Fun place to take the kids. The guys at the counter were not very good at selling the experience to first time customers as ourselves. I just wonder if the owner knows that he's paying two people to do absolutely nothing. Asking them for anything in terms of service in their arcade was like pulling teeth. They were glued to their cell phones the entire time. I had to ask them where the cue ball was for the table, I had to ask them what to do when the air hockey puck got stuck--mind you, they overheard everything I was dealing with but would rather wait til I approached them vs. anticipating our needs even after witnessing our confusion. Sometimes when life has you down; you just have to hit something. Perhaps it is a wall, a pillow, a person... okay, obviously you shouldn't be hitting others (unless they started it!). For those who are baseball lovers or simply athletically inclined, this could mean hitting some balls at batting cages. Sadly, LA isn't really the prime batting cage locale for those needing to let off steam or practice their swings. Luckily, the Valley has a couple with The Batcade being a well-known spot in Burbank. The Batcade is advertised as an ultimate fun zone: batting cages, arcade, and snack bar. The prime spot for children's parties and baseball swingin' fun. Well, let me burst your bubble now because The Batcade is highly disappointing from what is expected. Yes, the aforementioned accommodations are available but even though I don't like using this as a descriptor: it is 'ghetto'. To begin your ball crushing session, one has to walk to the small front desk/arcade/snack bar area. This looks straight out of the early 80s and dirty to boot. There is no arcade in the way you would expect. The 'arcade' is about 8 games in a corner and one was out-of-order. The snack bar attendant was bored out of her mind with her head resting on her elbow on the counter. There are, at least, some tables and also a party room. I was never welcomed by anyone and having never been to The Batcade before; felt very uncomfortable. This also translates to the fact that service sucks at The Batcade. The older woman working the counter was NOT friendly. She didn't welcome me and basically stood there as I chose the batting deal I wanted. As I explained TWICE that I have never been to the establishment so didn't know their rules; she ignored it both times and simply handed me two bats to chose from and a token. Now, perhaps this was a language barrier (she was Spanish-speaking); but that isn't an excuse. You work in America, then you need to speak English properly. Honestly though, she was just a poor employee and it wasn't a language issue. The run-down aspects of The Batcade continue with the batting cages. The bats were in poor condition and the cages themselves are shotty. There are fast and slow pitch options and apparently slow pitch doesn't have to wear helmets. At least this is what I assume because I wasn't given a helmet and someone in the fast pitch booth was. Or perhaps you have to ask. I wouldn't know as that lady at the desk didn't explain anything! The machine accepting the token was loose and took several tries to make it work and I am pretty sure I didn't get the amount of pitches I was supposed to. The only positive remarks? The batting cages are semi-private so you won't feel like the nervous pressure to show off or hide in a hole for striking out. There is also a spacious parking lot off the side street (Orange Grove) so there are two entrances : one from the parking lot and one main entrance in the front on Victory. Extra note: Every review mentions 30 pitches being $4. This is NO LONGER THE CASE. It is now 30 pitches for $5! There are also options for more pitches and one can make timed appointment sessions. The Batcade is a sore spot with rundown features and terrible customer service. However, if you are seeking a no-frills quick ball smashing session and live in the area; then The Batcade is for you. Being that there aren't many batting cages in LA, this business is good for meeting the batting cage need (and is the only reason I would return) but definitely not something to make a road trip for or a child's birthday partly regardless of how they advertise it. read more

My son is learning the game in little league. The batting cages allow him to practice and saves me from buying 50 baseballs, going to a local park, throwing to him, and possibly getting frustrated because I don't throw across the plate, or hit him with a bad pitch. This place takes ALL that way. The people that work there are selling time to hit a ball, they aren't there to serve you a $100 steak dinner. The staff sort of go out of their way to not be helpful. It's pretty amazing. I went on a Sunday afternoon. Only one other person was hanging out using a batting cage. I walked in and there were two young men working the rental desk. I was new, and stated as such, but wasn't provided very helpful information. After some back and forth, in which I finally got clarification, I was provided with a batting cage. Went into the batting cage, nothing happened for several minutes after I pressed the button. I went back in; turns out the machine was jammed. One of the lackadaisical staff begrudgingly assisted. I didn't get any food, but I WILL say the pizza looked amazing and I saw cheesecake that looked good as well. But I can't include that in my rating since I did not eat there. Parking lot tucked away to the side, plenty of street parking. I WOULD go back, because it offers a service that you don't find plentifully in the area. Tokens are $4 each and you get 30 pitches. Doesn't sound like much, but it sure does get the job done! I like that Batcade is a batting only place. It's a little young, so you can play some sweet arcade games and nosh on some pizza with your bros. There's a little parking lot behind the building, or you can park on the street depending on the time of day. If you've got a game at the Olive Recreational Center, this is a cool place to meet with your team and hit a few around. The attendants are really nice and helpful. This was once a great place to get some swings in without having to take out an equity loan to pay for it. Not sure what the business model is now but $25.00 for 15 minutes of cage time is crazy. Or better yet how about $10.00 for 50 pitches. These fee hikes makes it almost impossible for a single hitter to go get a good workout in. Nobody can take 50 consecutive serious swings without complete exhaustion, just watch the home run derby next All Star game if you dont believe me. I might not be so bent right now if they would of at least offered a 25 pitch option. The only thing this location had going for it was the Iron Mike machines but thats not enough anymore. All good things end and so has the couple hundred dollars a hear I poured into this place. First time here, went there early around 1pm it was quite empty. Which is a good thing because I get to bat as soon as I pay. There are many options to buy, $15 for 15 minutes or $5 for 15 pitches.(tokens for that option) I would suggest the $15 for 15 minutes because there's more pitches for your money. You'll get approx 150 pitches for 15 minutes vs $5 for 15 pitches. Make sure you hydrate, batting gets tiring and hot. The nets are quite low so when you see a nice hit like a home run type, it's shortly lived because the net stops you from seeing how hard you hit. Other than that good parking size lot. The machine was a little tough to get used to but once you've seen it a couple times it becomes easier. No long delay between pitches kept you in your rhythm. Don't know why they can't figure out some tiered pricing for off hours or something so they don't go out of business from stupidity? With the worn out old machines, (takes five minutes) to get the wonky calibration right as well, so your only truly getting about ten minutes of Reps. They are asking Beverly Hills pricing like this is a state of-the-art facility, and it plain just ain't worth it for working families with kids! To top it off, they haven't stuck any money in this place since the Thriller album dropped! "It's still got the same stuff from 82!" For years the location was ideal due to lack of batting cages on that entire side of LA. Pizza was good. Machine pitches were around the plate and in the area of the batter. Customer service was...fine. The sudden price hike from $15 to $25 for 15 minutes is outrageous though. Not a $2 price increase, not a $5 increase - but a $10 increase on - 15 minutes! For the time being they're still getting the benefit of coaches, who don't know about the cost change yet, sending their teams there. Paid the nice lady and hocked out the snack because I follow the rules until I'm in the box then it's all about daddy hacks. So many Burbank local females lined up - I could tell these chicks dig the long balls. I spun those wheels all the way up to 50mph because I'm all about ripping bombs. Popped off the Apple Watch... can't have anything slowing down my torque. Took time to stretch since my mid-thirties dad-bod is breaking down... only twenty minutes, didn't want the accumulating crowd to wait too long but ample time for all to take potty breaks and nab a soda-pop. We went on a Tuesday afternoon after school. It was dead and we liked it that way. The highlight were the German tourist couple in the cage next to us. Bad form. Bad everything, but the girlfriend was taking cute bad pictures of her man. Thankfully, they arrived after we had been there for awhile, so my daughter wasn't distracted. Horrible batting cages! I've been to plenty of batting cages before, so this review is from previous experiences. Cons: Pricey- 30balls for $5(consecutive) 70mph- is running around 75-80mph Inconsistent pitches- shoulder and ankle pitches Back to back pitch- a pitch came a second or two after the previous Pitch machine- double circular disk machine(very hard to time the pitch). Doesn't have the catapult type machine. Pros: Softball pitch is normal I came in there knowing that it would be pricey, but I wanted to get in some practice before my league game. Will NEVER be coming back here again. I probably only received 25 pitches, including the ones that came in at ankle low and should higher, and the back to back pitches. read more

This is one of my favorite places to go!! It's nothing fancy, the pitches are inconsistent, and not overly clean, but pricing is decent and there's always a lane open! I mostly love this place because no one bothers you. There's a boatload of bats to borrow should you not have your own. I also feel like the inconsistency is more real-life, so I've learned how to really "read" a pitch. There's also a bunch of arcade games to keep ya busy if you're waiting on a group or going to a child's bday party. If I had kids I'd force them to have all their birthday parties here. read more

This is the first time and will be the last time for me to be here. There were several things that ruined my visit. 1. Since it's my first time being here, I asked for the rate. 30 pitches for $5 (1 token). So I bought for a token. But at the end, there were only about 10 pitches and it's over. Nothing else. What's wrong with it? 2. When I just got the token from the attendant, she didn't gave me the bat and the helmet. After couple minutes when I figured out what to do and went back to her to ask about the bat, she finally gave me the bat without a word. 3. Although it's fewer than 30 pitches, I wanted to leave anyway. But I really had a good time hitting the pitches. So much fun playing it. So I started taking some pictures for sharing on my website and social media. Suddenly the attendant came to me and stopped me taking pictures. I tried to explain to her I just wanted to share this place to my audience and she didn't listen, keep talking that I should ask before I took the pics. I said, ok, who can I talk to for asking? Once upon a time, a Yelpette exclaimed "UGH! I hate men! I wanna smack some balls!" Then the Yelpette looked at Edgar's crotch - but not in a good way. So after getting into the Crane position a la Karate Kid to defend Edgar's self from any sudden attacks to Edgar's manhood, Edgar suggested that Edgar and the Yelpette go to a batting cage that Saturday morning - which followed a Friday night, so obviously Edgar was hungover. Oddly enough, smacking them 65 mph* softballs helped Edgar with his hangover - and the activity helped temper the Yelpette's anger management issues - for the moment anyway. Then Edgar and the Yelpette went to Porto's afterwards and had potato balls and Cuban sammiches. The End. This is the spot to hit for getting the batting practice done. Don't forget to take your own bats though. Stays open till 10pm so you could end up there for a while, because they have a air hockey table, arcade games, and even a pool table. The employees are all helpful and keep the place in good shape. The food is good and the selection should be enough to please your appetite. Don't forget to warm up and stretch out well. The location is nice. This batting cage has been my 2nd most successful date destination in Burbank, next to the 1-2 punch of the Victory Blvd escapade that is the Firing Line Shooting Range and the Burbank Animal Shelter. Once upon a time, the pizza/sandwich shop located inside, made a caesar salad sandwich was comprised of the most delicious flatbread, melted gouda, croutons and of course, caesar salad. I would order this at work a few times a week until around April or May of 2004 when they inexplicably "ran out" of gouda and never replaced it. Not kidding around, I went in and offered to resupply them with gouda if they would just build me the f'n sandwiches again and they politely refused. Confused, I extended an offer that suggested that they rethink their position and call me if they changed their minds. But, like the ending of the 2nd season of Twin Peaks, some things will just remain unresolved forever. read more

A few whiffs, and I knew I had to start at the beggining, so I changed cages, picked 50mph, and proceeded to massacre the ball, just like the good old days. 50 pitches later, and I am killing it in the 70mph cage. As a softball player I wouldn't recommend this place because they do not have a self feed underhand softball machine. I know to many people that isn't big deal but personally I thought it was much more beneficial to hit out of those type of machines verses the manual drop down machines. Now that I play slowpitch softball I don't mind coming here. I came here on a Friday night with my slowpitch softball team and had a blast! We reserved a cage for 7:00pm and the staff was more than accommodating. They were helpful and very easy going, which is probably why my experience here was so pleasant. Service counts! They have street parking and lot parking; street parking is right out front and lot parking is around the corner, both of which are very close to the cages. The place was swarming with teeny boppers! I get it, their main target audience isn't 20-40year olds, but man did it make me feel old. Pricing One hour is $35 30 minutes is $20 I really enjoyed my experience at Batcade because they have a lot to offer. The cages are all outdoors and are surrounded by tables and benches. This place is fun! Went here for the second time last week. The only thing I didn't like was that I witnessed a couple go in with their little boy (maybe 3 years old). The mom and dad were swinging at the ball and the mom nearly hit her 3 year old in the head with the bat! Management needs to keep an eye on shit like this. So tonight at age 22, I walked into the Batcade at 9:20pm for the first time in over a decade. I used to come to the Batcade all the time when I was 6-12 years old growing up and playing Little League. It's exactly how I remember it only it was empty at that time of night. I loved and still love this place. It'll always be a classic to me. And mind you, I live in Central Los Angeles and it can be quite a drive out here to Burbank in peak traffic hours. This cage is my favorite for some technical reasons: 1. You can actually -- visually see the ball drop into the machine. -This is nice because you can time your swing and stride easier because you can see when the machine is about to pitch the ball. Sherman Oaks Castle Batting Cages... another popular batting cage in LA... doesn't really have this. You can't see the ball before the pitch. This isn't too realistic because normally, you'd see a pitcher go into their windup and you can see the release point of the ball when they throw it. Seeing the ball drop into the machine would be closest to seeing a pitching windup. So that's probably one of the most important features I appreciate about the Batcade. That may seem overly technical, but I think it's an advantage to experienced and beginner hitters alike. For some with little to no experience, it would simply be too hard for them to have the bat speed they need to hit a ball from reflex alone. Timing is important in a swing. 2. It's a small place. There are about 8 cages I think? I like that. Despite the small arcade and pizza shop they have there, the place feels a little more "home-y" 3. I like the Sherman Oaks Castle Cages too, but what I dislike most are their cages are the kind that shoot up at you from a downward slope. It's completely unnatural. Like I mentioned above, you can't see the ball drop down, and the ball then shoots upward at you. The only good thing about the Castle Cages I believe is it's one 80mph machine. That's great and all, but it's still a little hard to time your swing to hit at that speed when you can't see the ball drop down. Maybe that's just me, but I like to think I practice to play against real human pitchers where I'd see a windup and release point and not practice just to hit against machines. --Besides the technical reasons, I love the place because it's familiar and small. The place is simple and has ample parking. At most times you don't have to wait for a cage like the Castle Cages. The machines are better and adjustable too. Different speeds and you have a "LOW" and "HIGH" option for the height. That's a great feature too. Overall, it's a GREAT "Swing away" style batting cage. read more

Went here for the first time and our whole group had a great time. There are 10 different cages, each one having different options. We were in the cage with all options- fast pitch baseball and softball as well as slow pitch baseball and softball. When there was a malfunction with the slow pitch in ours the guys inside gave us another cage so I could hit the slow pitch softball while my friends finished up with the fast pitch baseball. There is food available, but we didn't eat here. Looks like a nice, family friendly place. We certainly will be back for $40 an hour for a team. They provide everything- bats, helmets, etc. As it got later the cages became more and more crowded. Get here early! read more

This is my favorite cage in the valley (outside of the one in my backyard.) Prices are reasonable, service is friendly, and the machines don't pump fastballs all right down the middle - up down in out, a little bit of everything. Speeds seem a little faster than stated, but you can always adjust to a slower speed or move the pitch up or down with the push of a button in the cage. And since it's covered with a giant metal roof, it's as good as indoors, protecting you from the 364 days of sun and 1 day of rain that you have to contend with in SoCal. Pizza and garlic twists are pretty good too if you're around during lunch. read more

I decided to join a softball league at work so I needed to get some swings in since it's been a few years since I last picked up a bat. Went on a Sunday and had no problems getting a cage. Hit up the slow pitch softball cages.. oh btw, some of the cages have both softball/baseball options so you can try either or. 3 stars cause the machines kept breaking down on me and I had to keep switching cages (2 times) and I agree with Andy S.. the cages are kinda small.. I had to adjust my stance cause I kept hitting the side of the cage. It was about $3 for 25 pitches and parking is no problem. Plenty of street parking on Victory. There are video games and a small restaurant inside for birthday parties and such. read more
