
