Arriving well after they closed and departing before they opened, I spent the night in the Bass Pro parking lot in my Sprinter van. I wasn't the only one here - a camper trailer, another Sprinter and a Class A were also here. It's way in the back of the shopping center so it was quiet despite being next to the Interstate. Hooray for Bass Pro and their support of RVers. While I didn't shop at the store today, it's this sort of thing that puts Bass Pro at the top of my list for camping gear or stuff I need for the RV. I love the atmosphere of a Bass Pro Shops, and even if I'm not into hunting, fishing, or archery, I still usually enjoy walking around and appreciating the decor and craftsmanship present in such an establishment. Honestly though, this Gainesville location has disappointed me. The decor was tasteful, but in comparison to other Bass Pro locations, severely lacking (especially in the bathrooms). It was the type of store that sets me in search of better locations to visit instead, so I can get the experience I deeply crave. If this is your first Bass Pro Shops experience, I would highly recommend visiting another location to truly understand the majesty of a Bass Pro Shops. I did not purchase anything so cannot speak on the customer service or quality of goods, however, if the atmosphere is any indication, they are also likely subpar. Overall, some suggestions may be just a few more animal figures decorating the ceilings and walls, a staircase wrapping around and through the aquarium, giving the visitor a more engaging and interactive experience, and possibly a separate area exclusively for the Bass Pro Shops branded food items, theming included. Some additional decor, such as various shacks (found in other locations to add atmosphere) would be greatly appreciated. I leave this review not because I want to simply vent about my experience or to negatively impact the image of Bass Pro Shops, but because I see a world in which every Bass Pro Shops store can be a magical place which fills its customers with a childlike wonder. Used this store the second time for a firearm transfer from a vendor other than Cabela's/Bass Pro. I live 70 miles from the store and on the occasional firearm purchase, I like to use them because we shop for clothes etc. during the process. We spent over $400 in the store on non-firearm items but they charged me $90 for the transfer; the most I have ever spent on a transfer is $25. The worst part of the whole trip were the employees at the gun counter playing grabass and talking with friends instead of dealing with customers. They Fd around so much, by the time they got around to my backgroud check, it didn't make it back before the store closed and several of us were summarily booted and told to come back another day. That was a special trip for me, obviously, which I made today and enountered the same type of service even though there were only three customers at or near the gun counter. I guess the best part of it is, I don't ever need to worry about making this trip again. Very disappointed, this was formerly one of my favorite places. read more

Beyond lousy customer service. I bought a firearm with a rebate at Cabela's, to pick up at Bass Pro in Gainesville Florida. After 4 trips, massive confusion from their people (I won't call them outfitters), they finally gave me my guns, but without a receipt. I have tried online chat and calling their customer service phone number, to no avail. You can't get anyone who is actually connected to a brain. It takes so long to get through, it's impossible. It shouldn't be so much trouble to get a receipt for a purchase. This is the buffoonery you get when you do business with Cabela's. I am not going back, period. I looked on Bass Pro Shops website for a Sig P365 X macro Tacops handgun and it said limited quantities available. So I drove 45 minutes to the stores location and waited 1 hour in que at the gun counter to be helped. Only to find out that they don't have the handgun in stock. I told him the website said this location had a limited quantity in stock. He told me they have been out of stock for awhile and looked it up on his computer only to look puzzled and made some excuse that maybe someone online ordered it. Gorgeous store. I felt as though I was at a theme park. I could not keep my eyes off the ceilings and walls. Between the animals, the murals, and all the activity above, I found it difficult to focus on the foods below. A bit pricey, but quality is tops for most items in the store. I was given bad information by employees 3x as to the location of a simple product - an umbrella - out of all things. Fun fact: BPS/Cabelas stores only sell one small mini umbrella. The employees were too lazy to check for themselves. Speaking of LAZY; online store pick-up order wasn't ready one day after I placed the order. Even the customer service clerk was wondering why the items hadn't been pulled first thing in the morning. I waited 45 minutes to no avail and left. WEEKEND review #3: What?! I've only ever been in a Bass Pro once before. I do not hunt or fish or do any of these sporty things that people do and go to BPS to get supplies. This place is freaking cool. I mean, I don't understand half of what is on display but I liked the theming and the flow of traffic. The thing I found that got me really excited was the archery section. I had no idea this was even here! I love archery. I used to be pretty good at it and I would love to pick it up again. BPS has all kinds of bows, from beginners to seasoned people (archers? Bowers?) I had a major issue in the Gainesville / FL. The firearm department discriminated me. I order a firearm from Savannah store, through the phone and they delivered it to the Gainesville / FL store. I drove 2 hours from Jacksonville with my wife and kids to pick up the firearm. First they told me I would need to wait 24 hours to process the firearm in the store after the delivery. After explaining the situation, that I drove from Jacksonville to Gainesville only for that (2 hours), they told me that it could take hours to process that (this was 5:30 pm), and maybe we wouldn't have time enough because they would close the firearm department at 7:00 pm. Only after I insisted with Daniell (manager) , they finally processed the firearm, and could see and fill out the paper work to bring the firearm with me. I have a green card, Florida drive's license and Florida conceal carry permit. For some reason the manager Daniell told me I need a document from the USCIS (government) proving that I'm "legal" in the country, so I downloaded the document (pdf) from the USCIS website and sent it to his email (the exactly document that he requested me). After a while they told me that they need the document that was delivered to my house, not the one I downloaded from the website (they asked me to download the documents from USCIS for them), otherwise they couldn't process my background check to take my firearm. So after almost 4 hours, they didn't let me take my firearm, they refuse to ship to the Daytona beach store (because it is way closer to my house). The only option they gave me was to refund it. I didn't want that. I have multiple firearms that I bought from multiple dealers, and I never had a problem purchasing anything, and even worse, I never felt discriminated by anybody before because my race (Latino) like I was at the Gainesville / FL store. And I never was prohibited to purchase a firearm before. So they refunded me. I called the day after that to talk to Bill, the main manager of the store. I explained him the situation and he told me he couldn't do anything about it. They didn't even apologized to me. They just didn't care. I told him I would get back there to show the documentation they required me, but the firearm that I purchased from $1.399.98 was now 1.669.77. I asked him to, at least, after everything, match the price I paid before that they refunded (against my will). And Bill, the highest manager of the Gainesville / FL told me that he can't do nothing about it, and if I want the firearm, I would need to pay the price from now. The firearm is a ZEV OZ9 HYPERCOMP, UPC: 811338035721 and the serial number is ZD05302. I purchased at 01/11/2024. The only thing I want is to be able to purchase the same exactly firearm (that is still available in the store) for the price I paid originally, $1399.98. The worse experience ever. The Bass Pro Shop in Gainesville is awesome! I love this location and everything about this place. I have always been a big fan of Brass Pro Shop because you really feel like you are walking into the wilderness when you shop here. Right now everyone is going a little crazy because of the Hurricane that is coming soon to the area. I needed a Gas canister just in case I did need to evacuate. I went here after going to Home Depot and many other stores, they had the Gas Canisters right in the front. They only had a 3 and 10 galls tank, and they were kind of expensive but it was still good to get it and the fact they had them was a good thing. This place feels like you are walking into the mountains. They have a big fish tank with local fish you could catch right here in Florida. I love to that there parking lot is huge and they use a lot of local colors you would find in southern FL. The staff here is super friendly and they do a lot to make you feel welcome. You can get items like tents, grills, sleeping bags, kayaks, boats, guns, and clothes. They have a little bit of everything. This is even just a fun place to come look around. I almost bought a meat grinder once just by walking around this store. They have great signage as well. When you are driving north on 75 in Ocala you see signs that say 34 miles away and it really is 34 miles. I recommend checking this place out!!! read more

I was exchanging a clothing product that has a lifetime warranty and was told (at Christmas time) that no receipt was required for exchanging for a new one. It sure didn't feel the same way as when I bought the same thing as a gift for Christmas. When they realized I wasn't going to "just go away" I was then handed over to Cynthia. Disclaimer: I will NEVER buy any fishing related items or boats from this store for a couple reasons. Number one, Gary's Tackle Box is closer to my house, but more importantly, I'd never have been treated like I was at BPS today. Whenever I've had a problem (very rare) with anything I bought from Gary's Tackle they've ALWAYS gone above and beyond to ensure that I'm happy. This was true even when my father had Gary's as his customer. Gary's Tackle Box also has an unmatchable amount of local fishing knowledge for both salt & fresh water fishing. It doesn't matter if it's the least experienced person at Garys, Paul, Don, or the man himself (Gary) I know that I will always feel more like a family guest or member. I ordered & paid for a left handed Savage 110 tactical bolt action rifle via their website. Went to fill out the background check 5 days later after getting an email alerting me that it had arrived. Despite having paid for the gun 5 days prior I was told to come back in another 5 days; which I did not have to do when I purchased from other shops online. I moved last year, and remembered that my home address no longer matches my DL. so, I brought my new US passport and an unopened piece of mail from the IRS to avoid another delay. After waiting in line for 45 minutes, I explained this to the clerk, who got a manager (10 more minutes), only to have this guy tell me that they couldn't accept ANY of my 3 government issued identifications! I laughed and asked for either a refund or a transfer, but the manager said that a hunting/fishing license would work, which they just so happen to sell. 35$ later I got my rifle along with a Florida fishing license. Other than purchasing firearms I still shop here and recommend it to other shooters too. read more

First time at bass pro, it is a more sports man-centered megastore. I went to look at kayaks and my wife ended up getting a decent pair of hiking boots at a good price. It is the most impressive themed store that I have visited, the aquarium and landscapes had local Florida wildlife and fish which I thought was very cool. customer service is not a priority here. i dropped my boat off with an appointment to have a few warranty issues dealt with as well as a bimini top installed, a new helix 7 installed, and some l.e.d lights installed. i called 3 times over an 18 day period and could not get a return call from greg (service manager) to give me an eta on when my boat would be complete. i drove the hour over to the bass pro to get some gear out of my boat, when i found it sitting in the same spot as i left it, only the jack had been run all the way down so water was standing 4 inches in the bottom of the boat. i took my boat home and told them i was not happy. they didn't seem to care at all. save yourself the headache and take it anywhere else. guess that's what i get for expecting local customer service from a big box store. read more
