I don't really post reviews on Yelp unless I'm really happy with the service. Dr. Barry Eppley is a fantastic plastic surgeon. He carefully listened to my needs and wants, and he provided thoughtful feedback on my options and the best route for me. We initially corresponded via Zoom, which I found very helpful and convenient since I'm in California and he's in Indiana. The distance was not a hindrance. He listened to what's important to me, such as scarring. His care went beyond the surgery. He made sure that I recovered and healed properly, so I had several post-op follow-ups. I did not have to fly back to Indiana. Zoom was sufficient, from my own experience. His staff, especially his nurse Jessica, were also very professional and cordial. I felt welcome. His office is very clean and equipped with current technology. Just as soon as I entered his office, I felt right away that the doctor took pride in his profession. I recommend managing your expectations. Before the surgery, the doctor and I had many conversations about any necessary adjustments until both of us felt comfortable with the results. A true butcher. Had surgery w him and he completely botched my face. Chin reduction. Now 5 surgeries and $60,000 later to fix it and my face will still never be the same. He's poorly trained, just a glorified dentist, doesn't know what he's doing, it's really malpractice, selling himself as a plastic surgeon. Beware. I had a facial fat transfer with chin shaping revision surgery with Dr. Eppley. I traveled from out of state just to have him do the surgery, and it was worth it. This was my second chin surgery; I had the first chin surgery done elsewhere. It is difficult to find reconstructive surgeons who can perform atypical chin surgeries besides chin implants. Everything about the process at Dr. Eppley's office, from the initial check-in to surgery scheduling to after care follow-up was very professional and went smoothly. The office staff, surgery staff, and Dr. Eppley were all very nice to me. The results of the chin surgery afterwards were very nice. My chin looked very pretty and I am pleased with the results. Afterwards when I was able to compare my 2 chin surgeries, then I was able to observe that my first chin surgery done elsewhere had actually been kind of a chop block job, with big gapes in the suture and big sloppy stitches. But the surgery done by Dr. Eppley had very careful tiny artistry type stitches, which healed quickly and with no defects in my suture. Dr. Eppley has a very keen eye for artistry and symmetry related to human anatomy. This was a good experience, and I have recommended Dr. Eppley to other prospective patients since then. read more

I realize most people nowadays use Yelp as an actual deciding factor in whether or not to go to certain places anymore, and because of that I HAVE to leave a review. First things first, Do NOT believe the negative reviews. A skilled surgeon can only do so much, and no amount of said skill can fix years of damaging plastic surgery. Don't expect pure magic to come from your experience after you already made the wrong decision to go to someone less skilled. It's not Dr. Eppley's fault he can't de-Michael Jacksonize your face, but speaking of that magic, he's the closest thing you're going to find. Secondly, People may complain about the price, but you get what you pay for. You can choose to have ONE surgery, at a higher price, versus a collection of cheaper surgeries that ultimately end up costing you more than just going to someone who knows what the &$!? they're doing to begin with. Lastly, Thank you, Doctor Eppley. Thank you to you and your staff for going above and beyond to execute exactly what my sister had envisioned, and treating her like family. I had jaw and cheek implants done in 2018. I also had otoplasty to pin back ears and reduce the height of long lobes. The work was mediocre at best with pronounced scarring on my left earlobe. My treatment surrounding the left cheek implant was unacceptable. To give a little background the sales pitch of this office, their focus, is custom implants. Eppley sells them as very effective because they are fabricated using scans of your actual bone. If placed well they are supposed to fit near perfectly. Unlike previous generation (and fairly less expensive) implants which had small medium and large sizes these new-gen implants are 3d printed to be patient-specific. Good pitch, and likely true. However the kicker with implants is they have to be placed properly. Mine were not. Eppley placed one implant too low leaving a nub visibly protruding from my cheek. I returned for revision a month later, for, as the paperwork says, a "left cheek implant adjustment". I went to the "adjustment" fully expecting my implant would be repositioned. After all it was custom to my skull and so the visible protrusion presumably meant it wasn't placed correctly. In our brief, perhaps 2 minute, pre-surgical talk Eppley asked me to point out the nub saying "I think I know what you're talking about but I want to be sure". (I found this gaslighty as it was clearly visible.) I did and he put his finger on it agreeing that he could feel the implant poking. My next memory is after surgery and him asking if I could still feel the implant poking. I still could so he put me back under. (Is waking people for a loopy anesthesia chat then knocking them right back out normal/ethical/safe?) After waking up a second time it was mentioned to me that the implant had been "trimmed". He did not attempt to reposition the implant but simply cut some away in the first revision surgery and more in the second revision removing a good chunk of the implant. The philosophy seems to be put the implant kinda close to where it's supposed to go and cut away any inconvenient protrusions the poor placement causes. I WAS NOT TOLD prior to "adjustment" that his plan was to cut away as much of the implant as it took. If told my OBVIOUS response would be to ask why cutting and not repositioning the implant was the way to go. Ponder the ego and flippancy and deceit of someone who doesn't feel they should tell you what they plan to do inside your own face. After three surgeries I'm left with an implant that's too low and incomplete. Eppley is fond of saying "wounds are not zippers" though he carelessly treated mine like one leading to some feeling loss in my left cheek. There's a hollow on my left side by the outer edge of my eye whereas it's filled in on the right side. The orbital rim augmentation I paid for was simply removed without consent. After the implant was cut I had notable asymmetry in eye shape (as well as on the zygomatic arch) but tried to let it go and get on with life. a month ago after quietly seething for 2.5 years and losing some weight which made the poor work more visible I contacted them to say I wanted to replace the damaged implant. After 3 emails and 2 weeks the response: "Dr. Eppley has reviewed the details of your case and he doesn't feel confident that he can surgically achieve the aesthetic outcome you desire. We wish you the best of luck." I didn't ask for any "aesthetic outcome". I simply wanted something approaching the pre surgical imaging. After I shared my anger Cindy the office mgr called to say that Eppley is offering to pay for the implant but I should find someone else to do the replacement surgery. So to clarify he feels his accountability extends to the $1000 piece of silicon, not the $20k replacement surgery. I've asked a dozen times why he cut the implant rather than to reposition it. They won't answer. The best I can get from Cindy is boilerplate "The dr always does what he feels is right". I've posted a pic of the protrusion visible after the first surgery. I've posted my pre-surgical imaging with perfectly placed implants in blue. Eppley regularly uses this pre-surgical imaging as advertising in lieu of real "after" photos/scans. Their story for this lack of photos is their patients being somehow more private than those of other surgeons who have hundreds of impressive before/afters. The scan is my result. The jaw implants are a bit wonky with pronounced step-offs. The left cheek implant has a chunk missing which was treated as disposable despite it being a key design feature. This causes asymmetric eye shape and negates the high cheek bone look Eppley has made a key facet of his business. In hindsight my surgical experience matches the pre-surgical. After promising three implant design sessions he was pressuring me to sign off on the design after just one. Prepare for a production line feel. There's a reason he's cheaper than doctors Binder, Dhir, and Diamond in LA. read more

Recently had my first experience with filler with Amanda Bouslog at Dr. Eppley's office. I was very nervous because I didn't know what to expect and wanted it to look very natural. Amanda was amazing!!! She spent time asking questions and explaining her approach and asking for my permission to do what she felt was best. I'm so thrilled with her work and my experience! I don't know how he is as a surgeon because I did not do surgery with him. I had a consult for a rhinoplasty and blepharoplasty or brow lift. We talked about my nose and then he started talking about a brow bone reduction ... I'm like wtf?? I'm not looking to go change up my whole face.... I mean I don't care about my brow bones I just wanted a little bit of skin removed from my eyelids... very subtle. It took a long time to get me the quote. It took like a day or 2.... the other doctors I have gone previously to have been able to give me a quote at the time of consultation... not sure why it takes so long. Then the quote I did get didn't include all of the things we had discussed so I sent another email asking for the full quote. The email they sent has just a blank pdf attachment... no quote. The first quote I got for a blapharoplasty and rhinoplasty and small eyebrow scar revision was $16k. I'm sorry.... but I'm saying that is way too expensive for those 2 surgeries. I'm not saying you should go to Mexico and pay nearly nothing but what I'm saying is you can find a decent surgeon here in Indianapolis for much cheaper than that. I had a surgery with Dr. Eppley previously and am satisfied for the most part with the results and considered additional procedures. My only complaint is his lack of charity. He writes in his blog that plastic surgeons are often open to negotiating fees, but refuses to do so himself. His fees are very high in comparison with other surgeons and he seems to definitely be in it for the money which is quite unfortunate. I expected to get several facial procedures done here. It looked like just the right place. I studied Dr. Eppley's online articles and his thinking (on paper) seemed perfectly aligned with what I wanted done and how I wanted it done. However, everything starting with my consultation convinced me more and more that nobody at that office cared to properly address my concerns and answer direct questions. I also began to doubt Dr. Eppley's willingness and ability to deliver good results for me and eventually decided to not have any surgery here. I've started the process by emailing Dr. Eppley directly with my pictures and my concerns. He was prompt in responding, and what he was suggesting sounded very reasonable. I decided to get an in-person consultation. Prior to that, I've asked the doctor by email if there would be imaging during the consultation. He emailed back that it would be, and he said not to worry because imaging doesn't take long. So I paid $200 to secure my 45 min in-person consultation. I traveled from out-of-state. They made me wait a very long time, and even after my consult started, at some point the doctor went to check on his patients and I was kept waiting. In total, my consult took over 2.5hrs, most of it I was just waiting. There was NO imaging during my consult (and that was the most important part for me - that's why I asked in advance). Basically, the $200 was for him to just rehash what we already discussed by email. The consult felt superficial - yes, he answered my questions and had a friendly demeanor, but no notes were taken by the doctor himself, and he barely studied my face. He photoshopped three of my pictures after I left. When I saw them in my email, the pictures looked... not that great. Almost $40,000 in total for several procedures, and my current pictures looked better than the proposed "Afters". I emailed back, stating my concerns in the most polite way possible. The changes to my nose and cheeks looked very different from the changes we discussed. I thought he would tweak the imaging to incorporate the changes I wanted. Instead, I got an email back berating me for having unrealistic expectations (after telling me several times by email and in person that what I wanted was realistic). He only changed the imaging of my nose after several emails. The cheeks and lips were never really photoshopped well. Cheeks looked masculine, and as a woman that had me concerned. Dr. Eppley likes to say that imaging is a communication tool. Well, that's how I was trying to use it. How can a surgeon get a good result if even the imaging is unsatisfactory and he is unwilling to modify it? Do they really expect patients to blindly give them the money? How about showing me as a prospective patient some proof that the doctor has the skills and aesthetic sense to deliver beautiful results? It's been a month and a half and countless emails and several calls to his office, and still no updated imaging. I've also looked for and asked for pictures of women who got cheek implants with Dr. Eppley, and was always told no. He only has two pictures of cheek implants for females online - one where there's no change, and one in profile with a shape that looks quite protruding. No other angles. Yes, most people like their privacy. Yet some people do permit their pictures to be posted, or post pictures and reviews themselves. Given so may years in practice, I find the lack of pictures for that particular procedure inexplicable and a huge red flag. That combined with no imaging means all I have to go on is a verbal promise of a good result, not backed by anything. Dr. Eppley uses his own special implant design or custom implants. They told me I would be getting special design. However, my main contact with the office (Marcia), while friendly, would often confuse them with custom and give me incorrect information. When she promised to get the answers and follow up with me, in most cases she never did. She also made several errors in my quotes (which also took days or weeks to get - unbelievable), and refused to admit to them in writing. Add to that a rude and nosy woman who answers the phone (Tammy), and I wonder how they get any business at all. I was fully intent on getting a surgery here, but not anymore. I'll be taking my business somewhere else - where a doctor can give me great results and I'm valued as a client. read more

This review is for those who are reluctant to travel to obtain Dr. Eppley's services thinking that another surgeon can replicate his work. I Skyped with Dr. Eppley 4 years ago then persuaded myself to use local physicians who were touted as "Washington D.C.'s" and "Virginia's" best. My results ranged from complete failures (implants went in then had to come out) to tepidly successful meaning the implant made little difference in my appearance. So $8K later I finally went to Dr. Eppley and got the result I wanted - just as his computer rendering predicted ( see also website on jaw angle implants). Even if you believe your procedure is routine and technically simple, it has the potential to alter your looks significantly and/or waste your resources if the result is lacking. Thus, you want both a competent surgeon and an artist as well. Dr. Eppley is both. I encourage anyone who visits his website and likes his work to make the trip to Indy. Dr. Eppley did a chin reduction on me. He did an excellent job, the surgery went smoothly and the recovery was very easy. I needed the surgery as result of 3 chin implants (followed by removals)that left extra tissue on my chin that gave my face a long, unattractive look. Dr. Eppley knew what to do-several plastic surgeons had turned me down previously. I look much better than before the surgery. I'm writing this review several years after my procedure. I came in for a not common lip reducing procedure rarely offered due to issues when younger. He is among the best in Indiana and has an office in IU health hospital too. He actually listens to you, rather than making suggestions, he's high end for Indiana but I was about to spend a lot more out of state. When you're new to cosmetic surgery you want the best of the best, the out of state doctor had a popular Youtube channel, he didn't want to touch the top lip due to possible "smiling or gummy" issues (He was just super busy and was a hour late to appointment, and ended up later refusing to operate both without a good reason, after hiring a nurse and traveling), he had all types of bloodless techniques and Dr Eppley and I quickly realized the marketing gimmicks. At first I was scared because the markings were done the day of the surgery and of course thought they were still big after, after several years realized the shape is perfect for me, even the shape which is impossible, and the incision was perfectly straight (especially with discoloration of lips). Not once did he ask for reviews...etc he is truly experienced and well trained.
