I came to Dr. Machado's office courtesy of a super cheap discount-site coupon (as a result of not currently having dental insurance) to get X-rays, an exam and cleaning. Despite the good Yelp reviews, my expectations were pretty low, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that this is a mighty fine dental office. The office itselt isn't particularly fancy or super modern but everyone was really nice and Dr. Machado was extremely personable and gentle. He was very patient with and amused by my completely unfounded low dental self-esteem and general conviction that my teeth resemble a jagged row of Corn Nuts. I had a thorough exam, a gentle cleaning and although there was one small problem found, the good doc was straight with me about how quickly it really needed to be addressed. As a special bonus, I even learned a new flossing technique (I'm a super dedicated flosser who feels negligent if I don't floss 2x daily, so I thought I knew it all). I will be very happy to return to Dr. Machado for future care and would be glad to make him my official dentist as future insurance coverage allows (he is open to new patients). read more

At 66 years old, I've been going to dentists for a very long time. I can't remember any of them being as thorough, conscientious and competent as Dr Machado. He is also very friendly, congenial and has a terrific "bedside manner." His dental examination, cleaning and tartar/calculus scraping were done very professionally. He made several recommendations and offered a referral to an oral surgeon to address a possible cyst I have underneath one of my teeth. Was so impressed I told him and his dental hygienist that this was my new dental home! I asked her to make a follow up cleaning/exam appointment in 6 months. I had a routine exam, X-rays, and a cleaning at Dr. Machado's office and walked away feeling that this was a very "family dentist" type of experience. Everyone in the office was very friendly and helpful (the receptionist, the technician who did the X-rays, and, of course, Dr. Machado). I didn't have to wait in the waiting room past my appointment time (as is so often the case when I got to any sort of professional) and Dr. Machado was patient, pleasant, and helpful in talking about specific issues. He recommended that I have a few issues taken care of, but didn't pressure me to do anything. His exam was through and he cleaned my teeth personally (rather than relegating the task to a hygienist). The office looks like a storefront on the outside and that initially worried me, but, on the inside, it's a perfectly clean, organized and professional establishment. to ann s. Sharp instruments are imperative for proper cleaning of plaque. Please do a little research before you slam somebody in a profession you have no knowledge of. I've been going to Dr. Machado's office for 9+ years. His staff is amazingly friendly. They always remember me and ask how I and my kids are doing. They are always very complimentary "(you're doing something different with your hair, I really like your shirt". Yes, on the surface, socially chatty, but it makes me feel like I'm visiting friends. This makes the overall atmosphere for me feel relaxed and comfortable. Dr. Machado is a very empathetic person and is very responsive to possible/subtle nuckle-tightening on the chair arms when I am feeling anxiety. He immediately recognizes this and will take a couple minutes for a time-out to ask how I am feeling and what he can be doing differently to make me more comfortable. I remember a specific incidence when I was pregnant and needed to have some work done. The shots made me feel light-headed/woozy and he dug into HIS OWN LUNCH to give me his orange juice - straw and all - that brought me back to normal. I have had THOUSANDS, yes THOUSANDS, of dollars of work done on my teeth (insert childhood dental baggage here - never had ANY preventative treatment, cleaning or otherwise) and I have never regretted a single penny spent on him. He is amazing with his communication... He always spells out the work that HAS to be done, the work that SHOULD be done , the work that would buy me some time to my next visit, and the work he can do to maximize my insurance dollars. Prior to visiting Dr. Machado, I had a tooth that was pulled out (but could never afford to replace) and was so very self-conscious of my smile. Dr. Barton is like a Santa Claus, but for teeth. He's very kindly and compassionate and I felt immediately at ease. He spent a lot of time with me going over the exact state of my teeth, how to floss more thoroughly, and answering my numerous questions. I had some horrific experiences at the dentist when I was a tiny tot (flashback: being chased around and around the chair by a bunch of dentists and assistants before being strapped down and inflicted with incomprehensible pain hahah) so it meant a lot to have someone explain exactly what was going on and feel in control of the situation. In fact, I feel like I came away with probably the best dental experience of my life. I can't recommend him enough based on this initial visit (groupon). So if you're like me, don't be afraid! So I found a deal on livingsocial for a dental cleaning/x-ray/exam it led me here and I couldn't be happier. So I was a bit skeptical, but as a self employed piano teacher/ tutor for some reason I don't have dental insurance. . . . off I went. This little office is located in a small shopping center, the outside isn't much too look at and the parking lot is small but inside is homey, cute and very, very clean. The inside just has this relaxing charm and I felt so relaxed. The receptionist was oh so super nice, chatty and friendly. I just had some simple paper work and within no time I was ushered back by the assistant. She gently guided me through the x-rays and after like 15 I was done. She was super friendly as well and described the whole process so it could calm my nerves. Finally the dentist came to talk about my teeth, check my pockets (ouch - hate that part, but less now since I have happy teeth) and do the cleaning. He was gentle, kind, chatty without being overly so and described each step. He reminded me how to floss properly, talked about possible future problems but I left cavity free and with very clean teeth. The whole process left me liking the dentist again. DO NOT GO HERE! WORST DENTIST IN THE WORLD! He should have his licence taken away. I would not say this unless I was very serious. I understand this is someones lively hood but I need to protect people from having their teeth ruined like mine were. 1. He is so cheap you don't even get shots when they are drilling on you 2. I was in and out of his office for months while he was trying to correct his mistake, in the process I spent a ton of money. I have always had very healthy teeth and I got a few cavities all he had to do was fill them and in the process he destroyed an entire tooth. 3. What set me over the edge? - Just this morning ANOTHER filling fell out while I was flossing! 4. I went to another dentist, and actual good one and he was in SHOCK at what a BAD job DR. Machado did - in actual SHOCK! 5. The perfectly healthy tooth he destroyed (and I know it was healthy because I requested the x-rays and got a second opinion) was in constant pain until I got major work done by another dentist to fix the MISTAKE!!! 6. The worst part is, Dr. Machado did not even apologize, it was really disappointing. 7. I should have known by his crappy office and second hand equipment - next time I will trust my gut. They deserve no stars! The receptionist is rude and short with you. When I called, she gave me a month later appointment. I wanted a earlier one, and she said no. On the day of the appointment, I arrived just to be told by the same rude person that there office was closed!!! What the hell?!?!? She didn't say why nor apologize. She said to me in a condescending manner that there was nobody waiting the room and that they were obviously closed. On top of that, she said she called me and re-scheduled my appointment, which is not true because I checked my phone and there was no messages or missed calls. I got a groupon deal and went in today. The staff were very friendly, and Dr Machado was the most thorough dentist I have seen - I've seen 78 different dentists in the past. He explained to my questions thoroughly and gave me a sample for toothpaste that fits my gum better. His nurse is really nice but probably can do better with more training: she spilled water over on me and also didn't clean my teeth thorough. After seeing that there was still some stain on the sides of my front teeth before leaving the office, I went to ask she to clean the leftover stain, and she mentioned some random jargon and claimed that it could not be cleaned. Luckily Dr. Machado heard that and immediately stopped her and said that he would do the cleaning for me again until I got satisfied. He then personally cleaned off those stain for me to make sure that I was happy about it. Overall I would definitely go back again! read more

I redeemed my groupon yesterday at the San Tomas Dental Group. I haven't been very lucky with groupon purchases, they don't meet my expectations, but this one was definitely worth it. I walked into the office and was greeted by the receptionist and assistant. They were very nice and polite. They took me in and took my xrays. The assistant and both Dr.Machado were very patient. Dr.Machado was patient enough explain to me in detail what was wrong with each one of my tooth. He was very sweet and friendly...very welcoming. Usually when you use a groupon they want to rush you out, but you can see he truly cares about his patients and his patients' needs. I will definitely keep coming to this office because even though dentist offices have a stigma of being scary and intimidating, this office and staff receives their clients with a warm welcome. read more

While there were a couple of small snafus, last minute rescheduling and my chair not staying in place unless he hits the sweet spot, kinda funny really :), the exam itself was well done. I went here because I had an Amazon deal, and I honestly expected to be treated less well than regular customers, based on my experiences at other businesses where I've used a coupon before. I've been traumatized by dentists all my life and one visit to this office and years of damage have been undone. The staff is friendly and attentive. The doctor gave a through exam assuaging any fears and answering any questions. Also they have a digital x-ray in the office limiting the radiation exposure and amount of time and discomfort that traditional x-rays take. Great office, I have found a permanent dentist! read more

The dentist told me my child had terrible gingivitis and that she would need a series of deep cleaning treatments. My child then told me when the dentist was working, he was using harsh instruments when scraping her teeth. I felt he had tried to scratch my teeth but could not prove it also. When she went to the new dentist he told me my daughter's teeth were fine. Luckily there was not permanent damage to our teeth, but I don't trust the way he was using a sharp instrument and digging into our teeth. read more
