I have only been here twice, my friend recommended the place. So far, I have nothing but good things to say about their service. They did an oil change, checked other issues and seemed to be honest. 6/6/16 I have continued to use this mechanic since my original review and have been very happy. Usually I have to wait a few days to get the car in because he is very, very busy. That isn't a problem. If I have an urgent matter he will see me immediately. I LOVE this place!! read more

Hands-down, the most honest mechanic I've ever met. Went in with an issue with my X2. Bruce was able to pretty much diagnose it just from our conversation. He scanned it for free and scanned it twice for accuracy. I walked away with great advice on how to keep the air conditioning and the engine running better. He gained a customer for life! I highly recommend going to Bruce with all of your BMW needs!! read more

Barthel Motoren Werke - Front of the building. Look at that pristine VW bus he's helping to restore! Amazing - Auto Repair Near Me - Chatsworth, California

Bruce really knows his stuff! He is the only person I have work performed on my BMW over the last few years. You should do the same.

Bruce was not only very intelligent when he was working my E36, but he was also very sweet and honest. He charges $150/hr for labor but he charged me $40 because it only took him 30 mins to fix a stupid rubber grommet that had me stranded on the freeway due to its age. Definitely going back here because my bimmer always gives me problems, thank you again Bruce ! read more

1981 BMW 528i been serviced by Bruce doing excellent job and quality of work on my car

In today's day and age, it's very difficult to find a trustworthy auto mechanic. You don't need to worry about this issue with Bruce. He's very communicative and knowledgeable. There's a reason why word of mouth gets around about him and his business. I highly recommend and will be spreading the word to my friends and neighbors. read more

Bruce is by far the most professional, fair, communicative repair man I've ever brought my BMW to. Very knowledgeable... And if he can't find a solution he'll do the research for you. Just be patient with his work as he is very busy due to his popularity. Went through three different stores to get wipers for my wife's BMW X2, he got them in one day. Nobody better in the business than Bruce. If you have a BMW do not go anywhere else. read more

Bruce is the epitome of professionalism. He's patient and thorough. I've taken my vehicle to him on numerous occasions and he always keeps me updated on the progress and the price. Amazing work and customer service. read more

If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. I'd read such good reviews, I decided to go in and inquire about having my BMW serviced. I got there and "Bruce" was talking to another mechanic. He never acknowledged my presence, nor did he say, "I'll be with you in a minute." Instead he kept talking like I wasn't there. Finally the other mechanic asked if I needed help & he pointed at Bruce. I told Bruce that I wanted to speak with someone about having my car serviced. Before I could finish speaking he cut me off and quite curtly said, "As you can see I've got a yard full of cars. I'm by myself, call me Monday or something." He then went back to talking. I looked around and all I saw were old broken down rusty cars that looked like they hadn't been driven in years. I was so stunned that I just walked away. If he's that rude & dismissive to potential customers, I wouldn't dare trust him with my car. The positive reviews left here must be from friends & family. I'll keep looking for a mechanic that has basic decency & manners to give my $$$ to. My advice is for you to skip this rat hole. There are shops out there that actually value paying customers, especially in times like these. This is NOT one of those shops. read more

Bruce Barthel is the finest auto mechanic I've ever met. I've been taking my car(s) to him for over 20 years. He has honed his knowledge to the point of pure instinct. Every time I would leave his shop, my car would just purr. When I lived on the West Side, I would drive to Chatsworth just to have him change my oil. Because he would often pick up things that were "'about" to need repair. Bruce is simply a genius with cars. read more

Funny how things work. I was actually looking for a mobile mechanic to come to my house because my e92 BMW had a serpentine belt issue. Bruce does not offer mobile service, but after speaking with him for less than 5 minutes he was able to guide me over the phone and I removed the tensioner pulley my self. WOW!! Over the phone, for FREE. I will take my car to him from now on because I believe that honest mechanics are a rare find. read more

I have taken my vintage M5 to Bruce for years. He has always delivered. He knows these vehicles inside and out and seems to really enjoy his work. I recently sold my M5 to a buyer who also uses Bruce and he bought my car with confidence as a result of know my car was cared for by Bruce. read more

Face it. No one loves taking their car in for repairs. But if it's got to be done, Bruce is the man you want to see. He is one of the most down to earth, straight to the point mechanics I've come across. As a woman, I've often been made to feel stupid and/or over charged just because they could bc I didn't know any different. Not here. Bruce is honest, up front about costs and doesn't do unnecessary repairs. I highly recommend using him for all your BMW needs. He also takes care of our Lexus. He's not just a BMW guy. I'd trust him with any car. The best around! read more

Bruce is the most honest and hard working mechanics I have ever met. He runs a really great business. I had a BMW I brought to him for about 7 years, and he took excellent care of the car for me. Always thoroughly explained problems and has a really good idea of how much certain repairs would cost. When I would get oil changes, he would always explain upcoming service I would need. THE MOST HONEST MECHANIC EVER. I sadly do not have a BMW but I strongly consider buying another one just so I can have Bruce back as my mechanic!!! read more

This is one great shop. I've taken my car to Bruce on multiple occasions when there's something I need done that I can't do myself. He and Miguel have done really great work on my E30, and I honestly can't ask for more. Bruce is straightforward, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. The work is top-notch, and the pricing is fair. I definitely recommend this shop. These guys are awesome. read more

One of the best bmw shops in the valley. Bruce is really nice and accommodating, makes you feel right at home. Tells you exactly what's going on and doesn't force anything upon you like other auto work shops do sometimes. He does a great job of explaining exactly what the issue is, what needs to be done, whether it's urgent or not, etc. He will do everything in his power to help you, and at a great cost! read more

Owner seems like a nice guy but told me he found a bolt (in the oil pan? or somewhere in or near my engine) during a regular oil change. He told me the bolt looked like a cylinder head bolt. I was suspicious, as you have to remove the valve cover in order to see the cylinder head bolts and he did not do this, so how would he know for sure? My car was not experiencing any shaking or anything that would indicate a cylinder head bolt was missing such as an oil leak. In any case, some other car repair I needed confirmed that I had ALL of my cylinder head bolts and this guy was full of crap. Can't say for sure, but perhaps he was trying to run a scam on me? Really not cool - thanks for disrupting my peace of mind, Barthel! I know not to go back that's for sure. read more

Best place to go for any BMW needs. Bruce runs an honest shop and he knows these cars like the back of his hand. He is very reasonable to any other shops and does a great job! Highly recommend! read more

Bruce is amazing. My wife's 7 Series was not starting, and in an attempt to help, Bruce referred me to a dealer rather than bullsh** me into a bill. With the assistance of Brian from West Hills Towing, we figured out it was a battery that had long since past its prime (like me). In short, Bruce replaced the battery and a few fuses when I was literally prepared to scrap the car and buy a new one. (Not another 7 Series) But finding an honest person in this day, age, and in the Valley no less...I'm sorry I can only give him 5 stars. read more

Very Honest. Highly qualified. Delivers as promised. Really knows the BMW, inside and out. Good at using salvaged parts when requested in order to save on costs. I had Bruce repair mostly my older mid-90s BMW 525i. read more

Such a pleasant experience. Bruce made sure to tell me exactly what my car needed immediately and had me wait on things that were not urgent or necessary. He made time for me the day before Christmas, even though he had other customers. I was out of of there in under 2 hours. He offered me a ride to wherever I wanted to wait and gave a multitude of options of nearby businesses. He will definitely be my go to for all my BMW's needs. read more

My BMW would stall for no reason while driving. The dealer spent thousands of dollars trying different things. A friend recommended Bruce. I told him what was happening, he said it sounded like a little plastic flap - a 75 cent part. He replaced it, around $75 total bill. Worked great after. Used him ever since and he has been amazing. Best prices and always knows what's wrong. read more

We selected Bruce/BMW MD because of his positive reviews and he did not disappoint us. He was very responsive, friendly, helpful and extremely honest. We definitely would recommend him to anyone in need of repairs on their BMW. We trust him more than the dealership. Heath and Regina read more

Bruce Barthel is the best deal around regarding BMW repair. He is not only an aficionado and enthusiast, he is easy to deal with, and usually charges less than expected. He will focus on the customer's needs without overcharging by adding more repairs to the bill. Tell him what you want and he does it. I've been to his shop dozens of times and knowing his shop rate, I will estimate about what the bill should be. He is usually 10-20% less. He stands behind his work. Anything goes bad (rare, but it happens) he fixes it for no extra cost. I even buy my auto parts through him because he has better prices than the local auto parts stores and they are top quality parts- German made by BMW approved or recommended OEMs. One of the other things that I like is the quality control he has. As example, his mechanics MUST use a torque wrench when reassembling. Even the wheel bolts are hand torqued to specs. They can do other cars as well, especially if it's a basic item like tune up or brakes, so if you have a Chevy truck that needs a drive shaft or new radiator they will happily repair it too. read more

Bruce runs a fantastic shop. Honest, fast and detail oriented.

I've known Bruce for years now and have taken 2 of my BMWs to him. Bruce fixes them, tunes them, takes care of them. And whatever Bruce says - this is exactly what's wrong with your car and what the solution is. Bruce is also happy to explain to you various things about your car and answer your questions such as should I take the M School at the BMW center. I am lucky to have found Bruce and double lucky to live fairly close to his shop. read more

Bruce is a top notch BMW mechanic, I've trusted him with all my BMW repairs and service. The work gets done on time and within budget.

Bruce is great1 I just started taking my '95 318 to him and he takes great care of it. He checked everything, told me what had to be done, what I should keep an eye on and what I should be doing next time around. He listened to everything I said, made suggestions and worked with me to make sure that all the necessary items got done. He's the best BMW tech I've had in 29 years of BMW ownership. The '86 will be visiting him next. read more
