I stopped by last night for dinner and this place was busy! There was about a 30-45 minute wait. Usually that is a good sign that the place is good! So my family and I waited - our server MJ (MaryJane) was super sweet! She was attentive and awesome! The ambiance in here is nice, I like the vibes! Super artistic and nice paintings. The food was yummy! I got the steak fajitas with chorizo beans and rice. My mom got the steak and chicken fajitas with chorizo beans and rice. My mother also got their soup the Caldo Tlalpeno, she loved it and said it was very good, my grandma also got the soup and she Loved it too! The fajitas were yummy! I loved it and so did my mom and grandma, it smells so good and it comes sizzling to the table. They also give you chips and salsa at the table to start off with complimentary. The spicy salsa they have (you have to request it) is REALLY spicy so if you like hot, ask your server for it. I also got dessert, their churros, it was super yummy! When in Arizona, get Mexican food, right? Let me preface that yes, I know I'm in Scottsdale. People told me to drive away for good Mexican food. But, I didn't want to stereotype. I had to stay close to Mayo Clinic and the Yelpers gave good stars, too, so I folded and listened to them. And just like before, I listened to them. And I have regrets. I am sorry, but while the decor and atmosphere is quite trendy and on-point with its open-air seating, the food is Bland AF. Birria meat is super salty and the veggies that color the meat tops were mealy (tomatoes) and wilted (cilantro). Shrimp taco was questionable upon first bite (not fishy, but texture was offly soft, almost like its been defrosted for too long or inadequately). Tomatoes and cilantro were so old they lacked taste in the free salsa. Elote was not grilled on the cob (only the husk) and lacked any spice. The free chips and salsa chips were probably the best, but even that, I didn't finish. One star because It was cheap: $20 for a drink, 2 tacos, elote, and the (free) chips and salsa. I sat at the bar, and service was fine: she checked just enough and was friendly enough. It wasn't busy at peak lunch time, though I did see some commuters and/or older people there. Good Mexican food here, not too heavy on the stomach and good size servings, lots of choices! My favorite is the guacamole which is prepared and served fresh at your table. This guacamole is very authentic. They also have the best chips, tortilla chips serve warm, and salsa. A good children's menu is available. The service is awesome. They pay a lot of attention to you from the moment you walk in and the food comes in pretty quickly. Love the decor on this place very Mexican and very artsy. It's quite entertaining. I've had numerous friends recommend this place to me if I wanted casual and decent Mexican food in the area and I recently had the chance to try them out. After looking over the menu, we decided to order the Barrio guacamole with less jalapeños, to share, and a trio of tacos each as our main entree. We really enjoyed the amount of pomegranate seeds that was in the guacamole. However, we thought that the guacamole overall was way too salty for our preferences. For my trio of tacos, I decided to get one al pastor, one camaron asado, and one camaron taco with a side of rice. Unfortunately, the al pastor taco was way too salty for my liking. The two shrimp tacos on the other hand, were both enjoyable, nothing amazing, but decently solid tacos. Overall, the service was friendly, not too fast, not too slow. Jose our server was AMAZING! prices were great! However everything going on around us was quite uncomfortable. towards the end of the shift, there were two employees (blonde curly hair, and tall dark skin girl) that were the most unprofessional and rude group of girls i've ever had to listen to and deal with. we heard all kinds of really mean things they had to say about their coworkers, and the guests THAT WERE CURRENTLY IN THE RESTAURANT! nasty comments to each other, inappropriate movements and gestures. Hearing racial slurs from employees of a mexican restaurant was not something I thought I'd ever see. The small female latina bartender (that they were shouting for calling Tina) engaged with them in this entire engagement and even egged it on. There sounds like a huge bullying and professionalism issue here that was unfortunate to see, because everything truly was amazing Jose took really good care of us but the high school girls honestly made the rest of our meal super uncomfortable, and we would really hope someone would get some control of this as we'd love to come back soon with hope of change:( read more

Came for their happy hour deals, but stayed for everything else. The inside and outside offers plenty of seating and it's super spacious which is great. Even though I initially wanted their happy hour tacos, the enchiladas were calling my name and they were delicious. We wanted guacamole with our chips but we could only see the table side quac on the menu, and our waitress was already hustling around to enough tables that we didn't want her to get caught up doing a table side guac for us (since we could see she looked a little flustered whipping one up for the table next for us). This was a pretty decent place. I liked the outdoor patio area. They said if I sat inside the wait would be over an hour on a Tuesday night at 5:30pm. So we got seated right away on the patio. We got the mojohete bowl which was pretty decent. There were not many beans in it and odd to see all the rice. There was something that look like chicken in like inch wide by 3 inch long squares. I could not tell if it was tofu, chicken or fish.. lol. I asked one of the bus service gals for a strew and she gave it to me and did not even smile at all. Overall it's not a bad place. I haven't had service this bad in years. They sat us at a table with no silverware and no waitress in site for the first 10 minutes. We had to flag somebody down & Ask them to please find our server. No one ever came back for refills, it took almost an hour to get our food. And our waitress seemed more concerned about closing up the restaurant, & getting things put away for the night instead of paying attention & bringing us any refills or our food. Very frustrating, especially when you have a little baby who is getting impatient and tired. Tip: learn to be more attentive to your tables, even if you are in training. Portions sizes for the money was a good value for the amount of food but the quality was just not there. We had an enchilada with cheese that was not meted and a taco with overcooked meat. The biggest letdown was the gringa taco; the story of the gringa is the woman that wanted to put the al pastor meat on the melted cheese on her tortilla but here we just got some cheese sprinkled on an al pastor taco. Great atmosphere here with the Day of the Dead theme decor. My husband got the vegetarian burrito. He said it tasted good, but we all agreed it was very small with not much filling. We dined here with a party of 9 while on vacation in the area. Everything about this place was excellent. Josh took great care of us. Drinks: I had the People's Margarita which is one of their specialty Margaritas. It comes on the rocks with pineapple juice. Added a Grand Mariner float and it was Killer. Also, had a Dos XX Amber that hit the spot. Food: I ordered a Quesabirrias taco,Carne Asada Taco, and a Fish Taco with rice and beans. All extremely delicious. We ordered a few appetizers including the tableside guacamole which was amazing. My kids enjoyed their food as well. Overall our experience here was pretty much perfect. We tried the restaurant on a Friday evening with some friends. The decor is beautiful and represents Mexican culture which was really cool. We ordered multiple dishes but I picked the carne asada enchilada with more rice and no beans. I also chose a mocktail made out of lime, lemon, and passion fruit. One thing I noticed while browsing the menu was that they had quite a bit of dishes with chorizo and alcohol. This made my choices pretty limited. Prior to getting our food, we enjoyed some chips and salsa. The chips was fresh and crunch and the salsa had the right amount of heat. The service was great. They were able to take good care of our big table (of 11 adults and 3 kids) and made sure the dishes all came out together. The dish that I picked was not my favorite. I would give it a 3. The drink however was superb, it scored a 5! Overall, prices were ok and we enjoyed our experience. We would likely return to this location but I will order something different next time. read more

I had an excellent experience at Barrio Queen, and a big part of that was our server, Sierra. She was incredibly attentive despite how busy the restaurant was. From the moment we sat down, she made sure everything was taken care of. Our drinks were constantly refilled without us even needing to ask, and she checked in at just the right moments without ever making us feel rushed. Sierra handled the high volume of the restaurant with impressive professionalism. Even when things were clearly busy, she stayed friendly, calm, and focused on making sure our table had everything we needed. Every request we had was handled quickly and with a great attitude. What stood out most was how genuinely kind and welcoming she was. While the overall atmosphere of the restaurant didn't always feel as warm as it could be, Sierra completely changed the experience for us. She created a positive and comfortable environment at our table and made sure we felt taken care of the entire time. Servers like Sierra are the reason people come back to a restaurant.
