Bastard Cafe is a must visit if you are ever visiting Copenhagen. It's fun, loud, and colorful. This location has over 5,000 board games. It's astounding the amount of games in this place. They are everywhere! There is even a "Game Guru", seated somewhere in the center of the cafe. You can ask him/her any game-related questions. They can recommend the perfect game for you to play and they even instruct you on how to play. There is a QR code at each table you can use to order drinks/foods. They will bring it to the table. They serve coffee, beer, wine, cocktails. They also serve some light bites such as nachos and nuggets. 5 stars - Nice ambiance. I am not a gamer, but I do appreciate sitting down and playing a good game every now and then. While I was in Europe visiting with a friend, she asked if I wanted to stop in to this little cafe and play some games. We went into the first entrance we saw, which led us into a small basement space with a counter to order drinks, and a little back room with more games. To me, it was a pretty typical gaming cafe - nothing remarkable. We played some card games for a bit, sipped our tea, and then we headed upstairs to leave... but THEN, we realized the actual MAIN section of the cafe was upstairs, and it was huge. There were several copies of each game neatly stacked, and went on forever. Every game you could think of seemed to be on the shelved. They had cute merchandise, too. We were both bummed we didn't realize it before, but I bookmarked this place so that I can return next time I am in Copenhagen. If you love gaming, this place is a must. read more

I have so many thoughts on this place, so I'm going to make it as concise as I can. 1) Holy cow, the number of board games is WILD. This is a tiny portion of the number of games that we saw as an option. It makes choosing something incredibly difficult! Come in with a game plan and multiple options, because having to choose will overwhelm you even more. 2) The food options are ok, but they serve you a large amount of food in each serving. So prepare for that! They have better drink options, and they're very reasonably priced. 3) MAKE SURE YOU GET A RESERVATION. If you don't, it's going to be really hard to get a table at all - much less a table bigger than a 2 top. 4) HAVE FUN!! It's seriously such a cool place. OH MY. If you've looked this place up on Yelp you're on the right track. Honestly if you're short on time or sick of scrolling, don't even read further. Just trust me here, you absolutely have to make a trip to Bastard Cafe. You're welcome in advance. However, if you do feel as though you want to keep reading, be my guest. Bastard is a board game bar in the center of Copenhagen. It is close to Magstræde, that super picturesque, colorful street, and Christiansborg Palace. The cafe is pretty large with multiple rooms and outdoor space, but it can definitely fill up quickly! Don't be discouraged if you can't find a place to sit immediately. You may be able to share a couch or wait until some others finish. Some games are free to play, others cost. The fee is 25 kr/person and then you can play any of the $ games all night. They offer a selection of coffees and hot chocolate, beers, and snack food. The sweet potato fries are seriously so good. I would highly recommend those if you're to order food. And lastly, if you're a tourist, like me, it's nice to know that this is a place that Danes genuinely come to to hang out in a cozy, hyggeligt setting. When the sun goes down before 5pm, and most shops close early - Bastard Cafe is a must visit to kill time. Visited here a few days ago on vacation w/ my sister. We had a wonderful time playing some crazy games here. We ordered 2 teas and played for over an hour. There are many games, either in Danish or English language. Shelves of games are all over the place, so you have to thoroughly look through the shelves to find the game of your choice. They have jenga, scrabble, mystery games, and some weird ones I have never seen. We attempted to play 6 different games, and our most favorite was Jenga. I guess we have low attention spans, because a lot of the games were so weird, or were quite boring. Went around to see if there was Uno or Monopoly, but didn't see one. There are tons of seating, but make sure to come early as it gets packed fast. We came here twice, and first time it was full. Second attempt we came much earlier, and it was 90% full but we were able to get a 2 person table. read more

Excellent place to have a chill night out with your friends. The atmosphere is great here and the crowd is very mixed (not only youngester's!) There are so many games, and it may get difficult to choose a game. My friends and I actually spent quite a while to figure out how to play a game... Fantastic place. And since I've gotten this question a lot; no, it's not just for nerds. There are people of all ages who visit! You don't have to play games to be there, you can also sit and enjoy the atmosphere. There's a wide range of games to enjoy, some for free and some you have to pay to play. However, a membership for en entire year is only 125kr i believe - and you get to bring a friend for free! Otherwise it's 25kr to play all games in the cafe. Their bar is also great! I don't drink but they do serve lots of different drinks which I'm sure are great. Their hot chocolate is amazing, you must try it if you visit. Their fries..... Don't even get me started on their fries. You get to choose if you want curly or regular or skinny or with vinegar and just... So many choices!! This cafe is just so. Damn. GOOD. read more

Free games are labelled and the whole cafe is filled with friends & families settling Catan and exploding kittens. There are game gurus who can help you learn a new game or if you're feeling feisty you can pay for a more complex option - something like Turning Point Stalingrad. Its a dynamic spot in terms of seats, you'll probably want to take a lap and scope out your spot. Then head to the counter to order - it's pretty much pub food but it's good and quick. Nachos were good for sharing & the toasts were a bit heartier. Warm gooey cheese schlepped out of my salami toast and honestly I loved it. Give me more cheese ha. Best latte I've had yet on this trip! (We were in Oslo before and now Copenhagen) This is a definite recommend to family and friends for both their good coffee and plethora of board games (most are free to play but some are not). Great place to meet friends and pass away a few hours in the afternoon or evening. You can pay their 20kr a day or annual membership (I forget the price) for the "fancier" boardgames or expansion packs. Or, like me, you can enjoy their more than sufficient free shelf of games (my fav are Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne). Lots of seating options, and even a back room with couches. Since it's a boardgames oriented place, you'll get the most out of it if you're a group of 2-5 (3 or 4 is optimal, any more and less will be a problem with number of players). Food is reasonable. I quite like their fries, which are tasty and generaously sized for 35 kr. It's not a place I would go to alone to relax or work. It's not nearly cozy enough (nor is the coffee good enough) for that. We chose to play the free game which in the end made us confused how to play it. Worry not, there was our saviour, the game master, who taught us how to play the game that we chose. You can get the one-day pass for 25 kr, or get the annual membership for a mere 125 kr (cmiiw) and get to take a guest for free. For that you can play any kind of board games you desire of in this place. I love the concept that you can drink some beer (or coffee for that sake) and play games with friends, it seems such an innocent fun, compared to other outings that perhaps involve more alcoholic drinks or of more dangerous nature *smirk*. GO HERE!!! This is truly as good as it gets. My five stars is not because of the food or drink; it's for the concept. I've never seen a bar with board games before! This gaming bar is so cool - and not just for board game people. There are hundreds - maybe thousands - of games to play, many of them free. We didn't pay to play at all. There were tons of games to play in the free section, many of the ones you'd expect to see. I think if you came as a regular local, you'd probably want the membership, but as a visitor, you don't need it at all. We came twicein two days to play and drink. Their menu is pretty standard, beers and wines, some teas and non-alcoholic drinks too. We didn't try the food, it didn't look super impressive. I assume most of their high star reviews are not for their menu. But they did have lots of snack foods - like popcorn and fries, so that's all you really need. Perfect place for a couple of friends to hang and play some board games. There is a wide selection from the free to play section which was more than enough to keep us occupied for hours. It was still very busy on a Sunday evening but we managed to get a table in one of the lounges. They have a huge theft problem. If you visit this bar be alert at all time! Be careful and keep your personal items as close to you as possible. Bastard Café needs to do more about the number of items stolen from their café every night. We had an incident where an iphone 6s, wallet, and purse were stolen very quickly and when we reached out for security footage, they said they experience about seven phones and laptops on average a night being stolen. This place was a great place. I grew up playing lots of board games, but surprised to find out there were so many international board games I didn't know. It is too bad that they charge 25kr for one player. I mean it is okay if you know which game you want to play (we wanted the Uno Card, but it was not available). We couldn't find Monopoly. Also some board games that we knew available only in Danish. The three of us didn't have that much knowledge of many of the board games. The game guru was only there after 7pm (at least when we were there). So we ended up with the Hanabi (card game). Thankfully by the time we decided we wanted to give it a try, the guru was there to help us. First try we scored so low that was below a novice level LOL. Second try, after have set up some ground rules (apparently, you can make up one), we managed to score so high that it was the legendary level. What a fantastic concept. Bastard Cafe serves beer, hard apple cider, and non-alcoholic drinks. There is limited bar food. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Lots of tables and some sitting areas. The best part is all the games! There are lots of free games, well organized on shelves. For other games, you have to pay. I love the concept of this place: you come here to play games while having snacks or drinks. They have all the major international and danish board games as well as some one-offs. To play, you have to pay 25 kr for one day or just go ahead and get yourself a year's membership for 125 kr (valid for you AND one guest). They also have some free games you can play, which sit on a shelf marked by yellow tape. As for the cafe itself, they have the usual easygoing beers on tap as well as some nice-looking bottles from Rocket Brewing Co. The hot chocolate was surprisingly nice with whipped cream, a drizzle of chocolate, tiny marshmallows, and a little twix on the side. I also got to try the crunchy fries with chili powder and they were great; perfect to fuel a game further with only slightly greasy fingers. If you happen to need more players for your game, you can go up to the bar and get a sign that says so. Seems like a great way to meet new people with like interests.
