I've not been fly fishing in over 10 years - a circumstance that was dictated by work conditions/schedules and finances. I stopped off at The Red Shed to purchase my Virginia fishing licenses: I bought the general freshwater license, trout license, and National Forest stamp. The Red Shed is an interesting little business - part of the Clark Brothers Gun shop emporium. The Red Shed sells licenses, fishing equipment, bait, some hunting gear, and lots of touristy knick-knacks.

I went in this store a few weeks back, I went to Sportsman's on Plank Road for a specific pair of binoculars. I asked three different employees for help getting the binoculars since they were locked up. All three deferred to someone else. I left the store and went to Academy Sports down the street and bought the product. I had quite a few things in my basket that I wanted to buy from Sportsman's as well. But they found their way back to the shelf.

Recently I bought a rifle at the Fredericsksburg location, intending to pick up the weapon on 30 June. Upon arrival, my weapon was ready but the Va State Police check was not processed due to horrendous volume of checks being done before new VA laws went into effect on 1 July 2026. So, I had to go home, driving back 50 miles to where I live, and then returned a few days later when Sportsmans called me and told me my VSP check was complete. I picked up my weapon in a few minutes and went home, as these guys are very fast and efficient in their processes to buy guns. Two days after I got home, I received a credit for 50 dollars for my purchase, which I can assume was due to not getting my weapon when they told me to come to the store and pick it up. I did not ask for any refund nor did I suggest any, but Sportsmans gave me one anyway. This is the type of business model that makes life long customers and shows a level of caring about people that I do not see often in any business. Thanks for the 50 bucks and it was a pleasure doing business with this location. (in case anyone is wondering, I am a retired Fed with a LEOSA permit, so there is never any issue with a VSP check for a firearm purchase, with 47 seconds the least amount of time I had to wait for my check to clear the VSP).

I arrived today and saw some on the bottom of the glass display back in fishing. There was another brand on top of the Moebas so I couldn't see if there were any others besides the, "Mimizu" option. There was one gentleman helping two men with some reels and braided line. After a few minutes he went over and told another staff member that he had another customer that needed help. The other staff member was leaning surf rods up against a shelf to the right of where I was standing. He is a white guy, buzz cut with some thinning on top, he had, "a chew" in which he spit into a soda bottle, green shirt and a mustache. He came up front and I spoke. I asked him if there were any other color Moeba down below. He replied, "This is all we have!" before I was even finished speaking. I was going to say that I couldn't see completely what was on the bottom of the display because there was another brand of similar lures on top. I told him that, and he looked down to see. He was not friendly or pleasant at all like Gary and Justin have been in the last two recent trips. Very short and he seemed annoyed. I asked for two of the Mimizus, and told him I was going to continue shopping. I dealt with similar reactions at the old location, which I why I stopped coming to Green Top for several years. I too know what it's like to be busy at work, but if I was short and rude to my patients before their procedures, I would definitely be in trouble. I hope someone passes along some customer service tips to this individual. Thanks for stocking the Moebas, and taking care of your fishing customers. John Futrell

I will not return to this shop. Personal Space: An employee snuck up right behind me without warning. He stood within arm's reach standing right over me while I bending over looking at the glass display. Aggressive Staff: The owner/worker acted way too pushy and hostile. He interrogated me instead of waiting behind the counter like normal staff. Lost Sale: I was ready to buy a pistol today. The aggressive behavior made me completely uncomfortable and ruined the sale. Some staff members need basic customer service training. Walking up silently on customers while open-carrying and being all aggressive is unsettling, not helpful.
