He wished me a happy birthday, told me to save room for dessert because it was on him and then proceeded to tell us about the history of the restaurant, the food they specialize in, the night specials, and his recommendations before taking our drink order. Eric really made the night special for me with his professionalism and obvious pride in the restaurant. He is truly top notch and we will ask to be seated in his section when we return and I highly recommend him if you desire great service. Now the food... Eric recommended the Oyster Rockefeller and Calamari for starters. They were both delicious! For entrees, I had the prime strip steak, fries, and Caesar salad. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium and seasoned just right. The sides were good as well. My husband had the ribeye, mashed potatoes, navy bean soup, and wedge salad. His steak was cooked to perfection and he absolutely loved his chosen sides. My daughter had the king crab sushi roll, which she rated a 7/10. Now, on to dessert. Eric told us his favorite is the key lime pie. I love a good key lime pie so I ordered it. In fact, I always order key lime pie if it's on the menu where ever we dine. Of all the pies I've had in recent years, it was the truly the best with perfectly balanced key lime with a brûlée-d top. My daughter had the coconut cream pie and my husband had the bread pudding. It was almost refreshing to step back into the muggy heat after leaving, which probably isn't the feeling you're hoping to give your guests. It came with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles. It came ala carte with no sides. Service was excellent, exceptionally friendly and really took care of us. One of the best waiters I've come across. We opted to eat in the air condition enclosed "patio" type area which had a bit more light, but was also noisy today due to the tin lined walls/ceiling and another group that was quite loud. Made it a bit hard to converse. Normally don't think this would be an issue. Per his recommendation, we ordered the St. Elmo Shrimp Cocktail with their spicy, signature cocktail sauce and the Crème Corn Brulee. For starters, the Crème Corn Brulee was unlike anything we've ever tried. The crunchy, caramelized top coat and sweetness of the corn went so well with our savory steaks. It's an absolute MUST-TRY!!! But back to the St. Elmo Shrimp Cocktail. WHY would you not warn people that the spicy signature sauce consists of freshly grated horseradish? We took the biggest freaking bite of the shrimp with a heaping amount of sauce and just about died. I didn't know what to do with myself in that moment. My eyes were watering and my nasal passages felt like they were burning off. The saltine crackers definitely helped, but I was questioning every life decision in that moment.
