I always appreciated the helpfulness of Jonathan and Alex, who were the main contacts during my residency. My favorite though, was Richard, the maintenance lead. He was consistently quick to respond to maintenance requests, always friendly, always kind. He even helped me hang a few pieces of artwork because I couldn't do it on my own! I deeply appreciated him and the crew, who showed pride in the upkeep and cleanliness of the building - lobby, gym, elevators, garbages, entryway. Thought it's not worth removing a star, it's worth noting that the front desk staff has seen a lot of turnover over the years. And honestly, their service and temperament have been... uneven. Not as consistently stellar as when I first moved in, with Jonathan and Alex as first points of contact - they've since been promoted (!). But, I moved out in July, 2024 so hopefully that's worked itself out and the front desk staff at Maxfield are back to offering excellent service all around. Anyhoo, I'm writing this review so many months after moving because this year, I missed seeing the NYE fireworks out of the beautiful windows of my Maxfield unit (the #5s)! lol And I want to affirm my primarily warm experience there and encourage new tenants to consider Maxfield as your home, as long as you're gonna care for it as well as Richard and his team do :) (And, as long as you're comfortable navigating the surrounding unhoused community. I never felt unsafe, but not everyone has the same sense of safety.)

The building has a club on the ground floor "the LASH" I live on the 5th floor on the other side of the building, I can hear the music and bass perfectly. It wasn't such a problem pre covid but they recently updated their sound system and Thursday-Sunday nights it's hard to sleep. Currently there is a restaurant being renovated that will also be a club at night so if you value sleep you won't be getting much here. I know it's DTLA and you have to deal with noise but if it's not music from the club then you'll have to deal with all the noise from outside during the day since the windows are very thin. If you decide to take a tour don't go into the basement where the laundry machines are, there is an awful smell that hasn't been taken care of for over a year, I attached pictures to show the cause of the problem (meat juice that's overflown the containers from the restaurant space above). I'm sure it will be brushed off as a one time thing and being taken care of-that's a lie. But if you decide to move in pick a unit on the 2nd or 3rd floor because the elevator likes to break down a lot and will have to take the stairs. There is so much trash that piles up on Winston st, one time a homeless man started a fire. If you like that kind of excitement this is the right building for you. The price you pay in rent you could find a cleaner better building with amenities for the same price or a few hundred bucks more. Bottom line, management doesn't care about your concerns or complaints and nothing gets done on time. Since then we've had 5 Management companies, they're all useless & this place has turned into a shit hole. In 2+yrs! The owners do NOT care at all, thus why we are on our 5th manager. Sept 2025 a fire on the 11 floor each floor got water damage down to the sixth fl. Still not fixed it April 2026! All floors are dirty except the 3rd level, management has ONE lady trying her best to clean, it's too much for one person, she had help before he is now gone & they didn't replace him. When everyone complains is when they bring outside help to clean up. Washer & dryer never working or takes your money, no hot water on some of the machine, yet you are charged extra for hot water. Not kidding. All I can say is there are better places to live, don't move here. Homeless get in all the time, pulling fire alarms, roaming the floors. Never had an issue with cockroaches, they let a lot of low income into the building & it's over run now with roaches. You see rats in the parking lot. This building is the worst, you complain to the manager now & past, the manager tells you no one else is complaining. Yet a lot of us have lived here a long time & we speak to each other, getting the same feed back, "oh they told me no one is complaining" Some bat shit crazy way to handle your tenants by gaslighting them. Don't count on getting anything fixed fast around here, they got a guy at the top who is blocking it all, he has too much power. Wonder if his wife knows he is seeing women on property? Oh yeah & one of the food places downstairs put me into the hospital for a week due to a rat being cooked in there taco meat. Don't eat any taco's facing Broadway. Yes I reported it to Health Dept. Security is questionable, not all the guys, the black guys are gone, who were amazing at their jobs and nothing but Spanish ppl on property now, it's hard to call them in the middle of the night if there is an issue & can't communicate with them. Some of the Spanish security is great, on top of the bums. For years one guy wouldn't give me a key to the handicap lift. He actual said to me we can't have ppl playing on them, I'm 60+yrs old. Meanwhile he uses it to bring in all this supplies for his home of 5 ppl. I'm on a waiting list for two knee replacements. The list goes on and on believe the ppl who have posted about this place! Don't move here, save yourself the headache. Beware of Rats of all kinds here.

The security guards and cleaning staff were all so kind and friendly. Management was a disappointment. My brother lived next door to a guy who played music all day long with a subwoofer / base that made the apartment vibrate. Management was no help and I witnessed them try to make my brother feel like he was the issue as he was the only one complaining. We watched the guy pick fights with crazy, yelling homeless men on the street from the apartment window the final time I visited. What a disappointment it ended up being! My brother survived a year Nextdoor to the most unhinged man I have ever met and had absolutely no support from the building management team. Word of advice to management - don't tell your tenants to "call the police" to deal with a crazy neighbor - how about you show up to your office on time and be a decent human being with some humanity and respect for tenants who are working two jobs to afford your apartment complex. I'd say thanks, but I wouldn't mean it.

Today, Easter Sunday 2026, My daughter booked Tea at the Langham . After church six of us (ages 4…read moreto 80) piled into the car and valet parked and waited by the pink bunny car. We were an hour early so we strolled around the gorgeous property. The grandchildren saw the eggs and we were told that we had time for them to hunt before Tea. Such excitement! Well we were all thirsty and hungry. We had beautiful table right by the harp player. It was magical until I asked Pamela (our server) if any of the sandwiches contained garlic. We forgot to tell mention that when we made our reservations. Pamela said that the vegetarian menu might work for me. The grandsons were restless. My husband was about to pass out. Pamela said she'd bring me a special order and If i didn't like her choices she'd keep trying. Everyone was served. Tea flowed. Non alcoholic champagne soothed us. Then .....Ta Da...the food was presented! I had a tier "special for me." I tenderly tried a beautiful beet triangle. It was amazing. In fact, every mouthful was amazing. Pamela brought me 4 more savory delights. As we packed up to leave. Pamela gave everyone pink flower pens and a large Pink Box full of treats to take home. I was treated like royalty by Pamela. Next time we will ask for her.

Vincent and other maintenance is absolutely wonderful and it's the only time I've ever trusted anyone to go into my apartment without me being home. I've lived at so many high-rises and never felt safe letting any of the staff in my place unattended, I even feel that way at my new place! I never felt this at the Brockman and anyone who came into my unit did everything properly and with care. But the biggest thank you to Mike who really makes a resident feel welcomed from the beginning to the end and always took any of my needs or concerns so serious and handled things in such a professional manner. The space for the price was amazing, however in my year of living here I had a LOT of major issues…read more First, I was dealing with german cockroaches the first three months of living here, either from the previous tenant, issues with the AC, or from another unit entirely. During my residency here, not only did we have the power go out for a few days with no end in sight but also had the AC go out for a whole week due to a project they were doing. On top of this, I had issues with my dishwasher constantly, a window was broken and needed to be fixed, and I had issues with my shower randomly turning freezing cold every 15 minutes. Also, the second elevator only works maybe a third of the time you're living there. To top it all off, i did not receive my security deposit back due to general deep cleaning and painting which technically counts as wear and tear. The leasing office never compensated anyone in the building for any of the above inconveniences. If any of this sounds like fun to deal with, then for sure rent here. But I highly advise against it. Note: parking is also detached from the building in DTLA and is $300 a month.

I requested, multiple times, for additional images of the remainder of the unit. She refused. I then reached out to Sara set up an in person tour or if I could just do a walk in. She said to go through her for an appointment. I gave my availability. No response until the following day giving me 2 hours to drop what I was doing to go view the unit. I couldn't make it. I then reach out this week trying to set up an appointment to tour the unit in person. Sara, then advises that the unit I would like is no longer available. Sara offered no alternatives and didn't see interested in helping. So, if you want to tour this beautiful history building for your next home avoid her at all costs. Work with someone else.

It used to be a well-maintained and enjoyable place to live, but that is no longer the case. There are ongoing maintenance issues that are not properly addressed, including a persistent foul odor in my unit that I've submitted multiple work orders for with no resolution. Common areas and amenities are frequently out of service--gym equipment is often broken, including the AC and a StairMaster that has been down for over a year. The clubhouse also has broken TVs and other neglected equipment. There have also been damages to my vehicle caused by security staff, which were not properly addressed or resolved. There are additional concerns about upkeep throughout the property, including rusted fencing on the rooftop that appears poorly maintained. In addition, wildlife control in the parking garage appears poorly handled, and I have personally seen multiple dead pigeons. Security is rarely helpful when issues arise, and communication from management has been inconsistent at best. Meanwhile, rent continues to increase without any noticeable improvements to the living conditions or amenities. Overall, the property no longer reflects the standards it once had under prior management.
