The guac was partially frozen which was interesting. I had 2 tacos and both were bad. The chicken in the chicken taco was not cooked all the way which was pretty gross. in November of last year, I was working security at an event near Barrios. When I was on my meal break,I went inside Barrios and was greeted warmly by the hostess Cadence. When I ordered the Thanksgiving tacos, she assured that they would be ready in 15 min. To my surprise, my tacos were delivered to my post by the owner, Mary! The warm chips and salsa keep us coming back. The salsa has amazing flavor and very fresh. The staff is amazing at keeping the chips coming and drinks full. My kids love the skeleton paintings on the wall. We always build our own tacos. The double shells are our favorite! The ground beef, steak, and corn salsa are some of my favorite toppings. I stepped out of the box with the pineapple salsa and it wasn't easy to eat with the large chunks of pineapple. The garlic pesto didn't have much flavor or compliment my build. Came here with a friend before an event on campus around 5:30 on a weeknight & this place was packed! I felt so bad for the staff because they were clearly understaffed but despite this, service at the bar was still great. Bartender was super nice and the happy hour prices on tequila and tacos were amazing. For how busy they were, food and drinks didn't take too long at all. The portion for my one taco was huge! Okay, I've been to the Grandview Barrios before and I wasn't impressed but OSU Barrios changed my mind. The tacos and margs really hit the spot. Far from traditional but the taco selections are packed with flavors and filled to the brim. Their happy hour pricing was awesome! $4 margs and $1 off tacos. On certain days, they have other offers. We did whisky Wednesday (half off pours). We ordered: Pineapple guacamole with chipotle honey bbq was so yummy! Felt like this was more of a summer vibe guac though. La Tierra (soft and hard shell filled with quest, crumbled bacon, Coca Cola marinated steak, pan seared portobellos, caramelized onions and poblanos, chihuahua, secret sauce and cilantro aioli). This was yummy at first but it is quite salty. BYO bowl (cilantro lime rice topped with jalapeño lime shrimp and all of the toppings with chipotle honey bbq) was so refreshing. They also packed it up unlike the first time I had it. El Gringo (soft shell, chili spiced ground sirloin, smoked cheddar, lettuce, pick de gallo, and chipotle crema) is a delicious safe pick. Casa Margarita on the rocks was amazing! It did start tasting really sour/tart towards the end though. Gingerita was made with tequila, ginger liqueur, lychee pureé, house sour mix and rimmed with ginger sugar. This was my fave margarita from here so far. Nice and gingery, perfect for cold weather. However, I do hate that we have to pay for parking since it is downtown and near campus. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time, parking security is a stickler around here. First time here and seems like a fun place as it on campus and full of young people . We were the oldest ones there . The house margaritas were very good with a lot of salt on the rim which isn't always the case . You made up what you wanted on your taco by filling out a form. So you had a wide selection. The deco was certainly different , not sure how to describe it . My only complaint is the table was very small for four people. The bar stools had no backs and no where to hang your coat or purse . The thing about this taco places that have multiple locations is that they need to be consistent. When you get a taco from location A, and you go to B, they should taste the same. I mean, they hit this with their margarita - they're batched mixes. I'm not a "pre-mixed" margarita guy (it does a number on my stomach, I've learned - Silver Patron seems to be my magic) - but every location I've been too and gotten a Happy Hour drink, this has been consistent for me (and flavored salts? Cool. Unnecessary, but fun). The service - I sat at the bar. I went to this location by accident due to an event change, but no big deal. The bartender didn't even register when I was talking to them (so... kind of a bummer, but based on what I said, if she didn't know about it I imagine it was a "OKAY WEIRDO LET'S JUST GET YOU A DRINK AND TACOS" which I would understand). The food - the highlight, really - is good. Damn good for gringo tacos. I know we have a plethora of tacos in this town, and no, they're not "authentic" - but they're good. Damn good. Better than Condados, IMO (not that like that was high bar to cross). They're not Taco Bell cheap tacos, so you won't be grabbing a dozen to consume solo. Maybe that was on the menu, I was just looking looking for a couple options to sate my hunger because I hadn't eaten that day. I got a BLT taco and smoky chicken BBQ one (their names escape me, but that's less important than the flavors). Bacon is always a win (unless it's that candied rock version), and I'm a sucker for bbq chicken. These were stuffed tacos - FILLING. They weren't skimpy, or skinny, or held back on flavor. They were tasty and every bite was delicious. I really recommend the BLT taco (it also had a jalapeno crema? Pickled jalapenos? Something...) and it was just delicious. I've been coming to this location off and on over the years for the constant restaurant rotations, and this is a fun new spot to hold on to the location - it's worth checking out if you're in the area! read more

Barrio was a fun experience. The chips and water appeared almost instantly after we sat down. The crispy chips went well with their smooth house queso. Building your own taco is always a risk, but both options were flavorful and full of toppings. This was my first time at Barrio, and especially being located on High St across from campus, I did not expect this nice ambiance and good service (given the primary audience is drunk college kids). I was surprised by the friendly staff and how fast our orders came. The prices are very reasonable also, for both the tacos and drinks. As for the food, it was not close to an "authentic" Mexican taco, however the portions are large, flavorful and filling. I will definitely be back to try some different combinations, as there are at least 30 things to choose from when building your taco! read more

This is a decent place to stop in if you are looking for a bite to eat, along High Street across from OSU. You can order from a menu of tacos or design your own. We ordered a couple design-your-own, a couple off the menu, and a bowl (only one listed in the menu). They weren't quick to come from the kitchen, but we eventually got our meals. It was ok -- we were hungry and enjoying our own company, so food wasn't the focus. The bowl had cauliflower rice and a spicy pineapple mango salsa - it was oddly spicy yet bland. I wouldn't order again. Hubby liked his tacos; daughter's opinion of hers was "ok". The best part was our waitress -- very friendly and attentive. And the chips and guac were excellent! I checked out the new campus location of Barrio at 5 o clock on a Friday. To my surprise, we found a parking spot right in front of the restaurant, but I think we kinda got lucky. We tried a couple of different tacos, the La Tierra and the El Jefe Loco, plus the Merry Cherry guac and the Jingle Bell Pepper queso (December specials), with guava and a passion fruit margaritas to wash it all down. The food was pretty decent, not my favorite Mexican spot by any means, but I appreciated the creative specials that tasted surprisingly good. The margaritas with added flavoring were way too syrupy, no ifs, ands, or buts about it, but I absolutely love the different flavor options for the rim. I went with cayenne and sugar and my partner went with Tajin. One of the best parts for me was the amazing decor with Mexican/Ohio State-inspired artwork covering every inch of wallspace! Definitely a marvel, and the place looks incredible. The other best part was our server, Andrea. She had the absolute perfect attitude, and was incredibly attentive and good at making us feel like we were the only table she was serving despite the busy Friday night. Hats off to Andrea for sure. We had a good experience with quick and friendly service but it's just average as far as food and drinks go. Columbus has a lot of taco joints and this one gets lost for me in the mix of the other chains. A spot located on campus, it is a good size place for the location. Parking isn't ideal but that's anywhere on High Street. The best tasting item we ordered was surprisingly the Tuscan Guacamole, you wouldn't think sun dried tomatoes, artichokes, queso fresco and balsamic go with guacamole but it was delish. Our tacos and taco bowl were pretty large but sadly didn't deliver in flavor. The meats were all very salty and the salsas/sauces bland. Overall if you're looking to get a quick bite and sit down, it's a good choice but looking for great tacos and drinks, there are better local places. read more

Pros: Cool vibe, there was plenty of seating available on a weekday evening. Friendly and accommodating staff. The chips and salsa were really, really good! It was a different, Smokey flavor but not too hot or too mild. The La Tierra Taco was my favorite and the El Jefe Loco was my husband's favorite from a flavor and texture standpoint. The Vegano and the Shrimp were fine, but nothing to write home about. The tacos are $4- $5.50 each and pretty good size! We had leftovers that heated up well in the toaster oven. Cons: The location is kind of hard to find and there is no free parking. My friend got a ticket parking around the corner, off of High St bc she didn't see the sign :( I got the pomegranate marg and it tasted too much like pre-made margarita mix for me. I asked the waiter and he said it is from a mix and they don't offer a fresh option which is a bummer. The tacos were large, and interesting combinations, but there are too more options in the area that have better margaritas and easier parking, for me to see myself coming back here. read more

The first time I came here a few months ago, I was not impressed at all. I gave Barrio a 2nd chance and can definitely see improvement, but I still don't love it. They don't do Taco Tuesday deals here, but happy hour from 3-6 is $1 off tacos in addition to the drink deal. To start, our waitress was amazing. Campus waiters are usually visibly disinterested or overly perky (and I don't blame them) but she was just fantastic, very attentive and genuinely kind. I didn't catch her name, but the blond waitress with who worked yesterday deserves a raise! As for the drinks, the first time I tried the house margarita (with pomegranate flavor, I believe) it was delicious but I felt absolutely nothing as a lightweight. This time, it was pleasantly much stronger, but the flavor was not very good. I didn't get any flavor added this time, and it just tasted like a very cheap margarita mix. As I got to the bottom, I had to pour my water to dilute it - not because of the alcohol taste but because it was sooo salty and just bad tasting. If you've ever tried Gatorade mix, it tasted sort of like that. However, my partner got the sweet gingerita and it was delicious! Very sweet and not an overwhelming ginger taste. We recommend that for sure. Taco-wise, this is where I was very unimpressed last time. A few months ago, both my tacos were extremely dry despite having added salsa and sauce and just not very good. This time, the tacos definitely tasted better but had their own problems. For one, the ground sirloin was tasty but so incredibly greasy. I had to give some to my partner because it was starting to make me feel sick with all the oil. It's the kind of super thinly ground, undrained meat you'd get at Taco Bell. This taco had the Barrio Secret Sauce, and I couldn't tell if most of it came from the sauce or the meat, but it was veryy spicy. Overall, good taste but a horrible amount of oil. My other BYO taco had the coco-cola marinated steak. My partner and I agreed that it tasted and felt like it had only been marinated for 30 minutes or less; the marinade didn't seem to make it any softer. The taste wasn't bad but wasn't good either, so I don't really think it was worth the extra $1.50. All in all, the location and service here is great for an OSU student, but it's not somewhere I'd recommend if you're not. Very loud and the food and drinks are just okay. I'd probably only come back if a friend wanted to go and it was during happy hour. read more

The place was nice on a Sunday night. Everything was pretty good but pretty average. I got the fish of the day and when it came there was only like three pieces of it in my bowl. Portion sizes were super small and our total was almost $70 which is a lot considering how small the food portions were. Visited the location near OSU. It was delicious but the waitress was kind of short and blunt when she saw we had written "no pico de gallo, please" on the order sheet next to our selection for the menu tacos (not build-your-own). She said that the kitchen just "can't and won't" accommodate special requests on the standard/menu tacos and just brushed it off as if to say "too bad, so sad." I'm sorry, what? What if someone has allergies?! She literally said they only look at the check marks on the sheet and "just don't read it" if there's any other request on there besides the check marks. "They don't have time," she said. No special requests including omission of ingredients would be accommodated, with the alternative being design-your-own taco rather than a menu selection. Turns out that the kitchen DID see and DID accommodate our request for no pico - our tacos came without :) Not sure why the waitress was so rude about it or why she'd say that when really it is possible for the kitchen to do -- even for a busy OSU gameday! read more

He didn't do anything to alleviate the situation and told a mother "nice job raising your son" sarcastically when the son confronted him about his poor attitude and service. We waited 30 minutes for our drinks to come out, ordered the dip trio an hour ago and it's still not here because our waitress said the queso was frozen??? Sorry? I understand if there's an issue and something is going to take longer to come out but she didn't even mention this until we asked and was not apologetic whatsoever. Our server has also not been welcoming and has only been to our table every 30 minutes. As someone who works in the service industry I understand being busy and not being able to see a table every 5 minutes but this is just odd. My first time coming to this location the service was horrible. It is new and still getting started so we were patient, but today we had Dana and he was great! I saw a manager shouting and one of the waitresses, he was completely out of line. After seeing that type of leadership, it was no wonder why the place was a mess. My food came out incorrectly, drinks were mid at best, and the poor waitresses looked like she just finished crying. 1/10 experience. I'd take a hard look at the manager. read more
