Beautiful shop and really friendly people. They carry a good selection of high end gear. What more can you ask for?

I then told him I was going on a trip, and he recommended that I come to the shop and get a mask and snorkel. As soon as I walked in he was so kind and inviting. And to make it even better the dog, Rusty, was the best greeter ever! I've actually never been in a scuba store so I had no idea what was in there. Lloyd gave me a tour of the facility and even gave me a brief history of his over 30 year stint in Gainesville. He is beyond knowledgeable! He has been a master cave dive instructor for 25 years. What's great about this shop is that Lloyd has tested everything that he sells. He immediately was able to place me in 3 masks and then walked me through which one might be the best for me. He has a 100% satisfaction guarantee and told me that if that mass prove to be not the best fit then I would be able to return it and he would fit me for another. That makes shoving out 70 bucks for a mask a little less daunting. I really enjoyed his shop and he comes highly recommended. I will definitely be going back!

I recently…read moretook the open water course here and the amount of things they hid from you until you paid could fill a book. Firstly, this is a dive shop in Jacksonville but the training does not take place in the ocean but a hundred miles away from the shop past gainsville for which you have to provide your own transportation, accommodation, and transport all of the rental equipment as well. Next, the amount of people that they allow to take this course at a time is way too many. For my open water course there was one instructor and ten students. 90% of each dive we were forced to be underwater, cold, not doing anything while the instructor made his rounds to the other 9 students. Not only was the instructor split between the open water students, but he was also actively training advanced students as well on the same days. This means the open water students were constantly waiting for the instructor to be done with the advanced students before we could get our training and go on our dives. What could have been done in 3 hours was stretched to 8 hour days because of the dive shop's greed for more customers. The instructor himself did seem like a good guy but the organization, the lack of shared information, and the fact that twice as many people were allowed to sign up as there should've been made this an awful experience where I was wishing I had gone with any other shop.

As a certified NAUI/CMAS/SSI Advanced SCUBA Diver, I am pretty "particular" with the Dive Shops I…read moredo business with as well as the Dive Training & Excursion Programs - for me it's all about the first-rate quality "experience" and safe/comprehensive instruction rather than the "product-push" centric focus shops I hate having to deal with (kind of like buying cars). So when I connected with Bil Gates (Bil it's one "L" real name no kidding) at Scuba Rite who is both Manager and Instructor of the local JAX Scuba Rite Shop off Belfort Rd, I was so pleased to know that he "gets it" and "gets me!" I love that Scuba Rite is very quality training focused and makes this the primary element of their business model. They are moving away from equipment sales and laser-focusing on their broad training curriculum of Courses towards Diver 1-4, Master Diver, Nitrox Diver and Instructor Diver Level Certifications. Moreover, Scuba Rite provides customers with a "try SCUBA" experience (single and couples) which allows first-timers to "get your feet wet" and safely explore the underwater world without full-certification. IMO, this is a great progression towards the full certification program (Diver 1). The best part of what Scuba Rite offers is the fabulous locations that they use for their training and excursion dives: Troy Springs, Fanning Springs, Blue Springs, Devils Den Springs and my personal favorite Ginnie Springs (where I completed my NAUI Openwater 1 Rec Diver Certification). I highly recommend Scuba Rite if you are looking for Dive Training & Excursion Programs that are first-rate in "experience" and instruction!

Since my last review was over a decade ago, probably time for an update. I don't come to Ginnie as…read moreoften as other area springs but it's worth a visit now and then--on weekday mornings ideally if you want to freedive, swim, and miss the crowds of the weekend. It's a good camping destination, too. For me, the main draw however is freediving and there's plenty here to see. You cannot and should not by any means enter caves as a freediver--it's forbidden and even for highly-experienced freedivers, dangerous. If we freedivers don't want to wear out our proverbial welcome, yes, we need to behave. Cave-certified SCUBA divers are the only ones to enter caves. I want to address some things which came up between my own observations and what I've read in other reviews here. For one, the food. This isn't a good place to get good food. If you want something nice, get it "in town" in High Springs or bring something to cook if camping. For that matter, bring your snacks and gear because expectedly things are a bit overpriced at the merch store here. If you don't what the place to be loud, busy, and long lines then don't come on weekends and holidays. It's that simple. This is a business and they'll let in as many people as they safely can let in. As far as loud music and uneven enforcement of rules, I think this just comes down to different employees acting their own way. Most summer help is students, they're not going to have the discernment and acumen of a veteran police officer in dealing with people. Most are nice, some are lax, some overzealous. About the bath houses and other facilities. I think things are in pretty good shape--on par with bath houses at campgrounds in the Ocala National Forest, in example. Nothing was horribly dirty any time I was there but folks--this is camping. Remember that. I don't see the need for tram or shuttle, either. Maybe for disabled or infirm folks but most of us can simply walk between springs and should. Overall I feel Ginnie is well-run for what it is, with your normal business caveats like they'll charge what they can get away with in their store which is exactly why you want to buy stuff at Walmart or whatever prior to coming here. It's a great place to camp and unique, beautiful, springs you'll remember your entire lifetime.
