Pitchfork Fondue Western Outdoor Cookout - Great food

Pitchfork Fondue Western Outdoor Cookout

First let's set some expectations, this isn't a restaurant and it doesn't serve fondue. However the…read moresimple dinner service they offer is delicious and it's a unique dining experience. The whole affair is outdoors seating and cooking etc. with plenty of room for big groups. It can be confusing if it's your first time so be patient and expect a leisurely meal with time between courses. If you're visiting Pinedale this is worth the time to go.

If you are in or close to Pinedale and want to experience something different and fun for dinner…read moreyou should definitely check this place out. I have over 2,000,000 miles flying for business and I have traveled all over the world and honestly I've never seen a place like this. Casual place not fancy in the least. Just wear what you feel comfortable in. All outdoors. They shut down mid-Sept. You sit at picnic tables under large tents. They have 3 Corn hole sets you can play before, during or after eating. They serve tea and lemonade. You can BYO beer, wine, soda etc. Coolers w iced drinks...yea bring it. Its encouraged. You are welcome to stay as long as you want eating, drinking, talking and playing corn hole while looking at the Wind River Range. The place is exactly what its name says. They cook the food on pitchforks dipped in hot oil over a fire like a giant fondue. Literally everything except the salad, melon and dinner rolls is cooked in those hot oil vats. It starts with all you can eat, fresh made potato chips cooked in the vats. Then they bring you dinner rolls and kettle cooked bison brats. This is all basically appetizers. Meanwhile you are free to go make a simple salad with choice of dressings and choose from an assortment of fresh melon chunks (as much as you want). Then they take your order for dinner. You choose either Sirloin Steak, Chicken or Trout. All will be cooked in the hot oil vats. My wife got trout and I got the Steak (medium rare thank you) and we shared so we both had surf and turf. You get a potato. You get fried onions if you want them. If you have kids and they don't want the steak/chicken/trout they can have a hot dog cooked in the vats with or without bun. They have like six different sauces you can put on any or all of your food. After dinner you get your choice of a brownie or a Lemon Bar. To me the brownie was what I would call a chocolate Texas Sheet Cake. Both had powdered sugar sprinkled over. I had the brownie. Whatever you want to call it...it was dang good. My wife likes Lemon more than chocolate so she had the Lemon Bar. She said it was OK/Good And that is the entire menu. The people are SUPER friendly. It is run by a family and it feels like you were invited to their backyard for a cookout. Nobody would confuse this with "Fine Dining" but honestly, if you want Fine Dining this isn't the place. Everything was good/very good. Really didn't have anything that we were not happy with. Everything described is included for the fixed price. (was $38+tax) per adult, no idea what kids cost) The food is a 4/5, the people are a 5/5 and the relaxed/fun dinner experience is a 5/5 I highly recommend this place if what you read above sounds fun/interesting to you. We would go back when we visit Pinedale again for sure. Great for a family get together or group of friends.

Boulder Bar & Grill - Grilled 16oz local Ribeye w/ fresh mashed potato (w/ skins!) and veggies (grilled Brussels sprouts!) totally worth the $29.

How can you go wrong with ranch-style "almost entirely homemade" comfort food? I guess you could,…read morebut this place has it dialed. They truly care, and it shows in the food preparation and taste. We decided to give the ranch-promise a test and jumped for the $29 16oz grilled ribeye. Cooked mid-rare, it was deliciously tender and well seasoned. The cut of meat was the star of the show, not to be overpowered by any seasoning or sauce. Perfect! The Brussels sprouts were tender and slightly charred (my favorite), and the fresh mashed potatoes and brown gravy were home style comfort food by definition. It is a LOT of food, so feel free to share (would be like 2 6 oz steaks if you choose not to chew the fat). Very happy to have had this before a week of freeze dried and camp-prepared food while we backpack in the Wind River range nearby!

She asked for drink order and brought those to the table. She asked if we were ready to order. My husband said he needed a minute. She took one step back from the table and stood there holding her pen and order pad. Awkward. We placed our order, and the waitress disappeared. She returned later to bring our food and disappeared again. The food was not great. Potatoes were undercooked and biscuits were hard even covered in gravy. However, the cook was the best part of the visit. He was very friendly. The waitress showed up briefly to drop off our bill, and you guessed it...disappeared. When the cook came to collect our plates, I asked of he could check is out. He said sure and went to fi d the waitress. When she brought our change to the table, I immediately realized the change wasn't right. Hubby gave her a fifty to cover a tab of $33.31. She brought back change in the amount of $11.69. Hubby was about to put it in his wallet when I saw what she gave him. I told him that it was short by $5. I called her over and told her it was wrong. She smiled and went to get a five out of the register. Thank you, Stephanie G. for getting our stay at the property off to a good start.

For dinner wife had the ribeye steak which was huge with similar sized helpings of mashed potatoes and green beans. I went with the burger and homemade fries. We didn't stay at the lodge because we were camping, but we had the pleasure of sitting at the bar with Dominique for dinner, who completely made our night serving the BEST cocktails! And the food was AMAZING too! You can of course fulfill your carnivore healthy appetite, but they have vegan and gluten free items too! It really isn't that far from the Town of Pinedale, so if you are looking for a GREAT restaurant, I would absolutely recommend the drive up to have a spectacular dinner with incredible ambiance. But the great dinner and service wasn't the only part of our eventful night. After leaving the restaurant, we accidentally took a wrong turn onto a road that we thought was the campsite and while backing up, we almost flipped our van over a cliff! It was literally dangling from the side of the road!!! So, because we had established such a great relationship with Dominique, I decided to call the restaurant to see if they could help. And by the grace of GOD, got reception and was able to speak to the owner, Kristine. Within minutes, she arrived and so did Dominique with a flatbed truck, and with the 2 vehicles, they were able to pull us out!!!! I have never been so grateful in my life for these 2 angels that saved our lives. They had been working all day and didn't even blink to come and help. And when I asked how I could repay them, they said, "Welcome to Wyoming, please just pay it forward." So, this review is not only to encourage everyone to eat, drink and stay at a BEAUTIFUL and SPECTACULAR establishment, it's a plea for me to be able to "pay it forward" a little bit to some really exceptional people who deserve all the best life has to give.

Amazing way to celebrate our last night of vacation!…read more Walking into Gun Barrel Steak and Game House felt like a real Western experience with the log cabin feel and incredible taxidermy animas throughout. I even had to do a walk through of the entire restaurant to take it all in. No appetizers since I knew I'd be too full to eat a complete meal and we were getting on a flight early the next morning. We started off with drinks and I had a Wyoming Manhattan served with a plastic black rifle as my stir stick which I loved. And the drink was good and strong. Dinner: my husband had the Big Sky Ribeye with onion straws and was cooked to perfection (I had several bites!) and I had the bison ribs. Talk about tender! They were falling off the bone and the sauce was delicious. We really enjoyed our time at Gun Barrel. No room for dessert!
