I've been here once before COVID and I recently visited for the second time last night. My boyfriend and I used the bartaco app to put our name on the waitlist since Friday nights usually get pretty busy here. We took the orange line to Downtown Crossing and then walked to seaport. When we arrived around 6pm, we checked in with the host and he seated us right away.
There's a lot of seating available - both outdoor and indoor, but it still gets pretty packed during dinner time so I would suggest saving yourself some time by joining their waitlist ~30 minutes beforehand. Just don't put your name down too early because once they're ready, they only hold your spot for 5 minutes.
Due to the COVID situation, they now have you order and pay using your phone. To order food, you scan the QR code and add items from the menu to your cart online. You can then either checkout as a guest or sign up for a bartaco account - I recommend signing up because it makes the process easier if you plan on ordering a second round of tacos/drinks and don't want to go through inputting your payment option again. Make sure you put the table number in the "additional notes" section when checking out so that they know where you're sitting. After entering your credit card information, you choose how much you want to tip and then you're all set! You just have to wait for the food. After you're done with your meal, you're free to just leave.
I'm giving them a 4/5 stars because I don't really like their new ordering system. The website is kind of annoying to navigate; whenever I put an item in the cart, it would go back to the main page where I would have to click through multiple things to get back to the part of the menu I was previously at. Another downside was that the tacos take a really long time to come out. For our first order, we had to wait 30 minutes for 10 tacos and then for our second order, we waited 40 minutes for 6 tacos. In my opinion, it's worth the wait but I still wish it didn't take as long. We'll probably order everything in one round next time.
The tacos here are amazing and so delicious. They come out warm and freshly made. Each one is around $2.75-$3.75. Since you order through the website right at your table, it gives you the option to choose between corn tortilla or bibb lettuce. You can also remove certain ingredients you don't want (ex: onions, cilantro) or add avocado for an extra cost. They have a checklist for any allergies you may have and a section for special instructions. This basically allows you to customize your order the way you want without directly telling a waiter.
Tacos we ordered:
- Roasted Duck: this one is my personal favorite. It's very flavorful and has a small spice kick to it. The shredded duck is really tender and the tamarind glaze makes it kind of tart/sweet and juicy.
- Glazed Pork Belly: super juicy and fatty. Can't complain about pork belly!
- Sesame Ribeye: I think this one is relatively new. It comes with kimchi, which gives a nice crunch and a freshness to the taco. The ribeye beef has a sweet marinade, pairing well with the spicy kimchi. My boyfriend really likes this one.
- Baja Fish: super crispy fried fish and refreshing chipotle slaw. If you like the classic fish and chips then definitely get this one. Adding hot sauce gives it extra flavor.
- Spiced Chicken Verde: simple but tasty. Chicken was cooked perfectly and not dry at all. The chile + herb marinade and the aguacate salsa make this taco fresh and light.
- Mojo Pork Carnitas: tasty and tender pork.
Dessert:
- Churros: comes with a chocolate sauce to dip the small-sized sticks of churros in. A nice, simple way to end the night with something sweet.
The staff is extremely friendly and always willing to answer any questions we had. The only time they really came to check on us or talk to us was to make sure we knew how their new ordering system worked, to serve us the food, and to refill our water. If we had any questions then we would put up our table number sign. I found it surprisingly how attentive they were - I didn't think any waiters would see our small table card, especially since it's a big busy place, but one of them noticed pretty quickly and came over to help us.
Overall, great atmosphere and great food. If you're going out for date night or looking for a chill place to eat tacos and drink cocktails with some friends, then go to seaport and try bartaco! For dessert, you can get their churros or ice cream, or walk nearby to Ben and Jerrys or Taiyaki NYC. Convenient location for a night out! read more
