Nam and his team were great. Lowest bid of 2 but very high quality work and great communication. Someone had DRAGGED a piece of furniture across 19 (yes 19!) floorboards and gouged them deeply. Nam explained 2 boards were *possibly* repairable but 19 boards repair was not an option due to sheer area and to make it worse, after 6 years (last time floor was refinished) matching the laquer/stain was going to be impossible. The damage was in the middle of the room. The floor looks like perfect again. They squeezed me in on 2 days notice and I am very satisfied with the restoration work. ps I contacted 5 companies. Nam is a craftsman. His work lives up to his reputation. The job was a small hardwood floor repair job to cover some concrete that became exposed when we moved non-loadbearing walls for a remodel. Our handyman tried his best to patch it but it did not come out very well. The transition between the hardwood and carpet would require a T-molding which are not present anywhere else in our condo. We had just finished a very long and expensive remodel and this last piece bothered us. So we decided to try a floor expert. When we spoke with Nam, he knew what he had to do and explained it well, using text and pictures. We were really happy! Nam used some of the engineered wood we had left over to replace some pieces expertly. The transition he used minimized the seam. Bay Floor Crafters was a great company to work with. Nam was detailed, responsive, and did a good job repairing a bunch of cracked/dangerously-close-to-cracked old fir boards on my old home. The floor had been sanded to a very thin level, so we needed a precision job to make sure the new boards installed weren't too high/out of place. Nam and his crew worked to make sure the height matched. The color wasn't quite right compared to the old boards, but it's good enough to work until I'm able to refinish the entire floor. About 9 months later, there's a bit of glue I've had to remove coming up between the floorboards, and one of the replaced boards is clearly too high, but overall things are still in good condition. And it was a great value/great speed for the price I paid. I recommend working with Nam! read more

Nam was very responsive to our call for a quote and we chose to use him based on a recommendation. However, it did not turn out as expected. The installation of the solid wood floors turned out to be a very disappointing. The floor boards are not even in many places (of the 3 rooms installed) and there are very visible nail holes, glue and putty stains throughout the installation. Nam did not do the job or supervise the project. Only after there were problems was he visible and "tried " to correct. Nam did not communicate that he would be out of town for most of the project and that was unfortunate. He and his foreman, are very nice people and I do believe want to please and do a good job. Unfortunately Nam and his team have done an absolutely terrible job in our home, which caused an enormous headache for us. Paid to fix some water damage and redo a kitchen, his team was unbelievably unprofessional. They scratched our 100+ year old floors with their equipment. Left garbage everywhere and pitted out our house and bathroom. Didn't mask off anything and spilled stain all over our floors which I'm still finding. They broke a kitchen cabinet shelf and tried to hide it from us. They were too lazy to mask off floors sufficiently or remove hardware before sanding. They used my own tools repeatedly without asking. They also poorly finished our kitchen and backroom, leaving a rough texture and hair / debris in the finish. He also tried to assure me his team could handle redoing the wood paneling in our living room, which they very nearly ruined. He was incapable of being honest with me on the job many times. I had to personally supervise his team to make sure they weren't constantly cutting corners. Unfortunately his work still frustrates me months after, and will likely need to have it all completely redone. This was a "quick and dirty" job for them. read more

We are over the moon with our bamboo floor installation by Bay Floor Crafters. After meeting with several different contractors, we selected Nam because we knew it would be very easy to work with him. He came across as honest and kind, and with a level of natural integrity that's so important when looking for people to work inside your home. He provided a very competitive quote inclusive of materials, and was very conscientious of our timing. Our house was built in 2005. We had bamboo floors installed in most of the downstairs area with the exception of the two front rooms. The stairs and upstairs were all carpeted. Our goal was to have the entire downstairs in bamboo floors (to match existing), and to have the stairs, upstairs hallway, and master bedroom also done in bamboo. Nam's team came in and made quick work of removing the carpet and prepping the underfloors for new ones. There was a lot of cutting and sawing involved throughout the week, as well as planning of placement of the plans to make it seamless with the existing downstairs floors. His team was meticulous and efficient and the work was done over a total 6 day period. We couldn't be happier with the result. Our floors are beautiful and really lend themselves to opening up the feel of our house. On the dilapidated first floor, they added a new oak floor over Douglass fir, and on the seriously damaged second floor, they repaired, sanded, and refinished, completely changing the look. This project has given my old house a new lease on life. Nam was easy to deal with: communicative, knowledgeable, smart, and helpful. He was mellow when, late in the game, I wavered about the type of wood to use and changed the specs. He was patient and offered great advice about a difficult stain color choice for the splotchy fir upstairs. The team handled the details beautifully. Nam and Francis came on time for a scheduled cleaning. We scheduled work to start at 9am, arrived promptly, and estimated to be done at 5pm but finished around 3pm! I sent some pictures prior to the scheduling so I was able to get an estimate. I had an issue with my floors where the rug left deposits on the hardwood floor. Original cost for the cleaning was $900 but at the end of the job, Nam told me that the job was easier than he thought so final cost was reduced down to $700. We had Nam and his team install flooring in the living room in our downstairs area, which originally only had concrete (from 1938!) Nam is truly a gem to work with for the following reasons: 1. Nam gave us the most reasonable quote among the eight flooring installers that we spoke with 2. Nam was a *lot* more thorough than the other flooring contractors. He pointed the need to level certain sections of the concrete floor, baseboards, different kinds of underlayments, as well as a plan to smoothly transition the flooring to the bedroom and bathroom. Most contractors didn't point out more than 1-2 of these things. He's really thorough and it shows. 3. We were busy before a trip and we asked Nam to bring us some flooring samples. He made a trip to Home Depot and sent us some suggestions. We looked online and asked him to get us some samples from Lumber Liquidators, which he happily did, bringing us samples 2 days later so that we could decide 4. Nam's team did a very thorough job with an attention to detail and craftsmanship. They also hauled away all the trash etc. They started the flooring installation in the morning and it was done by the time I was back from work in the evening. 5. I also want to point out his integrity. Nam originally proposed installing a cork underlayment with a plastic sheet underneath. After installing a quarter of the flooring, he pointed out that there was a slight "plasticky" noise when walking over certain sections of the flooring, and proposed using a different kind of underlayment. He ended up removing all the flooring, going to the store and getting a new underlayment, and installing it all over again. He also pointed out that this underlayment was $100 cheaper, and took that amount off the invoice! 6. Lastly, he was just really easy to work with! Like, a genuinely nice guy :) I really hope that we get this lucky with contractors in the future. Bay Area-based contractors are known to overcharge, nickel and dime, and not pay enough attention to detail while installing stuff (so that it needs repair a couple of years later...). Nam, in comparison, is the best contractor we've ever worked with. He's going to be my "go-to" flooring guy for us as well as anyone we know that needs to do any flooring work in the future! read more
