After lunching with a girlfriend in Old Saybrook, we were driving down Main Street when she said "hey, that's where my husband and daughter got their matching tattoos. Do you want to check it out? In we went and I told the gentleman at the counter what I wanted. He said I could walk in anytime for that. Out from the back came Jim who said he could do it right now. I told him what I wanted, and 5 minutes later he came back with a couple of sketches. I tweaked the font and toyed with the pink ribbon, and boom...15 minutes later I had my tattoo-exactly how I wanted it, where I wanted it, and without breaking the bank! Jim even said I could come back if down the road I wanted to outline the ribbon; that's customer service. When I find an artist who does clean work that matches the vision of what I wanted why would I go anywhere else. At Goodspeed, George, Jeremy and Clarissa interact like you are visiting them at home. The decor of the shop is eclectic. The music is surprising. George has done 4 of my six tattoos. Once you develop a level of trust with an artist, getting ink done is much more enjoyable. On my most recent visit I brought my daughter for her first tattoo. Both of us are super happy with how the tattoos came out. Goodspeed is a great little local shop for getting your ink done. But a tattoo shop is not a salon or preschool. Be ready for the chaotic energy that goes with artists creating permanent pieces of art on people's bodies. I don't have plans for any new work, yet. But when I do, Goodspeed is where I will go.

I have been in CT for 4 years. I refused to get tattooed by anyone out here bc I couldn't find anyone good as in NY. But Mari is damn good. What I personally look for in a tattoo is clean lines. That seems like a given but a lot of people either can't do it, or it blows out (expands in your skin). Also I said I would never ever ever in my life get lettering. I am basically covered in what looks like a garden. No lettering. Just no. But, never say never. Not only did I get lettering, but I got it here in Connecticut. And I wish I could have handed her a $100 bill as a tip. Aside from the tattoo and it's quality, Mari made me feel comfortable. She even gave me some candy to double up on the slim chance I would pass out bc it had to go over a bone for a brief minute. Thank you Mari, I really hope I am spelling your name correctly. She goes by @therealsashasmilesz on IG I may or may not choose to post a photo of it bc it is a personal tattoo but just look at her work on IG. She can 100% no doubt, tattoo her butt off. He was really quick with his hands on drawing up my tat. I really appreciate how attentive he was and how he made sure I was doing okay while working on me. It came out beautiful than I hoped for. However she was quite cold in demeanor and she just seemed like she couldn't care less about me. She lacked good customer service skills which put me off at first but I didn't mind. The tattooing process was perfect and I loved how it came out. Then she decided to not put anything on the tattoo and wanted me for it to heal naturally. She did this suddenly without any warning and she didn't ask my consent before she did this. She said this is how she tattoos all people who get their first tattoos because that's how she wants them to get used to the healing process. This was very disheartening because I asked the person at the front desk that I wanted Derma-shield or Tegaderm for my tattoo and I did not want it to heal naturally. Clearly the front desk person did not inform Elisha beforehand and this upsetting because as the customer, I have the right to request what I want to do with my body. I wanted this adhesive on me during the healing process because I wanted to be on the safe side and I didn't want my tattoo to get infected. When I asked for Tegaderm to be applied onto my tattoo specifically, she said she would prefer for the tattoo to heal naturally. Then I persisted and asked for the derma-shield and then she relented and applied the derma-shield. Although she didn't wipe down the area properly and there were bits of Vaseline on the tattoo (you never put Vaseline on a tattoo and it's because Vaseline traps bacteria in the wound of the tattoo which increases the likelihood of infection). I left disappointed and upset and I didn't pay attention to the process perfectly because it was my first time tattooed and this all happened very fast. Elisha said I could call her afterwards to ask any questions about the tattoo and I did. I called her for 5 minutes and she answered my questions. I forgot to ask some other questions and I asked them and she then became quite rude. She told me to stop asking so many questions and that it would be fine despite her horribly messing up the Tegaderm application. I really disliked her attitude and her impulsivity, arrogance, coldness, and carelessness ruined the tattooing experience for me. Avoid this tattoo parlor at all costs because this is not the right place for anyone to get a tattoo.

I do recommend going here for a piercing but I don't recommend doing any hoop until your piercing is healed because it can effect the tissue in your skin and you don't want to damage anything (just trying to help with an infection as well.). I called to see if he could change the piercing, he didn't return my call, I went to "Stay True Piercing" in Newington and they were astonished by what the piercer at Transcend did to me. Said the method as from 1992. I was in pain with the most uncomfortable piercing. transcend may be good for,tattoos, but go to a reputable piercer. do NOT go here.
