Prayers for the families and friends of the victims. However... ...and maybe I am being overly sensitive... ...but did not one person who created this beautiful tribute to such a heartbreaking tragedy stop to think about that putting a tornado slide in the memorial playground built on the site of a home where a family of five sadly perished might be a little bit too... ???

Between Jarrell and Salado, there aren't any parks with walking trails. The Memorial park of…read moreJarrell acknowledges the community who lost their lives in the last Tornado that wrecked havoc upon this tiny city/town many years ago. The outdoor space consists of a baseball field, plenty of parking spots, activities for the chilens to play, grass, and trees. Nothing more, nothing less. I had to create my own path of a trail by scaling up and down the parking lot. Park maintenance does a good job of keeping the place clean. They are out every morning picking up trash and debris. The park is sandwiched between a house on the right and mobile homes on the left. Don't expect too much from this park. Very basic and minimalist if that's your thing. If you are looking for more, Killeen or Georgetown has parks with walking trails.

That is all I know about the actual lake. This review is for the trails and bridges that I was there to photo. Comanche Bluff Trail is a hike and bike trail with 2 trailheads. The East trailhead is located in Taylor Park and costs 4.00 to access. Here you will find a well maintained trail and the Hoxie and Friendship Bridges and another wood bridge. The West trailhead is located off Country Rd 496 and has no fee and limited parking. This part of the trail is not well defined and we got lost and never found the primitive camping area. At this point it was starting to get hot and I was running out of water and would have been panicking if I had not had my faithful Canine with me. I gave her the "Lets Go Home" command and she found the trail back to our car Thank God! There is also horseback trail Willis Creek Park Equestrian Trail 4.00 to access and you provide proof of Coggins to gate attendant also 4.00 fee to access. And onto the main reason we were here - Bridges. I have a weird obsession with old bridges and Friendship Bridge did not let me down! FB was originally built at the turn of the century over Willis Creek. It was destroyed in a 1921 flood and reconstructed. In 1982 it was dismantled and moved to its current location in Taylor Park. FB is a Pratt Through-Truss Bridge a type of bridge patented in 1844 by father and son Caleb and Thomas Pratt. FB is one of only a few of these historic registered bridges and worth the trip.

Came out here to camp at Willis Creek Park. Lake was nice to look at. Campground was clean and…read morenice. Was a good drive to get out here to enjoy nature.
