In spite of that, they are really good at updating their website. Their entire range of items is posted online, with photos, dimensions, prices, etc. They also have a section for new items, in case you just want to check back now and then. Kudos to them for maintaining such an organized system. I am somewhat biased because we purchased our dream bookcase here. It's a beautiful piece and I've never seen anything like it. That being said, they had a fairly large selection of items, at all different price points. It's mostly furniture along with rugs and smaller home decor items. The service was friendly and helpful. It's a family business, in operation for 30 years. They have sales on occasion and were doing 30% on certain items to celebrate their 30-year anniversary. Our bookcase was one of those items. You can try to haggle but this is a consignment store so they are limited in how much they can adjust the price. They offer both pick-up and delivery. I believe that delivery was $89 per hour so it will vary depending on your item, address, building set-up, etc. The delivery guys were great. I wish they had wrapped the piece since it got a minor chip in transit but I was able to fix it. Not the guys' fault as it was a beast to move and didn't fit in the elevator. Easy parking in a large lot.

Enter, Mecox. As K.K. mentions, I'd love to live in this store. It's so well set up and has a lot of natural light so you don't feel like you're in a giant warehouse of found objects and furniture. The staff including Leslye were incredibly kind offering a bit of background on the store (the largest of the 8 stores nationwide) and never making my friend and I feel pressured to buy anything or leave. I think a place like this is an interior designer's dream with antique camel rocking chairs, geod paperweights, various sizes of painting and elaborate wall decor, and unique furniture from lucite to lush fabrics. While the prices were a little higher, I think they understand who they're marketing to, and the quality seems really great on many of their larger ticket items. Their website also shows a lot of their inventory with dimensions (so incredibly smart) so I may scope for a fancy wedding present. If I had the money, I'd definitely love to deck out a house with Mecox goods!

(rumour has it that persons calling themselves interior designers in the woodlands are coming to places such as this, harvesting great ideas, and selling them as their own. note to self: skip the self-styled suburban interior designers and chat up the boys at MECOX.)

I sat in Herman Miller's Aeron (all three sizes) and Embody, a couple Knoll chairs, and a few others that I don't recall the name. After having been ignored at the previous stores (and doubting their expertise), Sunset Settings was a great experience and I ended up buying a task chair on the spot. I also admired their club chairs, tables, etc., but was out of discretionary funds. Maybe some future day...

After searching Gallery Furniture's overpriced selection, we stopped here based on the pictures. The "store" is a house with a covered patio. While their selection was not huge, they had what we wanted - a modern style pub height table in dark wood. I assume their inventory turns over frequently, so maybe ask the employee about specific inquiries. While little English is spoken, we were able to complete the transaction. Delivery within Houston was free and that day. I would certainly check back here if we need another piece.

It's located in a brick building in a predominately residential area of Sunset Blvd, so it's a bit off the beaten path, but very close to Rice Village if you're planning a shopping trip. The store uses its setting well, with each room in the house featuring a different type of product (jewelry, scarves, plates, whatever) though they all have furniture and larger items displayed. It's really fun to make your way through the house and explore. Many items have a Mexican or Latin American twist, but there's a lot of variety: I bought a beautiful hand-blown vase and some funky wrought-iron coat hooks here. They also have some really cute kids' items like hand-sewn bibs and puzzles. For the most part, prices are more reasonable than comparable stores in Rice Village and 19th Street--it's pretty easy to get a nice gift for under $50. As the holidays approach, I'm sure I'll be visiting Surroundings again. PS: Be warned, the store is closed on Sundays except during the Christmas shopping season.

This place is huge. It got indoor and outdoor spaces throughout the entire lot. Everything was from Mexico just like going to the market. The merchandise was well organized and I was not looking for anything particular. I particularly like the yard critters displays in the outdoor section.
