I then told him I was going on a trip, and he recommended that I come to the shop and get a mask and snorkel. As soon as I walked in he was so kind and inviting. And to make it even better the dog, Rusty, was the best greeter ever! I've actually never been in a scuba store so I had no idea what was in there. Lloyd gave me a tour of the facility and even gave me a brief history of his over 30 year stint in Gainesville. He is beyond knowledgeable! He has been a master cave dive instructor for 25 years. What's great about this shop is that Lloyd has tested everything that he sells. He immediately was able to place me in 3 masks and then walked me through which one might be the best for me. He has a 100% satisfaction guarantee and told me that if that mass prove to be not the best fit then I would be able to return it and he would fit me for another. That makes shoving out 70 bucks for a mask a little less daunting. I really enjoyed his shop and he comes highly recommended. I will definitely be going back!

I had already researched numerous shops to compare courses and price so the sale was as good as done. I only had two questions I needed answered. Unfortunately, Rob was more concerned with where I had completed my basic open water and ironically telling me about their (First Coast Divers) recent "recon" of Divers Supply where they found customer focus lacking. At one point, he literally stopped his conversation with me mid-sentence to strike up a conversation with an apparent friend that just walked in the shop. Leaving me awkwardly standing there. Considering I am a new diver and not "married" to, or particularly loyal to any one dive shop, I find it very hypocritical for one business to bash another business as they literally do the very same thing! In the end, since I couldn't keep his focus on our conversation for more than 30 seconds at a time I finally got fed up and left. $900 still in my pocket and back to the drawing board. I truly hope this was a fluke and First Coast Divers does a better job keeping their focus on their students than he did on his customer.

I pretended he told me his name was Bob, and I pretended that Bob told me to enter the store. Pretend or not, that turtle drove me to the store. Fortunately, I listened to Bob. This is despite not being a diver. But I am a snorkeler! In fact, the next time someone asks me my hobby, I'm going to say, "I'm a snorkeler." I have never heard that before. I bought some snorkel equipment and headed to Florida Springs. You know what kind of fish I saw there? Me neither. I just know they were little colorful ones. I also saw many of Bob's friends, many of which said hello. As far as the shopping experience goes, A+. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended--even if you only snorkel.

So when I connected with Bil Gates (Bil it's one "L" real name no kidding) at Scuba Rite who is both Manager and Instructor of the local JAX Scuba Rite Shop off Belfort Rd, I was so pleased to know that he "gets it" and "gets me!" I love that Scuba Rite is very quality training focused and makes this the primary element of their business model. They are moving away from equipment sales and laser-focusing on their broad training curriculum of Courses towards Diver 1-4, Master Diver, Nitrox Diver and Instructor Diver Level Certifications. Moreover, Scuba Rite provides customers with a "try SCUBA" experience (single and couples) which allows first-timers to "get your feet wet" and safely explore the underwater world without full-certification. IMO, this is a great progression towards the full certification program (Diver 1). The best part of what Scuba Rite offers is the fabulous locations that they use for their training and excursion dives: Troy Springs, Fanning Springs, Blue Springs, Devils Den Springs and my personal favorite Ginnie Springs (where I completed my NAUI Openwater 1 Rec Diver Certification). I went back only because i needed some tanks for a dive and against my better judgment i might add. What does this kid not get? I rented tanks for a dive on Wednesday. We had to abort the dive due to weather offshore. He called me and asked for the tanks back because he had a big class. Understood! Remember tanks were not used. I asked him his policy and he said i don't get money back and i don't get credit for a future dive. Complete douche bag!!!!! I can promise you I'll never darken his sorry door again. I've heard many other negative experiences about Ryan. Complete jerk! Stay away!!!!

Our first stop was near a sanctuary site in King's Bay that was absolutely packed with manatees that we could not see in the murky waters. It was an incredibly "up close and personal" experience--you literally could not see the manatees until they were right next to you. The location was the Three Sisters Springs. Here, the water clarity was phenomenal. We were able to see the manatees in their entirety--huge, graceful forms gliding, rolling and swimming past us. I would highly recommend this tour operator if you are looking for a great manatee adventure.

Paul was easy to talk to and made the experience super welcoming and easy. The class size was small (3 people including my boyfriend and I) which i appreciated because it helped us get a more thorough explanation of everything and we were able to have a more personalized learning experience. I can be a bit nervous and he never once pushed me out of my comfort zone and if i felt like something was too much for me he never made me feel bad about it and I'd highly recommend him to anyone.
