I've heard so many dental horror stories from others so I was a bit nervous when I first came to this dental office. It has now been going on 3 years, I pay them a visit every six months for teeth cleaning and I could not be more satisfied than I already am. One of their dental hygienist, Deana, is beyond expectations. She treats you like she's known you for awhile & answers all my questions. Yes, I always ask a lot of questions due to being a very curious woman. So if you're interested in a new dental office, this is your one. Dr. Benstock rescued my front tooth. My regular dentist at nearby Russian River dental told me I would need a very important front tooth EXTRACTED. Imagine my horror. She said there was a massive cavity through the entire center of the tooth and it might "crack in half like an egg shell" if she tried to fill it. What's more, she said I was likely not even a candidate for a crown. I have OCD so this was prime fodder for my tendency to dwell and it led to a general feeling of hopelessness. I was so upset, I was losing sleep over it, unable to relax at all. After around a week of neurotic worrying that I would soon be looking at either a 1500 dollar implant or a lifetime of bring treated like a homeless crackhead, I was referred to Dr Benstock by a friend who, like me, suffers from a terrible dental phobia. She said he's a miracle worker when it comes to difficult cases, and he's the only dentist she trusts. He doesn't take my insurance so this was all out of pocket but it was quite worth it. I was so nervous even going in for an exam. I thought for sure he was going to give me the same news as the first dentist. He took his own x-ray of the area as he thought the ones I'd brought didn't tell the full story and he even looked through the tooth with a small but very strong light. He said there was not in fact decay in the center, and the tooth could be filled! No extraction or root canal or crown needed! He was kind and easygoing and asked questions about my medical history which I always appreciate. I left feeling so relieved and so glad I'd sought out a second opinion. I let the office know about my phobia, and I was given a sedative for the visit which made the whole thing much more painless. And the tooth looks fabulous. There was a grey tone to it before, and it now looks like the rest of the teeth around it, and I'm not self conscious to smile anymore. :) Would certainly go back in future should I need to. read more

I was thoroughly unimpressed with this dentist. The office was very dated, and they don't seem to take much care with upgrades. The entire intake process was clunky and relied on manual forms with no way to submit the forms digitally, and yet they took the liberty of using digital services to spam me with requests for a review, which demonstrates that their priority is marketing, and not customer convenience. The cleaning was very rough, and my gums bled several times, which the hygienist just shook off as normal. My gums basically never bleed during a cleaning, and they haven't bled on a subsequent cleaning, which suggests that the hygienist just wasn't very good at her job. The worst part was when the dentist was doing his exam, and everything looked fine (I haven't had any dental issues in 12 years), then his eyes suddenly lit up excitedly and he informed me that I have gum recession, and he gave me a bill for several hundred dollars to address it. I recently got a second opinion, and the second dentist isn't concerned about the gum recession at all. I'd be very careful about taking advice from this dentist without seeking a second opinion. I definitely won't be back, but I've already found a dentist that I like a lot better. read more

I tried Scott Benstock here in Sebastopol when I had to have my wisdom teeth removed and I told him I'd have to go under because local anesthesia doesn't work well on me and in front of his whole office he told me the only way it doesn't work on me was if I do cocaine (which I don't) he kept going on and on accusing me and I was just in shock that someone who's supposed to be professional would even say something like that and on top of it dismiss my request to be put under for the procedure that I left in a rush and was stopped by his assistants on the way out who apologized to me for him and suggested I find someone else I've never in my life have felt so uncomfortable with a medical professional and wouldn't recommend him to anyone read more

Staff is amazing! Dr. Benstock is by far the best dentist I have worked with. He also does dental cosmetics and can take care of everything you need. From health to appearance of the teeth. The thing I like most about him is that he is always actively training and is up to date on the latest dental treatments. He is the best and staff has been the same for years. read more

Had great first visits! Perhaps because I was a new patient, I had an initial examination appointment. After that, they scheduled the cleaning appointment, with openings the next day. The hygienist was great! Vigorous but not callous. I've had a lot of discomfort w/ ultra sound cleaning along the roots in the past. But not this time! Also no whoopsies during deeper cleanings, like no bad pokes into the gums. Will be seeing again :) read more

This was my second visit with Dr. Benstock. I must stress that the dental work I have had done there (just cleanings) has been satisfactory. Clean office, professional dental technicians, and thorough cleanings. But that is it when it comes to professionalism. My visit today will be my last. I have always thought that Dr. Benstock was a little bit sketchy when trying to approach additional procedures. During my first visit, my then girlfriend was from Japan, where perfect teeth alignment isn't a very big deal. He kept pushing her to fix her misaligned molars, to the point where she felt very uncomfortable, and asked me for weeks after if I felt she needed to have major oral surgery. Not too cool. He also always pushed me to get professional whitening done, although I told him it was unnecessary. These small examples were precursors to the somewhat deceptive business practices I experienced today. I had called and made an appointment for a simple cleaning. During the appointment the tech told me she needed to take a few x-rays. I asked if it was necessary for the cleaning. She said it would only take a couple minutes. Fine, whatever. When the time came to pay the bill, I saw it was double the cleaning price. I asked for a reason, and was told I was also being charged for the x-rays, and a checkup. Huh? I told the receptionist that I was only here for a cleaning, and had asked the tech if the x-rays were even necessary, since I was only there for a cleaning. She said that no one 'forced me to get an x-ray'. I then pointed out that that was a deceptive business practice to pad the offices accounts. I was then told 'not to talk to her that way'. Huh? Sorry to point out in public that patients, not clients, patients were being nickel and dimed by deceptive tactics. At that point she threw up her hands and turned me over to Dr. Benstock who guided me into a private office, away from the waiting room, to discuss the matter. After explaining the situation again, Dr. Benstock did not agree, but agreed to charge me only for cleaning. On the way out the door the receptionist called me a disrespectful patient. Super professional. Never again. You can't try to steal from the public, then get angry or frustrated when they call you on it. read more

I have been going to Dr. Benstock for about six years and just have to take a moment to publicly compliment him and his staff for the excellent service and quality work. Recently I broke a tooth and needed to have it repaired. As usual, the staff was helpful and accommodating, including finding a time that worked with my schedule. But that and a clean, modern office are expected in dentistry. More importantly, I have always felt well cared for. Dr. Scott always asks if anything hurts to please let him know. The one time this happened a few years ago, he immediately stopped and injected more Novocaine. I also like the fact that his office uses state-of-the-art technology, This means, for example, that the digital X-Rays they use are far better than traditional because it only exposes you to about one tenth of the radiation. I'm also opposed to mercury-based fillings because of the very real risk of mercury leaching into the bloodstream, so he uses non-mercury amalgam. Last, Dr. Scott is a real human being. When my family needed help a few years ago, he and his staff stepped up and offered support. I will always remember that and appreciate that. I noticed a couple of negative reviews on this site from other patients, and I know that unhappy customers (every business has them) are more apt to express dissatisfaction on sites like this. But my experience with this office over six years has been nothing but five-star excellent! read more

My experience started with an emergency infected molar. It was nice of Dr. Benstock to come in on a weekend, but he just gave my daughter pain killer, not antibiotics, and an appointment for root canal. A day later her jaw was so swollen that she could not open it. Called back and he was like, "Oh, I guess I should have prescribe her antibiotics"... well, duh! A few days later the day of the root canal came. The inflammation was still so bad my daughter could not open her mouth and only mumble. He puts her in the chair and tells her to open her mouth for anesthesia. I'm happy I was in the room to ask what exactly he thought he was doing? He would have proceeded doing a root canal on this still heavily inflamed jaw, which is total madness. When I told him that I am not willing to have him proceed, he turned to my daughter, as if surprised -- "Oh, you can't open your mouth?" Could he really not have noticed that here entire face is like a balloon on the right side?? She's trying best she can for a 3/4" gap, and he keeps trying to push her to open more, and then he's like, "It's ok, we'll do it anyway." Told him that I would not allow this procedure being done under these conditions! He gets really rude and aggravated, probably because his office was empty, and he hated to lose the business. I've never seen somebody interact with a patient in pain so carelessly. read more

The work I received from Dr. Benstock completely screwed up the way I eat, probably for the rest of my life. The worst pain I have experienced in my life was at the hands of Dr. Benstock. Dr. Benstock insisted I get x-rays while I was pregnant, and I had to argue with him in order to not get one. I went in for 3 fillings, and the cavities needed to be scraped out, drilled, and filled. During the scraping part on one of my teeth, the novocaine wore off, and it HURT. He reapplied the topical novocaine, and it WORE OFF AGAIN during the drilling part. It was the worst pain I have ever felt, and a traumatic experience. He just reapplied the novocaine again, like it happened all the time or something. That tooth was filled, and gave me pain every time I bit down on anything. I talked to him on the phone, and he said he would have to smooth the filling out, because it was probably sticking up in places. He drilled it down, the whole time with me crying (because of the last time he had a drill in my mouth), and IT STILL HURTS when I eat, two years later. Dr. Benstock gave my mouth trauma, and I have had to rearrange the whole way I eat and chew food because of it. PLEASE DON"T VISIT HIM. read more

This is something I don't normally do unless it's meaningful, truthful and because of the real fact that a lot of reviews on yelp appear to me as a way for a few to vent. or complain. Clearly one can see through most sour reviews and realize there could be a thousand good ones that didnt get written, some like to complain making it look worse that it really is..how does that old saying go? Ok I started seeing Dr. Benstock in 1999 although not as often as I should have but what he did for me was 5 star all the way, you see all my theeth were getting bad, really bad, I needing fillings, crowns, root canals you name it and in those many visits I did not ever have a bad experience. You see Scott built my teeth back were I could eat, really eat again! It was one of those wonderful life changing times, to this day I'm most thankful to everyone. Also just last week Dr. Benstock made new complete dentures replacing my wife's old pair, he took the impressions and in just a little over two hours, the new more comfortable dentures went in, she's so happy!. The worst dental care I've ever received.DR Benstock professionalism was far from good as a patient the manner of services was not adequate and he was unable to fulfill my needs I went in for which he requested me to have done. After seeking a new dentist I was shocked to see the computer x-rays regarding a tooth that DR.. Benstock missed completely a huge red flag. Recently I have had problems with this dentist. He made two bridges for me and the first one fell out and the second one actually broke in half and broke my tooth of with it! The only thing he did was reimburse me for the first charge at $2800 and not charge me for the second one! He also made a bite plate I could wear since I was missing two back teeth!!!!!!!!unfortunatley now my dental bills entail two implants costing over ten thousand dollars due to his neglect.please find someone else to do you dental work and do not go here!!!!!!!!!!!!BEWARE!!!!!! read more

I had recently had a series of personal losses from family members, to long-time pets. I had a crown come off a built-up tooth from my former dentist. Dr. Bentstock started telling me my former dentist had made many errors and that i should file a complaint to the dental board. He then insisted I have the built tooth extracted. He recommended me to colleagues who agreed the tooth should be pulled. Dr. Benstock nor his colleagues mentioned implants nor the ramifications of that tooth being pulled due to its mouth location. As I was being sedated for the extraction the doctor asked if I was having an implant. Since no previous dentist mentioned it, I said I guess not. Fast forward, my teeth are moving, one tooth is headed towards the center of my mouth, my teeth ache due to the movement (similar to braces ache), my bite has drastically changed, and an implant, crown, braces will cost $20,000. A crown he put on prior to the extraction had to be replaced within two years....recommended by other dentists who were not his colleagues. I do not trust Dr. Benstock nor his work. read more

The last time I had a visit to Benstock's office, I was 3 years old. I went back today 17 years later, and had the best dental experience in a VERY long time. Typically I am afraid to go to the dentist, but everyone here was so gentle, thorough, and caring. They explained the importance of everything they did, gave me pointers to keep everything in good condition, and they didn't keep me waiting for my appointment. Many of my other family members have gone to/go to this facility, and I highly recommend them. It's hard to find an exceptional dentist anymore! read more

Dr. Benstock has been sending out repeated postcard mailings to everyone in town for years. I went to him a few years after not seeing a dentist for a couple of years. He did a root canal and crown on a molar for me. About a year later, one the roots of that tooth had decayed badly, and I went to another dentist and had to have the tooth extracted. I had a bone graft done, and not must wait until I can afford a bridge or implant to fix the gap in my teeth. Also, on one visit, his hygienist did not finish a "prophy" (cleaning) in the allotted an hour, which has never happened before or since. read more

He has been dedicated, caring and excellent throughout my extensive treatment needs, often going out of his way to make sure the process is proceeding as well as it can. Scott is the best dentist I have ever been to. Very personable and really listens to hat you say. Great with shot's as I never feel a thing. He actually makes his own playlist of classic rock for your enjoyment instead of the usual dentist office/elevator music. I was having so much pain in my tooth at 9 pm he actually went to the drugstore and got my prescription then met me at his office. He went totally above and beyond what any dentist would do and even offered to follow me home to make sure I made it ok. I have been to many dentist in my life. This office is top notch from service to staff. They take the time to let you know exactly what their doing.
