My wife and I took her RX8 to Herzog-Meier Mazda in Beaverton. I told the customer service rep I put a new battery in the vehicle, but there still seemed to be an electrical issue with the car. I asked if they would do a "draw test" to see if the alternator or starter was the problem. The rep didn't know what a draw test was. After he spoke with a technician, the customer service rep advised they could do a draw test for $150. We left, drove to Bassitt Auto on 18115 Baseline, and advised them of our problems with the car. That day we received two calls from Bassitt customer service to make sure they understood the exact symptoms my wife had experienced. When we picked the car up, we discovered it was not the alternator or the starter; instead, it was a loose battery cable causing the problem. Charge, $60.00. read more

This is an older review, but since I just figured out about Yelp, and left a good review for my current auto shop, I felt I should also include my review for the one these folks as well. My results may not be accurate anymore but given what I've dealt with for them, I figured it should at least be shared. Finding a reputable repair place when you move into a new area can be daunting. When we moved to Oregon from the Midwest 10 years ago, this was the first place we used. Their office was neat, had pictures of classic cars which is something I like myself, and the staff was friendly enough, but after some minor work like tires, oil change, etc, one major repair left me with a bad taste, and ultimately caused me to never use them again. We moved to Oregon in 2009, but by the following year my wife's 1998 Nissan Sentra ES needed a new exhaust system. I knew this going in, and they agreed. I asked them what it would cost and paid about $220 or so. Before doing this repair, I asked them if it was worth doing it because the value of the car wasn't much more than $1400 or so at the time, and I didn't want to put a whole lot of money into something that old/cheap. They assured me it was worth it, and would be a good thing to repair to get plenty of time left out of my vehicle. They gave me the typical caveats that of course they couldn't guarantee that the engine wouldn't die next week, but at least the exhaust system was good it should be okay after we replaced the muffler and exhaust setup. 4 days later, my wife informed me that her check engine light was illuminated. Upon returning it to the same place, I was informed that my entire catalytic converter was bad, and would also need replaced. I was informed that it was going to cost me another $800-$900 to replace it. Needless to say I was furious, asking why they didn't bother to even look at the Catalytic converter when replacing the exhaust system, that if they had said "you're CC looks like crap, it needs replaced too" I would never have done the first repair (the car wasn't worth $1500 total). At the time I left a couple messages asking the manager/owner to call me back, upset about having spent that money and wanting to work something out, but never received a call back. So instead these folks took me for a couple hundred bucks, and then expected me to give them more. Nope! The way I look at it, I spent about $200 to find out I could never trust them again. I left that business with a bad opinion of them, I have read the other reviews on here about them not being honest, and I agree. I have since found another business, very honest, that has had more than one chance to rip me off and didn't. Maybe Bassitt Auto has changed their ways in that time, but unless so, I would not recommend them. If you are having any kind of repair done there, I would get a second opinion from someone else. read more

Went in to get my coolant link diagnosed. It was very short (about 3-4 hours) and they actually provided me with extra information regarding other issues they noticed. They didn't have to, but even with my car leaking, they still filled it with coolant free of charge and I'll probably go back for other services in the future. Consider me a customer for life! (As long as I live nearby.) So far every experience I've had with Bassett has been a positive one. They consistently have delivered great service at better prices than local competitors. Most recently, they fixed a misfire in 1 of my cylinders on my f150. After the initial diagnostic they determined they would need to remove the valve cover to dig deeper and figure out what was going on (which would have brought my total to about $500. Once the valve cover was off they found that it was a separate issue which could be resolved without removing the valve cover. THEY NEVER CHARGED ME THE ADDITIONAL COST TO REMOVE THE VALVE COVER (only the cost of the original diagnostic and a spark plug)! They could have easily lied and got more money, but the team at bassett is probably the only mechanic shop I've ever actually trusted and thats for a good reason. I HIGHLY recommend them for any automotive repair needs you may have. read more

They also put a complimentary car freshener in my car that smells wonderful. I needed a break inspection which was supposed to cost $60, but because it was much easier than expected to do all the measurements, they didn't charge when they easily could have! I chose to use Bassitt for some basic services, as I was towed there after a tie rod failure months earlier and had a favorable experience. I'm also new to the area and don't know anyone else. I again had another excellent experience at Bassitt. Their level of communication was great, and they didn't try to push extra services on me (I really, really need some 100k mile service-type flushes, etc). They provided the pricing for those services and performed the brake job and wheel bearing replacement that I went in for originally. Also, free loaner cars rock (although the car I had seemed to need some tranny work). Free loaner car. Free. That alone saved me near $100 on a rental. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because they do seem to be moderately expensive. I will be returning to them for future car repairs (and flushes) read more

I've been taking my car to Bassitt for years. Yes, they are more expensive, but that's because they use decent parts and spend time making sure the job is done right. Their customer service is amazing, (or maybe I'm so jaded I'm easily impressed?). I took my Nissan into them yesterday to get the engine mounts fixed, they had notified me last year that one engine mount had cracked, I ignored their warning to have it fixed (because I love to play car engine roulette and see which speed bump is going to make my engine fall out). My husband was driving the car a month ago and heard a loud metallic ping as he pulled into our driveway. Turns out, the back engine mount had sheared off and cracked the front engine mount. So, like the good little procrastinator I am, I waited a month to take my car into Bassitt. They do a free inspection, list what they think your car could have done to it, but they're not pushy about you having those services, which I like. They offer you a loaner car (you just have to pay $0.30 a mile) and there are complimentary beverages. Rick and Kelly were super nice and accommodating with communication (emailing instead of calling, since I was at work) and Kelly arranged for me to be able to pick up my car after they had closed for the evening. read more

When have you ever seen the owner of a major repair shop actually in the shop? Never? Well the opposite is true at Bassitt. Craig took the time to make sure I was being well taken care of. Did he have to? Not at all from the customer service staff to the mechanics to Jamie, the GM, every single person at Bassitt was courteous, knowledgable and professional. I got a loaner car for free ( just paid for gas I used) and the repair was done quickly. You have a nice warm, comfortable place to sit while you wait for service, and free coffee/beverages while you're there. They use high quality parts so you pay a little more, but you really do have to compare "apples to apples" when looking at the cost. I didn't just pay for repairs, I bought peace of mind! read more

Bassitt Auto Co. Is great! I've taken my high mileage Lexus to them on 2 occasions. I know I can trust that the job is done right. I like that they guarantee their work for two years or up to 24,000 miles. Other mechanics I've used in the past may have cost less, but did a sub par job too, and no one I've used before guaranteed their work for two years. Another great benefit is the loaner car program. They used to do the limo service but now they have complimentary loaner cars they will reserve for you. As long as they have your car you have theirs so you don't even have to worry about being without a car while your car is in the shop. read more

New to the area, so given the reputations mechanics have, searching for one you trust without any recommendations from people you know is... precarious. Short version: Look around! Get quotes elsewhere! This is not an honest shop! There are other shops within a few miles of here that will be straight and fair with you, this is a shop that puts on a huge markup & throws in costs with no explanation. Long version: Came in here because my car was having power issues. First reaction is always the battery, but after doing some homework I had suspicions that it was more than that - I suspected it was an issue with the alternator, based upon how the car had been performing the past 2 years. I managed to jump it in the morning, my car basically limping to the shop. Why I chose Bassitt versus others was basically due to distance and generally 3.5+ stars on yelp generally works out. I spoke with Mike, told him what I thought was wrong with it. His initial estimate was $125 if it turned out to be just the battery, he'd try to get it less than that if it was just the battery - fine, I could work with that. Early in the afternoon, he calls back, stated that the work would be pricey - $925 for an alternator replacement. Fortunately, I had done my homework on the cost, this sounded really high, and also I was fortunate to have people with me that knew better as well & encouraged me to get a second opinion, which I did. The first shop I called with better reviews on yelp gave me a much better estimate - $565 for everything. I called Mike back, asked an explanation of his quote - $125 for the diagnostic + another $180 for the labor (funny, the shop I ended up taking it to INCLUDED the diagnostic as part of the labor), $500 for the part, which leaves $120 which there was no explanation for. The differences between the two quotes: Alternator - both shops had re-manufactured alternators, but Bassitt claimed to be using an alternator made by my car maker - difference being over $100. I called autozone as well for just the part by itself, it came out to be closer to the other shop. If this was an alternator made by my car maker, maybe I could understand that. But what was highly suspicious was that initially Bassitt told me that the only option was the one they presented, then when I called Mike back to confront him on the cost, he contradicted what he initially said, stated that he could maybe find an aftermarket part for cheaper, but then backpedaled on that statement and basically said "forget it, take it elsewhere if you want." Bassitt charging $125 to do the diagnostic, then tacking on another $180 labor on top of this. The other shop just flat out charged $150 for the labor... which included the diagnostic. Then theres $120 Mike had no explanation for... I paid the $125 to get my keys and towed my car to a more honest shop. Your loss, Bassitt. read more

I was charged a $150 to bring my Land-Rover in last year to run the scanner on and find out the quote. Not only was the charge too much for same result, I got from Auto-zone at no cost. The biggest problem was the quote of over $5,000 in repair was just ridiculous. I later found out the whole issue has been just a busted pipe from the exhaust manifold, some issue with the plugs and I am not so sure if the coil was replaced or not.. But that was all that was needed to put the vehicle back on the road... Just thought it would have been better if their Land-Rover tech has said earlier, he does not know what to do with it...I am willing to provide information to Bassitt if they think this is just some made up stories.. I used Bassitt for the better part of a decade to work on my cars when I couldn't. Were they the cheapest around, nope. Were they dependable, knowledgeable, trustworthy? I thought so. They always stood behind their work, no problems. They also chased down problems no matter how obtuse the cause might be. And they did nothing with out checking with me and giving me accurate cost projections. They also have a Limo service that can take you home with in a reasonable distance (i forget what that is). They are also on the Max line so public transport is only about a mile away. My only regret is that when I moved to N Portland Bassitt is now too far out of my way. Otherwise I would still be using them today, and tomorrow, and , well you get the picture. read more

We had a great, reasonably-priced experience when we took our Jeep to Bassitt last month. They fixed everything up, even the unexpected clutch sensor, within 24-hours and we had our vehicle back. They were willing to work with our schedules to get our Jeep back to us after hours and were just all around kind, friendly, helpful people. It wasn't like going to the dentist, where they lecture you for things or going to a dealership where you feel taken advantage of and like they are trying to nickel and dime you to death. In fact, it was such a nice experience, when we dropped our Jeep off all bleary-eyed at 7:00am, the owner (Mr. Bassitt) greeted us with lattes and a walk-around of the shop, complete with 1950s newspaper and vintage cars in the mechanic work area. All of the mechanic-types that we encountered (managers/specialists, more likely) were kind and resourceful too, including the gent who also owns a Jeep and quickly got into ours to get the keys and move it into the work area when we were walking around with Mr. Bassitt (we couldn't turn the vehicle off because it wasn't starting back up, so it was idling out front, locked up with the keys inside; we had spares and were going to unlock it for him, but he was so quick and resourceful we didn't even have to). No matter where we live in the PDX Metro area, I believe we will be long-time customers of Bassitt Auto. Thanks for all your hard work and kind assistance, gentlemen! read more

Just bought a 2008 Scion xD and I called about my headlights turning off when I pushed the switcher forward to turn on the high beams, and was thinking something was broken and needed to be replaced. Mike asked if I could just stop by and he would take a look at my car. All I needed was new high beam bulbs, he put them in for me and I was on my way. The odd thing is my car also had a strange fan rattle sound coming from under the driver dash area, that I had not even mentioned to Mike. When I left Bassitt, I noticed that the rattle had stopped! Yet that is exactly what happened after taking my car to Bassit Auto. The check engine light on my ford fusion came on. Nothing else was wrong with my vehicle, it started, ran beautifully, the only problem was that pesky light. so I looked around the area for a good reviewed diagnostic and Mechanic shop. Was recommended Bassit Auto, so I decided to try them out. One day and $500 later, I received my car back. Only now it was constantly rumbling when turned on, and had problems with the ignition, and here's the kicker, the check engine light was STILL on. Not only that, but the man who retrieved my car acknowledged the rumbling that hand't been there before, and didn't offer any explanation. Will I ever come here again? No I will not. We've been going to Bassitt for years, and they kept our ancient cars running for a long time. We finally got a new car, so we've been seeing a little less of them lately :) , but recently, right before we were going to be on the road for a couple of hundred miles, the car started making a weird sound. The friendly front desk staff fit us in right away, and Jammie and (oh, gosh, brain fart... I'm so sorry I forgot) spent a LOT of time driving it around trying to replicate the noise, and checking out anything it could be. Naturally the noise had stopped as soon as the car got to the shop, but secure in the knowledge that they'd been thorough about checking everything out, we hit the road that same afternoon without any trumped-up repair costs. (The noise is still gone, too!) We always trust Bassitt to be honest about whether a repair is necessary or not, and this was just one more example of how they've earned our trust. I love Bassist Auto! They really do take care of you and treat you like family. I have been here a couple of times because I was having issues with my engine. When I had bought the car I did not realize that it was a horrible engine to begin with until it was too late. Bassist Auto began doing the repairs and did their upmost best to fix the problem. However the issues were beyond repair. So after a couple attempts to rectify the issues they finally decided to replace my entire engine at no cost to me and even found one with lower miles on it to replace my old one. They quoted me a front brake job for a 99 Jeep Wrangler. Rotors, pads, and fluid flush was $574 just for the parts. I called two other local repair shops and was quoted: $280 installed. I won't be calling this repair shop ever again. read more

I took my truck to Bassitt after getting an estimate of $500 for the work it needed from another shop. They kept the truck for the day and then gave me an estimate of $1200, which, by the way, didn't include front end alignment. They said I could go somewhere else to get that done once they had completed the other repairs. I told them about the $500 estimate from the other shop and they said that obviously the other shop wouldn't do quality maintenance for that price and to stay far away from them. Since the estimates were so far apart, I decided to take my truck to Les Schwab for a third estimate. Schwab told me $700 for ALL the work, and that's where I got it done. This isn't the only bad experience I had with Bassitt, but I've learned my lesson. I absolutely do not recommend them. Try somewhere, anywhere, else. read more

Beginning in January we had taken our truck to Bassitt several times and had repairs done. Each time we had asked them about a noise coming from the front end and though they were unable to find the problem they charged us $52, $52 and $84 for a diagnosis in addition to the other hundreds of dollars we paid for other repairs. In July we took our truck in for an over heating problem, and lack of AC and they finally diagnosed the noise problem. To fix the noise and overheating problem they gave us a $2300 estimate. I thanked them and took my car for a second opinion and of course Bassitt charged me another $176 for diagnosis when I picked it up. According to Bassitt the overheating and AC problem could be fixed if I replaced the AC condenser fan and radiator fan clutch for around $600. The shop I took my truck to for a second opinion simple bleed air out the coolant system and charged me nothing and the overheating and AC problem was fixed. The second shop asked whether anyone had worked on the coolant system within the last several months and yes Bassitt had. I think like a lot of people I was fooled by the novelty of the decor and the "friendliness" of the employees but missed the big picture of potentially unneeded repairs and excessive costs. I won't be fooled again. read more
