Bath Bun and Tea Shoppe - tea tower - Tea Rooms Near Me - Bath, BAS

Situated in a blissfully shady square, Bath Bun and Tea Shoppe hit the sweet spot for us on this sunny day! We were greeted outside where a casual queue formed, and seated at a table for two. Within a short while, a shade covered table opened and he moved us as it was quite warm in full sun on this May day. Table service is offered here. We ordered cold and hot teas along with strawberry buns, which we'd been eyeing as they were brought to other tables. The bun was cloud light but still had a satisfying chew. The strawberries were lightly sweetened but not so much that the berry flavor was lost. The layer of cream was enough to coat the bun and give a bed to the strawberries, with a dollop on the side for good measure. I would've liked a bit more strawberry to bun ratio, but on the whole, it was delightful. This was a refreshing stop for us and gave us the pick-me-up we needed to continue our Bath explorations! read more

Highlights: a quaint, charming little spot in Bath that's a locals destination for afternoon team Two orders of the classic afternoon tea was more than enough for two of us - we didn't even make it to the cake and had to get it for takeaway. But the sandwiches (we swapped the filling for the bacon, Brie and cranberry version) were so flavorful and refreshing and the scones buttery and flaky. For the Americans reading this, the clotted cream it comes with is just a more spreadable butter - I definitely thought it would be chunky like cottage cheese . There was plenty of water for tea and even a nice amount to refill. The other customers seemed to largely be locals so it didn't seem like a tourist trap. Not something you will necessarily get in and out of quickly but that's kind of the beauty of afternoon tea, isn't it? The steps upstairs can be a bit steep so be prepared if you have someone with mobility issues but there are some seats on the ground level and outside. A must see if you want a traditional tea experience that's accessible and doesn't require a reservation. read more

The famous "Bath Bun" is perhaps the most overrated and underwhelming tourist food product in the History of Ever. Its like a good looking potential spouse on a dating app...but the date itself ends up disappointing... £9 The Traditional Bath Bun Tea. Bath Bun...its honestly just a slightly sweeter bread roll, topped with sugar and raisins. Quite bland overall, even after adding clotted cream and raspberry jam. I can't remember what tea I got, but it was delightful enough. Sorry Bath Bun... £9 The Traditional Cream Tea...a classic British Scone, thick, fluffy, and buttery accompanied by quintessential clotted cream and raspberry jam...lovely and tasty! My wife chose better than I! There was no wait at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon, and the staff were all very friendly, and the traditional 1800s ambience was very old British and charming. read more

We stopped in for lunch and had a wonderful time. I went with one of the daily specials -a Cornish pasty with salad which turned out to also come with coleslaw. My only complaint if it can even be called that is the giant portion size. I could've shared this with my partner. It's great if you have a large appetite though. My partner got a brie and ham sandwich with soup of the day. The tomato soup was a little bland and we didn't really taste the pepper. The sandwich was very straightforward -brie and ham with no frills. The portion size was good for a lighter lunch. We both had different teas and both the citrus and English breakfast were very nice. Service was great and we were seated promptly after coming in. Servers checked in on us during our lunch so that was great. After eating you pay downstairs. The tea house is very warmly decorated and I liked the homey ambience very much. read more

This is the place! Amazing high tea out on Abbey Green, served with a smile. And honestly their buns are way better than the other place.

Essentially everything around the vicinity of the Roman Bath is a tourist trap, but nonetheless we passed by saw this old English tea house with some nice table setting and decide to have some afternoon tea. Hostess in the front was rude and flustered, asked to be seated in the back she told us no and just wanted us to sit at the tight space in the front. She reluctantly sat us upstairs, which was a nice place with the old English decor. One order of traditional tea set and the other was a classic afternoon tea set which came with a pot of Earl Grey, bun, scone and sandwiches. The traditional only have a cup of tea of your choosing and a scone or bun. The food itself wasn't bad the bun was good a long with the scone. Tea was good. As we settled in the waitress was more friendly, but after a while the kitchen over burnt something and the fire alarm went off and we have to evacuate. Haha I wouldn't recommend this place unless u really want to try some tea and bun. read more

Definitely worth the visit. The service was quick and friendly. The food was tasty. I got best of both worlds with the two bun meal. One with Salmon and one with Jam and butter. Had an traditional, yet eclectic, feel inside. Quite cozy tho but did not feel cramped. We will definitely be back when we are in Bathe. read more

This place looks super cute. I sat outside and enquired about their high tea, and told the server I knew what I wanted. She said give me a tick I will be right back, and went inside. And then she wasn't. After waiting over five minutes, I left as I was seriously hungry. However I would come back another time as I saw another patron with a high tea and it looked really nice. The location is also very central and very near the Bath pump rooms, and Bath Abbey. read more

We happened upon this little place on our fourth day visiting the U.K. We needed a quick bite (quick service seems hard to find in the U.K.) before we had to get back to our bus. This place delivered. It was a slow time to visit, thankfully. We each had a cream tea. The scones were probably the best I had in my entire ten days of vacation, and I ate a LOT of scones. The service was pleasant and quick. The environment is simply darling. It's the cutest little place with flowered wall paper and tablecloths. I found the whole experience very charming. They started to get really busy just before we left, which worried me. But we paid at the door and were on our way. Highly recommend if you ever get the fortune of visiting this cute city. read more

The Bath Bun and Tea Shop was a nice little stop for lunch right in town during the SUPER busy Christmas market. We popped in for a quick bite and enjoyed ourselves. I ordered the soup and sandwich and it was very good. Today's soup was tomato and pepper soup and I matched it up with the ham and brie sandwich. Early afternoon cup of coffee washed it all down nicely. Quaint little shop with quite some history. We were able to be seated almost right away. read more

Bath Buns and Tea Shoppe was a welcome rest after visiting the Roman Baths and Bath Abbey. The Shoppe is elegant and traditional, with the soft, warm buns continuing the tradition that dates back to the 18th Century. The buns are served on fine china with delicious butter. They offer is a good selection of teas, as well as their well-known Somerset Cream Tea. There are other items on their menu, but I recommend the infamous Bath Bun. Interestingly, the staff are dressed in period costumes, which makes the experience more enjoyable. read more

Came in for Lunch with my good lady. What a mistake. On a good note, the food was good. But everything else was utter crap. I felt sorry for the waitresses. There they were in little polyester, black and white period waitress dresses. They all looked unsettled. The male waiter had a black shirt and black trousers. He had a hole in his left breast shirt pocket. Should he not be dressed as a butler. He had to use my pen. As his had stopped working. The Cafe was dirty behind the counter. I too like the blonde lady behind me needed the toilet, and overheard a conversation with the main man. She told him that the toilet was unclean and had No soap. I went up and the man was cleaning the toilet. He left the room. I entered, did my business, and noticed that it still had no soap. We got to the end of our food. And asked for the bill. Do you take Card, nope. Cash or Cheque. Who carries a cheque book around. Its called contactless. Get with the times. I believe the cafe could do with a re-vamp. Spend £5000. And then spend some money on buying some hand soap. On another note. We looked at other reviews for this cafe on trip advisor. Oh my word, the Replies of comments by the cafe are vile and horrible. The owner clearly doesn't want to improve his business and is not happy to agree to the comments. read more

I went to this small tea room around noon, not too busy at all. Walked in, and what seemed to be the head waitress before greeting me said " cash only". Ok, no hello, and I then requested to sit outside as the inside was very dark and seemed very hodge podge outdated. When I went to sit outside, there were already people (non-customers) sitting in the seats. When I told the waitress, she did not attempt to ask them to leave , rather she told me I would have to sit inside. That aside, I ordered the cream tea for £7.50. Tea was in a bag, and I was given another open pot of hot water, as the pot was extremely small. I have never been to a tea house that serves tea in metal kettles, didn't seem like it lived up to its name as a proper tea shop. Scone was ok, very crumbly. The jam was not homemade but rather came in a little jar, something I could have purchased myself. When I went to pay, the waitress said " just an FYI, but any gratuity is not included in the bill". While I understand this is a tourist trap near the Roman Baths, tipping is optional and I felt as though she was attempting to trick an American as she knows tipping is a large part of our culture - she did not make this comment to any of the other 15+ guests that went to the register. Furthermore, any tipping at all is always determined by the level of service that is received; and what she delivered was not entirely worth any tip at all seeing as she only dropped off the tea then walked away. Overall- better places to visit in Bath for tea. The steep prices, dingy decor, and poor service are certainly lacking. read more

Very "cute" restaurant with a lot of character. I ordered the pea soup with sandwich, which was a ham, brie, and cranberry jam. Delicious. My fiancé ordered the baguette sandwich, which she loved because the baguette wasn't too hard and wasn't too soft. read more
