We are in town for some skiing at Gore. We were pleased to return. It has been some years. What a bargain a bud light bottle was $3.50! I had the up north salad since I had a big lunch, no protein added but I bet the NY strip steak would have been a chefs kiss! Hubs got the Turkey & Brie panini. He should've asked for no onions on it. They looked pickled or turned color because of the jam. Housemade chips to round out the dish. We were in & our in 45 minutes. Lady was really sweet with us on the phone. It's pretty challenging to find their menu somewhere so we had a lot of questions on the phone. She explained everything super kindly to us and we didn't feel like a burden. The food was good, hot and a decent quality. The burger was cooked perfectly to temp which is challenging for takeout. I'll be generous and go with four stars, since we were seated right away, the food was really good and they were very nice. However, we arrived on a Sunday night where it was apparent they were completely at capacity in terms of their cooks and service. We waited almost an hour for our appetizer (baked brie) to arrive at the table! When it arrived, it was a great portion and extremely tasty, but we had been outdoors most of the day and we were starving. We also had a considerable drive ahead of us to get home. Waited a bit longer to get our entrees- I had the venison chili (delicious, although a rather small portion for a bowl) and my bf had pork chops. Our server was friendly and apologetic for the wait, but it was a bit unnerving that many other tables were served before us, even though they arrived after us. The party to our right basically ate their entire meal before we even got our appetizer. Not sure exactly what went wrong, but our server explained to us as we were checking out that it was an extremely busy night. I would certainly come back here as the food was really good, but just a caveat, that you could be in for a wait. We tried to call ahead and make a reservation, but no one answered the phone. They have a recording that basically says if they are busy, sorry, they're not picking up the line. Ambience is okay, but the food is way better than the surroundings would indicate. Every year we come up to North Creek, for whitewater rafting for a weekend, one restaurant we alway make sure to stop in is Basil & Wicks. There is outdoor seating on the porch or sit inside, either way you will enjoy whatever you choose. Good drink selection and great service. We were a party of eight, and they put us on the stage in the main dining room. Lighting was poor some of us used our phones for lighting, until the owner came by and turned up the lights on the platform. But all in all it was good. Ciao for Now. read more

After a day on the nearby Rail Bike (so fun!) through the woods today, we ate at this beautiful woodsy spacious restaurant. I've never watched Hell's Kitchen, but I had the show's featured Black Forest Chicken, and it was so tasty! Basil/parm/egg light breading made the chicken delicately flavored. The spinach-mushroom risotto went well with it. However, my hubby's traditional eggplant parm was not so special - perhaps he should've instead chosen the HK special version of it with walnut pasta. He is sorry he hadn't tried the sweet pea and onion risotto with warm walnut mushroom salad. Cocoa was watery, fresh apple cider was good, but even tho the PB pie had a terrific variety of ingredients - oreo graham crust, PB mousse, chocolate ganache, and actual peanuts, somehow the whole wasn't as great as the parts. However, the servers - 3 at last count - were all attentive with friendly advice and often checking on us. read more

We were in North River to go on a white water rafting trip with ARO down the Hudson River. After the wonderful adventure we asked our guide where a good place would be to have dinner before we went back to our vacation rental in Old Forge. He suggested Basil & Wick's. We got there right as they opened and were seated right away and very well attended to. The restaurant is very pretty, all wood decor on theme with water and ski activities you associate with the area, and very clean. The menu had a fair amount of options and there were weekly specials as well. Not being able to decide we chose 4 appetizers and my SO also ordered a burger. The seared diver scallops appetizer was delicious and I regretted not just getting the dinner version instead because it was one of the best dishes we tried. The menu seemed to be celebrating veg that was currently in season and many dishes included some very delicious grilled sweet corn. We also had the two hot dogs app with venison chili and those were very good. You could share those, another app and some onion rings and leave very full and happy. The High Peaks poutine was a riff on poutine using potato pancakes and was pretty good but the potato pancakes themselves were in want of salt. They clearly had herbs and maybe some sour cream or other dairy addition but needed salt badly and were much better after I salted them furiously. The toppings were however well seasoned and delicious including beef short ribs and grilled portabellas so I'd highly recommend any dish with those ingredients too. We also ordered a weekly special app that was $12 and contained 3 perfect fat shrimp in a little cup with layers of guac and corn salsa. It was delicious. The burger my SO ordered was the Showcase Burger with shortrib meat, caramelized onion, bourbon glaze and gouda. He added bacon I believe. It was very good but perhaps a bit too saucy if that's possible. Messy and delicious. The onion rings we ordered with the burger were perfection and came in a YUGE portion. I suggest that as a side upgrade. The chef Billy Trudsoe (who has been on Hell's Kitchen) came out to ask us how we liked our meals which was nice and we had a little chat about our home city of Buffalo which he was planning to visit soon and we recommended our favorite restaurants to him (Prescott's Provisions and Oliver's) and had a philosophical chat about where to get Buffalo wings as well (We recommended Bar Bill and Gabriel's Gate over Anchor Bar or Duffs). read more

Try Basil & Wick's for the first time last night. It atmosphere is like a lodge. It was a little loud and yet the restaurant was only half full. A lot of noise coming from the bar area. Upon arriving we were greeted and seated promptly. Our waitress was polite and attentive throughout our dinner. To get the drinks had to scan a QR code that was a little difficult because you have to connect to their WiFi before you can see the drink menu. Possibly just give out a printed menu as they do for the specials. We had the scallop and poutine appetizers we were delicious. We had the Salmon, Scallops, and Short Rib for our main courses which were delivered to our table by the Chef! The flavors were amazing. Might consider staying open a little longer once the summer season officially starts. Overall a really good experience. With a tweak or two would be a 5 star review. read more

Was at this restaurant about 2 years ago and left a bad review. It was really bad. NOT ANYMORE! We had fantastic food and service. There is a new chef, decor is the same and the place was hopping! There were four daily specials. My daughter, wife and I all had different sandwiches and the all looked amazing and tasted even better! My daughter loved her hamburger and fries and polished off the whole plate in minutes. We tried two delicious deserts, both were fantastic and generously sized. Fast service and wonderful waitstaff. The super nice owner stopped by to help with the new QR code payment. It was a huge surprise on how great the food is now. I highly recommend going here now. The atmosphere was great with a campfire going, outdoor dining and live band. The staff has always been great! They were the saving grace years ago and now they have the food to make this a spectacular restaurant! The owners responded to my earlier review and apologized for our bad experience of three years ago. It was a VERY nice response and part of why we gave them a second chance. Casual dressed customers can enjoy fine dining among the north creek rolling mountains. We sat during an early evening dining period (around 5pm on a sunday) where the music was softly playing in the background but the warm laughter of the patrons and staff invited conversations and a good time. There's no gimmick, just good food to speak for itself. For apps: The special clam stew which was lighter than expected but warmed our belly's for the entree. I shared the bowl with one other person. Entree: (the boyfriend but he let me try) the featured black forest chicken. The crusted chicken didn't feel heavily fried or thickly breaded. It paired nicely with the mushroom risotto which was firm and perfectly cooked. I don't care much for overly soft or sticky risotto. This could have easily been a heavy dish but it was rather delightful instead. I had the diver scallops which were... OMG! I let out a happy dance upon first mouth full. The scallops were light and buttery. Perfectly pan seared, your fork will do the job with no need of a knife, as it should be. I've been dying for scallops and most miss the mark (not horrible, but not what I needed) but this finally cured my craving! I'm a sucker for gnocchi so this dish is a no brainer for me and I would recommend it time and time again. Staff: Everyone was friendly. Samantha was our server and answered any questions we had. Their friendliness was genuine and service was quick. Even Chef Billy himself came to check in on us which never happens in most places. We didn't sit outside, or by the pub, but those options were there if that's what you wanted. They offered drinks but we didn't have any during this visit. Dessert was also offered and it looked amazing, I just wish I had the room in my belly. I don't normally eat dessert so I didn't save room but I surely was tempted. I'm not even a winter/cold weather person and already considered to come back during that time literally inspired by this dining experience, and the people we met in town. An amazing find! We spent all day in between hiking trying to figure out a nice place for dinner for my boyfriends birthday, super tricky being the holiday and on a Monday. Indoor and outdoor seating available and they have a massive antler chandelier that was so neat! Food and drinks arrived quickly, everything tasted incredible. A great dinner stop on the way out of ADK after a great day of paddling! (We arrived before dinner rush.) The U10 diver scallops were enormous and perfectly cooked, and with gnocchi, was delicious. The pork (and peach) flatbread was a crazy delicious mix of flavors, approved by the whole table. The veggie burger was great and there are morevegan/vegetarian options. He came around and greeted everyone at all the tables. Our waitress Becca was an absolute sweetheart! She handled our large group with such ease and was very friendly. With such a large group we got to try a little bit of everything from the menu...Some of my faves were the Seared Diver Scallops, High Peaks Poutine, Chicken Wings, Braised Beef Short Ribs (part of the Shorty's Pasta), and the bread pudding and s'mores cake desserts. Stopped Saturday night with a party of three and met the owner, Jane. We liked the atmosphere and staff. However, we never ate there due to the rebranded "pop up menu". We wished some simple pub food or a burger but that wasn't possible. The only eating options were from a pop up menu of "Gypsy" styled eats... Mmmmmm. No thank you as each was not at all appetizing and only a very few choices available. I can understand being creative but one still might cater to a crowd who wishes simple dishes at a local themed restaurant. Me and my boyfriend came here for a three year anniversary. Everything was perfect! We had the baked brie and butternut bisque soup to start and they both were fantastic! Best baked brie I've ever had! And for dinner I got the diver scallops and they were amazing, they were cooked and seasoned perfectly. As for service we had the sweetest waitress and the owner Jane even came over to make sure our meal was to our liking. We had a lovely conversation with her about our weekend as well. The chef was also recently on Hell's Kitchen! Overall an amazing find and every time we're in North Creek we'll be back! read more

Stopped after a grueling day of hiking for a casual dinner. Burgers were great. We are wine drinkers and there was not a wine available for less than $45. They need to have other options especially for local people who will support the restaurant in the shoulder seasons. Since our dinner they have come out with a full wine list and now the least expensive bottle of wine is $50. Because of this we will not be returning which is such a shame because the burger was great. read more

Went here twice on a recent stay. They are doing what they call a Gypsy kitchen model where different chefs takeover the kitchen and cook up their specialties. The first night we went the good was Vietnamese/Chinese and was delicious. The service was horrible. No utensils, no asking how things tasted, had to track someone down for check, etc.,.... I get that there are staffing shortages but there was a manager on site who seemed not to be engaged with what was happening and was standing at the hostess station as things were falling apart around her. Despite that, we went back a few days later for the Kiki burger night. We literally waited 20 minutes to have our drink order taken and 40 minutes for our food order to be taken. Again, this same individual did not appear to be engaged in communicating with patrons or assisting the staff. Again, food was great. read more

We came here after our camping trip and needed something comforting. I ordered the fish and chips which was lovely. Crispy, moist and fresh! We were seated at the garden due to covid and it was a perfect outdoor seating. It was just us and we could enjoy our meal. I took out a star cause the smoothies we ordered were too sweet and the burger my boyfriend had ordered was not that great. More than a two and a half hour experience. I tried so hard not to take it out on the waitress, however, she proved to be a big part of the problem. We sat for over two hours after finally ordering before being served. Steak was raw. Ordered medium. It was inedible. Asked for sauce that was supposed to accompany one dish and never received it. Waitress barely checked on us. Table was never cleared of drink glasses that stacked up because we sat so long. Never offered an apology. I had to take it out of her tip which actually killed me because I've never, ever done this before. Things happen. It's how you handle them. This was handled extremely poorly.
