Woke up without power from PG&E, and the garage door decided to go partially off the rails while…read morebeing manually opened (loose springs), in a precarious way that almost crashed down onto the cars. Alcal had done the original contract work installing the garage door, so I gave them a call to explain the emergency. Within 20 minutes, I received a callback that someone would come take a look between 1-3pm. Lo and behold, at exactly 1pm, field superintendent Martin arrived. This was a pleasant surprise -- when was the last time any contractor arrives at the start of a promised time window?! He took a quick look, got out the tools, and the door was back in shape in 15 minutes. He also tightened the spring tension, lubricated all the joints, and shared tips on garage door maintenance. Since there was no power, he left his contact in case there was any trouble reattaching the garage opener once the power returned. Hours later when PG&E finally got their acts together, I reattached the opener. It opened the door just fine, but had trouble closing it. I gave Martin a call (this was during off-hours) and left a message, to which he immediately called back. He explained that this was due to the tightened springs requiring more force from the opener to close the door, and walked me through the magic button mashing to make the opener "learn" the new force required. 2 minutes later, the garage door was fully functional. This was possibly the best experience I've ever had working with a contracting company. Martin was friendly, professional, and definitely knew his stuff. I would not hesitate to work with him again.

Service Champions contracted Alcal to do an attic clean out, sanitize, and install new insulation…read morefor my home. Alcal did not contact us to let us know the date or time they would perform the job. When the two men arrived, they were rude and unprofessional. They identified a leak in one of our fire sprinklers, preventing them from continuing the installation. My husband looked to see how bad the leak was and noticed that the men had not cleaned or sanitized any part of our attic but had begun installing new insulation. I called Service Champions to explain our concerns, and someone from Alcal called me back and lied that the new insulation was placed there to soak up the water from the leak. However, the men working told us they were leaving it uncovered to dry out, and my husband did not see any insulation near the leak site. Alcal then sent another crew out to finish the job; however, when a Service Champions employee dropped by to inspect their work, he sent them away since they were not properly sanitizing or insulating our attic. Service Champions eventually had an out-of-town Service Champions crew come to do the work. I fully believe that Alcal intended to cut corners and perform a subpar job.

Called and made an appt with someone at Galaxy Locksmith for 2pm the next day. Day of the appt texted to see if they were on their way since it was after 2pm and no one showed up, no one replied to my text either. Called and left voicemail at about 2:15pm. Waited until close to 2:45pm and no one ever showed up or returned my call or text, although my text showed delivered and read. DO NOT use this company unless you want your time wasted. Its a shame, as a local business owner I would think they would be more professional. I would have understood and appreciated a text or call that they weren't going to be able to make it. Definitely moved my schedule around to accommodate meeting them there at 2pm. What a waste of time!

On our 2018 Honda CRV, we got a dashboard message that said the battery in the key fob needed…read morereplacement. I did so and everything was fine. Then we got the message again so we changed the battery in the other fob. And that's where our problems began. After installation of the new battery, the red led light didn't blink. I went out to the car and it didn't do anything when I pressed the fob buttons. Put the old battery back in. No bueno. Our both batteries on the meter. New = 3.4 volts. Old = 2.6 volts. Neither turned on the red light. San Leandro Honda have a condescending look when we asked if the fob was covered by the 30,000 mile power train warranty. My thought? If the fob doesn't work, the power train is useless because you can't start the engine. Anyway, they said that they could try to do some diagnostics but the easiest fix would be to order a new fob and have it programmed. 24-hours and $300+. Oakland Honda said essentially the same thing. $368 for a new key, never mind that we bought the car there. The reason for the cost was the effort in programming the electronics. Please. I used to be an IT guy. You do to have to write a brand new script. You need to do some minor programming and flash the info into the fob. I did some online research and found The Key Shop. I sent a quick email to Rick and he responded that he could take a look at it. I called Rick. He texted me where I could find him in 35 minutes and we drove down. He went right to work, systematically checking everything that there was to check. He noticed that the battery was very difficult to remove. He asked if I was sure that I had used the correct battery. I showed him the battery in our other fob and he noticed that two of the plastic prongs appeared to be pressed down and could be causing the battery not to make good contact. Once he gently unbent the prongs, he reseated the battery and all was good. Total charge for his time and effort? $10. Way better than we could have hoped for. Rick, you THE MAN!

We realized as soon as we got the keys that the front / only door would not lock, meaning we couldn't move anything in. My panic (and lock issue) totally fixed *quickly by Nickolas within a few hours of initial contact with him. He quickly went to work explaining that even tho the door and lock and key were working on their own, the door jam likely "settled" over time as buildings do, meaning he had to drill out a new hole for the deadbolt. But, that's not the best part of my lock repair /locksmith experience.... The part that totally made my day was his immensely kind, welcoming smile and lovely normal demeanor which is often hard to find in this whacky world of grouchy people and flakes. Without a doubt, call him. Price was fair too.
