For the Americans reading this, the clotted cream it comes with is just a more spreadable butter - I definitely thought it would be chunky like cottage cheese . There was plenty of water for tea and even a nice amount to refill. The other customers seemed to largely be locals so it didn't seem like a tourist trap. Not something you will necessarily get in and out of quickly but that's kind of the beauty of afternoon tea, isn't it? The steps upstairs can be a bit steep so be prepared if you have someone with mobility issues but there are some seats on the ground level and outside. A must see if you want a traditional tea experience that's accessible and doesn't require a reservation.

Sitting outside you have a beautiful view of the London Plane Tree which is from the nineteenth century, the main attraction of the Abbey. If you are fortunate enough to get a seat outside you'll also be able to hear live music from street performers in the Abbey Churchyard.
