Local spot with a heavy mix tourists. Life music is free with no cover. Came on a Friday evening for a drink and jazz. We only ordered drinks so didn't get to try the food. Pros: - local spot with live music - wholesome and energetic vibe with people getting up to dance and strangers conversing together (shared tables and combined seating) - service is prompt and attentive considering the sheer number of patrons Notes: - can be a bit cramped since there's no real crowd control and self-seating mostly
They have great live music and vegan tacos. We got here at 915 and snagged one of the last table (which was with a few others already there.) The music was top notch spanish guitar and dancers who started around 930. The volume was a good level too where you could hear them well throughout the restraunt but it wasn't too loud. This was a Wednesday so it might fill up faster on the weekends. The vegan tacos were a soy mix with pineapple that added a nice little bit of acidity to the savory tacos. The sauce and onion mixed well as well. Overall a great place for a date or just a bite with great entertainment.
What's not to like? No price gauging here - and the quality of drinks and snacks is excellent. Like everyone else said, go for the mojito (classic) or two!.. and take a gander at the cool art work. At nighttime you'll find live music catering to the cigarette chiefing tatted crowd. The staff is amazing and really seem to like one another and this establishment. Cheers
We stopped in specifically for the mojitos! They are made from fresh fruit and sugarcane and are only $100 pesos (about $5). It's a great little spot with a hand cranked press mounted to a Volkswagen Beetle for juicing the sugarcane that goes into the mojitos. We ordered the passion fruit mojito and the tri-color (watermelon, mint and lime) mojito. Both were deliciously refreshing and tasty with lots of fruit. Our server was great, we would definitely return for more mojitos.
Literally THE BEST MOJITOS. Now my dilemma is getting this again without coming all the way to Tulum. Afraid that is not possible... we went on a weekday night and this place was packed with locals and tourists alike. Love the little show and live music they had that night. No frills, just amazing drinks and great vibes. Miss this place already!

Nice part about the place was that the owner was there and took us into the main kitchen area to show how they hand crank sugar cane for their drinks and talked to us about the bar. Overall, this is a great spot to come grab drinks in tulum and I would def come back here next time in tulum
Loved stopping by Batey! It was packed but we were welcomed to a table with another group and had a blast. The mojitos are great and a wonderful value. The live music is also electric! Other bars and restaurants in the area try to compete and can grab some stragglers waiting outside but it's worth sticking it out and settling in for a more authentic experience.
Fun bar in downtown Tulum with a good vibe. They had live music in the back of the bar and always had people dancing. Drinks weren't as expensive as other spots and they seem to be known for their mojitos but also the guarapos, sugarcane drinks, and they were soo good with different flavors on the menu. I tried both the passion fruit & orange and lime & basil. They cut the sugarcane right at the bar in an old VW car. Side note: cash only!!
A great location in Centro makes for excellent people watching if you sit up front. Music in the back varies, but it's always something fun. There was a guy on accordion one night who was fire. The menu won't disappoint -- it may be small but it's definitely delicious. The hot sauce from Valladolid is hot. Really hot. Really, really hot. Make sure you try it. Service is prompt even when it's busy, so don't let the crowd dissuade your decision for a quick drink. Oh, and I know it's not the typical Tulum mezcalita suggestion but the mojitos are old school legit with fresh cane. Check the Volkswagen. You'll know what I mean... read more
Batey's is a local gem. Everyone gets hooked on their sugarcane drinks. They even have a sugarcane press in the middle of the restaurant and you can watch them make it. While enjoying the passion fruit mojito with a sugarcane stick, we also ordered the beef tacos, shrimp tacos, and charcuterie board. It was more than enough food for 2 ppl. We were super impressed by the board (see pic) and the highlight was the shrimp tacos. Lightly fried, soft and delicious. We also enjoyed the sauces that came with the tacos. This is a wonderful spot to hit up when visiting Tulum. We went as soon as we got off the plane because we were obviously starving. This meant going mid day which was perfect for us but if you are looking for a lively crowd with live music playing, then come back in the evening. The staff was super friendly and though we speak a little Spanish we are by not means close to being fluent. We are more like toddler stage. Anyways, that was a problem here and honestly not a problem in most of Tulum. We got tacos which were very delicious! We also of course got a mojito which is what this establishment is known for. They were incredible! Like you need to go here for mojito!!! They put fresh sugar cane in your drink so that was cool. You even see them grinding it, which I thought was awesome! This is truly a fun and unique spot. read more

Batey was the place to get mojitos. We came to check it out ourselves. The place is usually packed whenever we walk by. They have live music daily around 7pm. We came by and grab a seat towards the back where the stage and music is. We love the vibe there. It's really laid back and the music is nice. It was Jazz one night. They cut sugar cane in the VW bug and they even let a few girls do it one of the nights we were there. I got the passion fruit mojito and it was nice and refreshing. They aren't as sweet as the typical mojitos since it's made with sugar cane. But I love the balance and mint along with the tart passion fruit. Hubs got a beer and we hung out there for a while. I got the habanero next and it was good with little bit of spice coming through. The servers are all friendly and they remember us coming back a few times. The only complain I have is all the people smoking in there and you share tables. I don't really enjoy increasing my chance of lung cancer so we decided to leave. But it's definitely worth checking out until the smoke consumes you. read more
This was a cool little bar. I took my friends here because they were known for their fresh sugar cane mojitos. I ordered an orange and ginger sugar cane juice and it was okay, just tasted like a regular juice if we're being honest. Service was great and very friendly. read more
Great music, lots of energy, and some amazing drinks! I stopped here every night for at least one drink. There was a live band playing on Saturday night and they performed a range of classic covers. The drink selection was nice and our server took plenty of time to address questions and make recommendations on what to try. My recommendation if you're going for a cocktail is to try the margarita especial! This was by far my favorite. If you're in the mood for shots I would recommend the mezcal with orange and rock salt. My only drawback about this spot is as the tables and chairs are small and low. If you are at or above 6 ft tall the seating can be very uncomfortable. If possible it's better to stand at the bar or find seating with more table space. If you're in Tulum and want some local culture you should definitely check this place out! SN: right across the street are plenty of taco stands with amazing tacos! read more

Our favorite bar in tulum! We loved it so much that we came back here more than once. Met a lovely couple and they came from the beachfront to meet with us in the city center where this place was located. This place had LIVE MUSIC the whole time and changing genres every few hours. The mojitos has fresh sugar cane and we're so good. read more
Cool place to go to for mojitos...or should I say the go to place to go to in Tulum for mojitos! I ordered the passion fruit one and it was not as passion fruity as I had imagined but good nonetheless. I love the beetle they have in the restaurant and the fact that they grind the sugarcane when they make the drink. The staff was really chill and they also have live music. Best mojitos ever. My husband and I ordered the Tricolor (watermelon, spearmint and lemon), Maracuya (passion fruit, spearmint and lemon) and Azteca (prickly pear, spearmint, lemon and cactus) mojitos. You can choose the rum and they were happy to make suggestions for which rum would go best with each mojito. The fresh sugarcane makes their mojitos unique. Super refreshing and reasonably priced at 100-120 pesos depending which rum you choose. The staff was friendly and genuinely seemed to enjoy working at Batey. The also had live music during they day which made it the perfect spot to cool down and get out of the heat. Stop by after brunch at Ki'bok next door! Will definitely return next time I'm in Tulum. read more

Yummy mojitos! Great for people watching, affordable drinks and some live music. Affordable compared to some of the places nearby. I really like the fresh sugar cane they use and the flavors. For me, the passion fruit hit the spot and i accidentally ordered 3 ;) my girlfriend enjoyed the watermelon then switched to the ginger but watermelon was the best according to her! read more
Super impressed by this place. I told the bartender we came for the fresh pressed sugar cane mojitos. He said- come with me! He brought us to the sugar cane press! He then tossed us some big Mexican sombreros and said photo op! He took a pic of us next to the VW bug and the sugar cane press. Awesome! We chose a table near the stage because the band was setting up. Our server came by with tons of menus. One was mojitos, the others were drinks and food. The food menu was surprisingly varied and healthy! But since we had just eaten, we went with drinks only. I had the habanero sour orange mojito. I was hesitant to get it because habaneros are so hot. But the waiter said he never notices the habanero. So I went for it. It was tasty and not very spicy at all but you could detect the burn in your throat a little. Our server was around often for refills. He also lit our table candle which was nice. The band started to play and everyone was singing! A cute couple started salsa dancing. They were so good, the band invited them on stage! Such a fun spot to hang out. Lots to look at. There are bathrooms. It's cash only, heads up. No street parking. Bike parking is across the street. Small Place but plenty of seating. Randoms will join you at your table- it's communal. read more

Looking for a place to enjoy some live music with a well-made mojito? Look no further. We passed by Batey each night of our 3-night stay in Tulum (Wed-Sat) and quickly discovered this was THE place to be, no matter the day of the week. We came on a Thursday and the place was packed, with patrons spilling out onto the street. We were able to snag a table in the back by the stage, where we ordered mojitos (made with freshly squeezed sugar cane juice--a must) and guac (delicious, but standard). The atmosphere was laid-back and the staff are friendly. The band played Mexican music; the perfect soundtrack for a night out in Tulum. A couple downsides: 1) Service can be painfully slow. Our waiter was difficult to flag down and wait times were very long. When we were about to leave, we got up to find him so we could pay because we didn't want to wait around. We found him chatting up the bartender. 2) Smoking is allowed inside the dining area. read more

This place is great if you want a good Mexican breakfast. Super chill vibe, the inside is so cute in its own way and the staff is super nice. I tried the latte and it was 10/10 and the chilaquiles were also amazing. All 4 of our group was happy with the place and food. read more

I see why Batey has so much buzz BUT I've definitely had better service. I was here late night on a Tuesday. It was super packed, standing room only for the first couple of mins... then luckily a party left so my friends and I grabbed the table. After sitting for a while my friend had to ask the bartender to send over a waiter. We ordered a few Mojitos and food. I first ordered the Azteca but was told this is a seasonal drink and not available. *that should be noted on menu or removed when not in season*. I then went with the Maracuaya. The waiter comes back with the drinks and then tells us that the kitchen closed at 11. When we placed our order it was 11:40... well past 11, so why was our order even taken? Was he not aware of the time the kitchen closes? *super annoying* My Mojito was tasty but not strong at all. The live band is a nice touch. Once the bill arrived we asked the waiter to convert to USD. Apparently the amount he told us was incorrect because as we were getting ready to leave he said that he converted wrong & we owed additional money. Save yourself the headache and change your Dollars to Pesos. read more
