Huge plate of garlic, and pita bread ($4.99 or $5.99 I believe)

Eh. Came here today, our original plan was Brome Burger in Dearborn but with the snow, we decided to stay someplace closer to my boyfriend's apartment area. I had a $20 Restaurant.com thing which is why we chose this place, plus we both like Mediterranean food. We had recently gone to Malek Al Kabob, in Taylor, which was excellent, so Bashar's had large shoes to fill. We walked in, around noontime, and the place was completely empty, with no music playing. There was a sign that seat Wait to be Seated so we waited, soon someone came out to seat us. There was a poster on the door advertising a $6.99 lunch deal that sounded pretty good - a shwarma sandwich, fries or rice, and a fattoush salad - but the waiter said we could either do that OR use my restaurant.com coupon. I wasn't super surprised at that but it was still annoying. Bread and garlic were not complimentary, which makes Bashar's lose a star from me automatically - at Malek they were, and at other places they charge a small fee; here it was $4.99 or $5.99 for a medium serving of garlic, I believe, with pita bread. We did get a HUGE portion of garlic, but still. The garlic was very tasty, it was a bit spicier than others I have had. I got the chicken kabob sandwich and it had chicken, garlic, onions, and red and green peppers in it. It was very good but tasted more like a pita sandwich than kabob - I couldn't taste the garlic that much. My boyfriend had a chicken shwarma sandwich. The portions are very large here, for $4.99 for a sandwich, especially, but we both agreed that Malek's is better, taste-wise. Overall not a bad place, but I wasn't super impressed by it, either.

Chicken Swarma, with garlic sauce and pickles.

Hubby and I recently had lunch at Bashar's. We're foodies and eat out often. We love Mediterranean food and Bashar's is excellent. They are open, even though a white small sign by the road says they now offer takeout. We at first was wondered if they were serving inside. Greeted promptly and sat quickly. We both got a cup of lentil soup, which was quite generous. Yummy and seasoned perfectly. I got a chicken swarma sandwich and hubby got a chicken kabob sandwich. Both came in grilled pita with a delicious garlic sauce. Mine had pickles; my favorite. Highly recommend this restaurant. If you love Mediterranean food, this is the best around. So many great restaurants were decimated by the shutdown in Michigan, they all need a chance at serving you. We moved here recently from Georgia (metro Atlanta area), and know good food when we find it. Give them a try. They also serve alcohol for those who enjoy a cocktail with their meals. We'll definitely be back! Almost forgot to take a photo, it was so good. Just captured my dish in photo.

Hummus, Fattoush, Deboned Chicken.

I love middle eastern and mediterranean food. Love it! I could eat it every day. As such, I am an extremely harsh critic of it, as I cook it myself often and have been spoiled by the Dearborn/Dearborn Heights area as I lived there for a few years. First of all, the owner (at least I think he was the owner there today) was so, so nice. The food came within a reasonable amount of time. I'll just dive right into it, listing off my thoughts on what I had. Deboned Chicken: Very, very tasty. Somewhat dry, but nicely seasoned and very flavorful. Great portion and the rice was excellent. Garlic (toum): EXCELLENT. 'nough said. Fattoush salad: Not used to the large chunks of tomatoes, or lettuce. I prefer everything much more condensed. The dressing was good, but Cedarland still takes the prize on that. The bread was not as fresh and Dearborn, but downriver does not get fresh pita daily...it has to be unfortunately transported, and that particular type of pita looses freshness FAST. Overall, OK, but not "amazing." Hummus: Although OK, I would consider their hummus an "area of opportunity." It almost appeared to be made from canned chickpeas, or maybe with a lower grade Tahini (not really sure). The portion size was very small for the price. Lentil Soup: Not my favorite. I make mine with red/orange lentils. This one was made with brown lentils and also had meat in it. Sorry, but i didn't really care for this. I think this place definitely as potential. It would be really great if they could work on some stand-out dishes that could go head-to-head with dearborn. Also, I think the pricepoint was a too high. Willing to keep going back.

Our server, bus boy, and supporting staff was so welcoming. The area was full of customers and the clanging of cooking utensils and the small chatter made the atmosphere very cozy. And then the food came, ahh the food. Hot and steaming, smelling of the herbs and spices, bountiful and nutritious. The selection we made was a platter made for two. So beautiful, bountiful, nutritious, and delicious. We chose grilled vegetables instead of the rice or noodles( less carbs). Lamb, chicken, beef and vegetables. Yummy. We also had a mango strawberry smoothie as well. There was so much food that we had left overs! Please stop and enjoy this place. It will delight you and your senses. Stay Yelping my friends!

The minty lemonade was tasty. The falafel sandwich was simply gross: tasted like it was made from a cheap mix -- both the texture and color (see pic) were off. Definitely would not recommend. The fries were surprisingly good. We also enjoyed the red spicy garlic sauce. The service was not great. Our weirdly cheerful server, Oksana, was serving multiple tables, and was quite busy -- we had to flag her down to get our bill after she visited our neighboring table THREE times without checking in on us. All this while three young bearded stood behind the counter watching the dining room but doing little but scroll on their phones and talk to each other. Another three bearded young men, apparently cooks, sat in a back corner table on their phones... one of them wore black (latex?) gloves and continued to wipe his nose, lips, and forehead! Not good.

The restaurant itself is very simple looking inside, but clean and spacious enough. The menu offers either sandwiches or bowls and a large variety of condiments to customize your order. The amount of variety is overwhelming at first, but I find keeping it simple is the best way to go. I ended up getting the chicken cream chop with bulgur wheat as my base (trying to keep it healthy) and added some basic vegetables with pickles. I had it drizzled with Princess sauce which was really good even if I can't describe what it tasted like at this moment. While I was dining the owner asked me how I was enjoying my meal and he offered me a small sample of the beef shawarma at no additional cost. I'm not kidding when I say that this is the best beef shawarma meat I've had in Michigan. The beef was so crispy on the outside, tender on the inside and had a nice mix of lean meat laced with fat. He even let me get a free cup of tzatziki sauce to dip it in, which was generous on his part. I almost forgot to mention that the fried chicken here is exceptional and cooked fresh to order in my case. Seeing how passionate the owner is, it makes sense why the food is as good as it is and why they are highly regarded. Wish they were closer to me.

The food was outstanding. The lamb was incredibly tender, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The fresh bread, rice, and overall quality of the meal reminded me why Dearborn has become one of my favorite food destinations whenever I'm in Michigan. What made the experience even better was the service from Murad. From the moment I sat down, Murad was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind. He got my food out quickly, checked on me throughout the meal without being intrusive, and before I left, he thoughtfully brought me a wonderful cup of tea to finish the evening. His warm smile, positive attitude, and professionalism made a great meal even more memorable. Restaurants can serve excellent food, but great hospitality is what keeps people coming back. I did enter through the rear of the establishment since I parked there. The menu is pretty extensive. Ended up getting the half order of hummus. A basket of warm pita and two sauces came out. I initially thought that was the pita. This was complimentary I believe. The garlic sauce is solid. The other one is a spicy sauce of some sort. This spicy one was super good. The hummus came out. Very smooth and flavorful. For my entree, I got the Shish Kafta. You can choose between lamb or chicken. I went with the chicken with a side of rice and my choice of soup or salad. I opted for the lentil soup. That came out piping hot. This was delicious. Flavorful and good texture. My entree came out and wow. The portion is way more than what you pay for. Came with 4 very huge blocks of chicken kefta. Nicely seasoned and grilled to perfection. Had a nice char on the outside, but still juicy on the inside. I used the two sauces from earlier to give it an extra kick. I washed it all down with a mint lemonade. This was absolutely refreshing. Clean place, very good food and the customer service was solid.
