This father and son business installed my garage door opener back in 2014 and did a great job at a fair price. Over the years they tuned up my garage door and repaired a few rollers. Recently, the son began running the business. The mother answers the calls and texts the son, however, the son doesn't call back timely or at all. I had a stuck car and wanted to support this small business as I have over the years, but their customer service is terrible. I called 4 times over two days and was given the run around. They lost my business forever as I doubt they would honor their warranty on workmanship or parts. read more

Mike Barron has performed repairs and updates successfully a few times on his own as well as with his father Jim before he retired. Recently things seem to have gone south for this local family buiness. Too, too bad. Mike is not able to handle the requirements previously set by the service. Whatever has caused this breach, I pray for this family to recover and once again be an active part of our local community. I am always happy to deal with Barron Garage doors because they 1.) know what they're doing 2.) do what they need to do quickly and efficiently 3.) seem to charge reasonable prices 4.) always do some little extra while they're here (one year Mr. Barron the dad-Jim - got up on a ladder to replace fluorescent light bulbs for me, just noticed they were out and offered to replace them) and 5.) both are cordial to deal with. My gararge door spring broke. I was happy that they responded quickly and they fixed the door so that it would open. But, the door squeeked, groaned and squaked when it opened. When I called to ask them about it, he was defensive and told me that they didn't do cause it. I wasn't implying that they did. I just wanted the noises gone and asked them if they could back and examine the rollers. He told me that they did not do rollers. Hmmm, a garage door repair co. that does not replace rollers. We used Barron in the past and were pleased with their service. However, when we contacted them about our recent garage door issue, we were told that our problem, if it was as we described (we looked up part names and systems so we could describe it accurately. It wasn't as if we were being vague or inaccurate), couldn't happen and would be a first for them to repair. This problem was documented online and other garage door repair companies later told us that it wasn't that uncommon. He also scoffed at our location (Lake Stevens), saying that we lived too far away, although they had come before and had never mentioned distance as a concern on those visits. We were given a nonspecific time of when they might be able to come out and at that point, with our house going on the market in a couple weeks and the obvious lack of interest in our business, we decided to move on to another company. I have no doubt that Barron does good work because I've experienced it! However, due to this rude and condescending interaction, we won't be using them again. read more

I called Jim on a Monday to replace my broken spring, and his schedule was full (a good sign), but he was able to fix it the next day, Tuesday. His son arrived to do the job, and was very professional, and done in about 35 minutes! He also tightened up a very loose chain, and checked the integrity of everything. When he was done, he said the total would be $140 plus tax, which was right around the estimate Jim had quoted...however, I have to tell everyone about a letter I received 10 days later; Jim sent me a handwritten note, saying his son had given me the wrong price - it should have been $130, and he enclosed $11 cash as a refund! This is something like a miracle nowadays - to find someone so honest! I told both of my sons about it, and they were also impressed that someone in this day and age would do that. We have used them in the past for a garage door opener and they did a great job for a low price. Was referred to them by family. When we called and asked for a door replacement, we spoke with the woman on the phone and made our order. We picked out the door and everything, and she told us they would be here the next Thursday to install it. Thursday came and we hadn't heard anything, so I gave them a call. A man answered and said they never received any such order, and was short and rude about it. I asked if we could then just make the order now if it didn't go through, and he said he would pass, and just didn't want to do our job. It would be one thing to pass on an order you didn't want to fill, I can understand that. It's another thing to say you'll do it, that you'll show up on a certain day, and then just refuse to do it entirely. Was pretty disappointed. These guys are real pros...first of all they showed up early for their apt which worked great...I have an old heavy wood garage door and was waiting for the sales pitch to upgrade to a lighter weight new door ( which I know I should do ) Didn't happen !! So I had got a few bids on replacing the door and it was going to be thousands$$$. I am a very handy girl and called around to get a bid on just buying a door and replacing it with my dads help. Whoever answered the phone when I called was a complete jackass! I'm having an emergency with one of my garage door openers. It will not close no matter how hard I've tried. I called Barron Garage Doors, asking if someone would be available to come out tonight. After some back and forth, he said he could come out tomorrow Saturday morning. Then I asked what time. He asked what time would work for me. Since I have work early, I told him as early as he can make it. And if I heard it correctly on the phone, he said something along the lines of "How the hell early is that." I proceeded to give him a more exact time, 8 am. As if that's not sufficient info, he asked me if that's when I leave for work. I said I usually leave for work around 5 am instead, but I don't think he'd like to be up that early. Before I could finish my sentence to say that I can delay my work a bit and stay home until later, he spouted out "No, I'm not gonna be able to make it. You're gonna have to call somebody else. Thank you" and hung up. Oh and I almost forgot to add that at one point during our conversation, as he was giving me suggestions on fiddling with the door, this guy also told me to "ask [my] husband" to do it. I had not given him any indication that I couldn't check or try things myself, so why assume that I couldn't do it myself and that I would need a man to do it (is it because I'm a woman?)? Rude, sexist, half-ass, impatient. And that's just during the first contact over the phone. I will make sure that this experience will be related to my network so they won't have to go through the same thing while being stressed out about their garage door not working late at night. read more

These guys completely stood me up! I called them yesterday at 6pm and they initially said they could come at 1:30. I asked if there was an earlier time and he said they could do 10:30a. Great! I gave him my address etc. This morning, 10:30a passed with no truck or no phone call. I called their number (which is obviously a home number with an answering machine) and left a message wondering where they were and please call if there was a miscommunication. No call. I was hoping there was just confusion with the 1:30 slot he offered initially, but again, no truck and no phone call! By my 4th call, someone finally answered and he had some lame excuse that they repaired someone else's door with my (rare) first name. Then he chuckled and offered to do it tomorrow. WTF?! These guys might have decent prices, but I would never go with someone that I can't get ahold of (cell phone or call forwarding) again. Btw, my neighbor used them, and she was happy with the work, but thought the guy who helped her was 'grumpy'. He was actually mean enough to bring her to tears. UPDATE: The gents running the business mailed me a note apologizing for missing the appointment and said the appointment slip was lost. I believe them. Summery: the lowest quote of the 3 we received; father and son team; came on time, get the job done fast and professionally, old fashioned (no credit card accepted, no email quote, only by phone). Our garage door opener was dead and need to replace with a new one. I chose the top 2 from Angie's list and Barron since it is close to our house even if it didn't have many reviews there. The top 1 company came for a free estimate, he used the ipad to send me a quote with different options, the least is $1000+ ($550 for the opener plus $600 for other parts like springs since he said our door is heavy). The top 2 company came for a free estimate, they said we only need to replace the garage opener, the quote is with 3 model options form $450 to $550. Barron didn't offer to come up for a free estimate, the lady just gave me a quote over phone with 2 model options, chain opener for $299 and drive belt for $329, and I opted for latter. They called me 20 minutes before the scheduled time and came right on time. The father and son team worked quick and professionally. They are not good at verbal communication, the dad didn't want me to watch him while he is at working, just like my dad :-P but they did a great job! They adjusted the springs and door, installed the opener and the door works smoothly now. They charged me exactly what they quote. The brand and model they installed was quoted $500 by the second company. They don't use Ipad and they don't accept credit card or apple pay, their web site looks outdated but has the essential information(the price they charge!), they don't even have an email address, but I have to say this is the local business I want to support, they are honest, charge reasonably and do high quality work! I was initially pleased with their service. They showed up on time and replaced the spring quickly at a fair price. They even went the extra mile and tried to get the light to work which was a lost cause. However, within a few days I started noticing the door not closing all the way one time, then slamming open. The next time it would slam closed and not open all the way. The problem got incrementally worse every week until I felt the need to have it looked at. About six weeks later when the problem became really bad I called to report what was going on. Obviously something needed to be adjusted. He insisted it had nothing to do with the spring despite the obvious facts. We didn't have this problem before they replaced it. He constantly interrupted and wouldn't let me speak. It became clear to me that he was not interested in providing good customer service and I ended up just hanging up. I couldn't get a word in. He may still be talking. If he had stopped interrupting he might have heard me say I was willing to pay for a service call to get it to work properly. It's just two guys in an old beat up pick up truck. I wanted to work with them because I admire entrepreneurs. He just wouldn't allow me to speak so I could explain how it was getting a little worse every week. He was so defensive that they didn't cause the problem. I'm not saying they caused the problem, although it's obvious that the spring they put on is not working well with the opener we have. Something needed to be adjusted. I ended up calling another company. I'll pay them the service fee I would have paid to Barron. read more
