Beef tacos
Jamie P.

Batey's is a local gem. Everyone gets hooked on their sugarcane drinks. They even have a sugarcane press in the middle of the restaurant and you can watch them make it. While enjoying the passion fruit mojito with a sugarcane stick, we also ordered the beef tacos, shrimp tacos, and charcuterie board. It was more than enough food for 2 ppl. We were super impressed by the board (see pic) and the highlight was the shrimp tacos. Lightly fried, soft and delicious. We also enjoyed the sauces that came with the tacos. Don't miss out on this local hangout!

This is a wonderful spot to hit up when visiting Tulum. We went as soon as we got off the plane because we were obviously starving. This meant going mid day which was perfect for us but if you are looking for a lively crowd with live music playing, then come back in the evening. The staff was super friendly and though we speak a little Spanish we are by not means close to being fluent. We are more like toddler stage. Anyways, that was a problem here and honestly not a problem in most of Tulum. We got tacos which were very delicious! We also of course got a mojito which is what this establishment is known for. They were incredible! Like you need to go here for mojito!!! They put fresh sugar cane in your drink so that was cool. You even see them grinding it, which I thought was awesome! This is truly a fun and unique spot.

This place was awesome and we were recommended it by the locals! We both got tacos, I got Cochinita Pebil and she got pollo, and we had sugar cane juice and a mojito. Everything here was so cool!

Local spot with a heavy mix tourists. Life music is free with no cover. Came on a Friday evening for a drink and jazz. We only ordered drinks so didn't get to try the food. Pros: - local spot with live music - wholesome and energetic vibe with people getting up to dance and strangers conversing together (shared tables and combined seating) - service is prompt and attentive considering the sheer number of patrons Notes: - can be a bit cramped since there's no real crowd control and self-seating mostly

They have great live music and vegan tacos. We got here at 915 and snagged one of the last table (which was with a few others already there.) The music was top notch spanish guitar and dancers who started around 930. The volume was a good level too where you could hear them well throughout the restraunt but it wasn't too loud. This was a Wednesday so it might fill up faster on the weekends. The vegan tacos were a soy mix with pineapple that added a nice little bit of acidity to the savory tacos. The sauce and onion mixed well as well. Overall a great place for a date or just a bite with great entertainment.

Fun place to enjoy mojitos while listening to live music but the food is just average. Cash only. Decent service.

What's not to like? No price gauging here - and the quality of drinks and snacks is excellent. Like everyone else said, go for the mojito (classic) or two!.. and take a gander at the cool art work. At nighttime you'll find live music catering to the cigarette chiefing tatted crowd. The staff is amazing and really seem to like one another and this establishment. Cheers

Tricolor mojito : watermelon, mint and lime

We stopped in specifically for the mojitos! They are made from fresh fruit and sugarcane and are only $100 pesos (about $5). It's a great little spot with a hand cranked press mounted to a Volkswagen Beetle for juicing the sugarcane that goes into the mojitos. We ordered the passion fruit mojito and the tri-color (watermelon, mint and lime) mojito. Both were deliciously refreshing and tasty with lots of fruit. Our server was great, we would definitely return for more mojitos.

Literally THE BEST MOJITOS. Now my dilemma is getting this again without coming all the way to Tulum. Afraid that is not possible... we went on a weekday night and this place was packed with locals and tourists alike. Love the little show and live music they had that night. No frills, just amazing drinks and great vibes. Miss this place already!

Great bar/restaurant in the center of tulum. Everyone working was very friendly and welcoming. Inside the bar itself they had a large space with live music playing. Nice part about the place was that the owner was there and took us into the main kitchen area to show how they hand crank sugar cane for their drinks and talked to us about the bar. Overall, this is a great spot to come grab drinks in tulum and I would def come back here next time in tulum

Super fun spot! Stopped in for a mojito while in town. Drink was good, live music was awesome and prices were reasonable.

Loved stopping by Batey! It was packed but we were welcomed to a table with another group and had a blast. The mojitos are great and a wonderful value. The live music is also electric! Other bars and restaurants in the area try to compete and can grab some stragglers waiting outside but it's worth sticking it out and settling in for a more authentic experience.

Loved everything about this place! Live music, great mojitos, general service. Nothing to complain about

All the drinks and pizza we ordered were absolutely delicious. I was surprised a place like this existed in Tulum - an aesthetic pizza bar that rivals, if not exceeds, some of the best similar spots in LA. Even the music was on point, everyone here was drinking and having a good time but I especially love how all patrons were comfortably spaced out. Service also warrants 5 stars itself. Our server was a gentleman but also fun to talk to. He was super accommodating and attentive, but also left us alone during the right moments. Definitely coming back here when I visit Tulum again!

The space was gorgeous... like rustic, jungle chic. It seemed a little out of place on the main strip (it looked very different than most of the other places), but that's what drew us in. They had a menu of inventive cocktails that featured local ingredients (guanabana, mango, coconut milk) and lots of different types of mezcal. The drinks were delicious and the music and atmosphere was awesome. It felt like a Brooklyn bar transplanted into Mexico (sorry if I sound like a snobby New Yorker :-)). There were only 2 other people in the bar, the bartender, Ulysses, and the owner (I think), Jonathan. They were 2 super friendly young guys. They gave us a brief history of Mezcal and told us all about the different local ingredients they used. I think this place only opened a few months ago. It seemed like business may be a bit slow, but we drove by late at night a few days later and it was pretty crowded. The crowd was all tourists, European expats, etc... no locals... I didn't even see any locals working there. I loved the bar, but I love supporting locals, so I feel a little odd giving such a colonized place 5 stars, so solid 4 stars from me. If you're looking for a cool a cool bar to have a tasty cocktail, definitely check it out.

There's someone doing face jewels as soon as you walk in, not sure how much it was but it looked super pretty. There's a system to get drinks where you reload your wristband with money and they scan it every time you order a drink to deduct each transaction. The only bad thing is that whatever you have left on the bracelet goes to waste because you can't get your money back. Each drink was kinda pricey, between $30-$40. I would suggest pre-gaming before coming or buying a table. The music was good, it was a lot of tiki tiki. There is a beach view from the dance floor. Everyone was very nice, the staff were extremely busy but attended each customer in a timely manner. I ordered an espresso martini, the presentation was great but the taste wasn't as balanced as I preferred. It taste more like tequila rather than coffee. I then switched back to vodka/sodas. I highly recommend you check this spot out for a night of dancing and fun!
