I have a 2001 BMW Z3 3.0 Roadster that I needed to get smogged. The check engine light was on with P0102-mass or volume air flow sensor"A" circuit low and P0456-EVAP system leak detected (very small leak). It turned out the air mass meter boots needed to be replaced, and they quickly diagnosed this and replaced it. They also diagnosed that I needed 2 oxygen sensors. At each step of the diagnosis they did contact me and let me know what the repairs would be beforehand. They were able to pass my vehicle for smog certification. The parts are warranted for 24 months or 24,000 miles. They also wash your vehicle. These days, good honest service, parts, mechanics and technicians are hard to find. But I did find them at Bavarian Performance. read more

This the 3rd time I have used Bavarian Performance for work on my Porsche Macan. This time it was a failure of the system that lowers and locks the trunk door. Ava was very helpful in explaining what work would be done, and since the car was going to need to stay overnight awaiting a part, they lent me a (really old) 3-series BMW to use until the next morning. As usually, it was a pleasure dealing with them, and enormously easier than driving to San Rafael to my previous mechanic. I don't trust just anyone to work on my Porsche, but I do trust Bavarian. I went in for an oil change and I was really happy with the diagnosis report and to know that I needed a new battery and that it was the original surprisingly after 10 years. When I took it to Porsche it did solve the mirrors not opening and closing like I was told could happen. I do wish that I was told by Bavarian that it would wipe out information in the computer system and after talking to my Porsche Service Mgr.I mentioned that and I was told yes but again told their batteries would be a lot cheaper which is true. I feel that that's very important information that people should know before changing their battery. I couldn't take the chance and could not wipe out the computer information as I had a lot of repairs to do. Porsche told me that that must've been an aftermarket battery which they said cannot be calibrated to the car so you can't get information off of it. So I had to pay double for an OEM battery but in this case I feel it was necessary. Everyone at Bavarian is very nice And the oil change was quick and way less expensive.I would definitely go back! read more

Most of my dash screen went black. We took it to a Mercedes Dealer and were told it would cost $2,497 to fix! I took it BP and Josh did some extensive research on the issue, finding he could get the part for much less, and his labor costs were close to half of what we were offered at the dealer. At 20,000 mi we took it to the Bavarian car place that had like 5 star reviews . For whatever they said they did I'll never know except change the oil . They never checked the fluids at least the one I knew wasn't working right was the windshield wiper fluid . Of course I tried it first thing and still wasn't working . Wasn't until recently I looked myself at the system and it had holes in the hoses . My husband fixed it in min. He had just the right size . But after paying over $400. for an oil change From the start I wasn't thrilled with the service at all . Hence why I'm so happy I was able to find you guys ! The vibe at the other place wasn't a good one. The cockiness of the main guy up there didn't impress me at all. Sorry for the long winded text but I couldn't help but tell you guys how pleased I am ! Go somewhere that knows what their doing and respects your time and money. Initially, Ken appeared highly knowledgeable about my 2000 BMW 528i E39, which I brought to them due to a surging idle issue. Trusting them with my car to them, I anticipated finally resolving the problem, especially considering their $175.88 hourly rate, and suggesting expertise. When Ken informed me that the Throttle Body might be the culprit, albeit admitting they'd only replaced a few, doubts crept in. Still, given their reputation and rates, I assumed my issue might be an uncommon one. Regrettably, the proposed $1100 fix didn't resolve the problem. I sourced out the same part off of a different car to see if it would actually fix my issue but it didn't. Worse, upon retrieving my car, I discovered missing intake pieces, loose hose clamps, and absent nuts and bolts, which only made me more frustrated. I couldn't fathom what I'd paid for--a deteriorated car and a potential $1100 expense! Taking matters into my own hands, I researched extensively and stumbled upon a possible alternator issue. After installing a Bosch alternator for $300 it finally rectified the idle problem entirely. How could a 25-year-old shop miss such a basic diagnosis? It required no specialized tools, just internet sleuthing. Returning to the shop, I relayed my ordeal and solution to Ken, expecting some form of acknowledgment or compensation. Instead, he appeared indifferent, citing their longevity and positive reviews. Disappointed, I realized I wasn't valued as a customer. This experience underscores the importance of finding a BMW shop that not only diagnoses accurately but also respects its customers' investments. I'm out $175.88 and left to rectify THEIR errors and how much is that worth? Bavarian Performance, I hope you read this take note and make amends. read more

I had a problem with a fuel sensor it had to be ordered from Germany. The sensor arrived early and they were able to put it in and clear the codes, and while driving it. The check engine light came back on. I brought it back and they looked into other things. Thanks for all your help. BMW repairs Recently both rear windows failed to operate properly on my 2001 BMW 540iaT. Having owned the car for quite a while, 2001, I knew immediately that the window regulators were the culprit. I've had them replaced before at a cost of around $250/window so I decided to take the car to the local shop that I have used often in the past, Bavarian Performance. Unfortunately, the business has been sold to a new owner, Josh, who seems determined to recoup his purchase price as quickly as possible. He apparently believes that BMW stands for Bugger Me, Willya. His quote of almost $1800 dollars seemed excessive but since I was unaware of the current parts cost (his quote, $1100) and labor (another $750), I gave him the okay to continue since a car with both windows permanently open was not a great situation. I then decided to do a little web research. After a few minutes, I located this link: https://www.carparts.com/details/BMW/530i/Replacement/2001-2003/SET-REPB491715.html?TID=gglpla&origin=pla&utm_source=google&utm_medium=pla&utm_campaign=20263781461&&&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsonq6ofdgAMVpCmtBh06Igq7EAQYASABEgKXqvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds The repair parts for both left and right regulators was $82 and this wasn't the cheapest place!! These parts came with a LIFETIME warranty while Bavarian Performance only offered 2 years. Even with overnight shipping and a 2x markup, the cost would be less than $300. So the $1100 price represents over a 350% markup! With that tidbit, I decided to see if I could find out how complicated the replacement was. Naturally, YouTube had the answer. The YouTube link: https://youtu.be/c4MjKCfuXS8 shows the whole process start to finish. Even with the mechanic in the video talking, none stop (there are no cut aways) it took him less than 1/2 hour. So to be generous, I'll allow 1 hour per side, so a total of 2 hours for both sides. So, $735 labor works out to $370/hour!!! Nice work if you can get it! When I went to pick up the car, the windows did indeed work. Josh "generously" gave me $250 off. So, a job that generously, should have cost $750 ($300 parts with generous margin + $450 labor $225/hour!)) cost me $1630!. Obviously, this is the LAST time my car will go to this shop. It's sad to see a good shop go so wrong. Per Josh's comments (see below), yes I did approve the quote I was given based on the fair & equitable way I had been treated by the previous owner. It was only after approving the repairs, that I was surprised by the huge disparity between this repair and those that I've had done in the past. As the post notes, I did not pull numbers from thin air. These are numbers easily verified. I also called the shop that regularly works on my other car (something I should have done first in retrospect) and they quoted $713, tax included with a 2 year warranty. So this review is really a caveat emptor, buyer beware. read more

Took my 2013 BMW 328 Convertible in for a brake job. Of course, there were a number of other things that needed to be fixed. But Ken discussed each one with me and told me the rationale behind the repair. I agreed with everything but chose to put off transmission service off for another few thousand miles. Because of the need for a new tire the car was available the day after I brought it in (first thing in the morning). On the day I was supposed to bring the car in, I fell ill but Ken was courteous enough to reschedule me for the following day.
