Seewoo now does delivery across London of essential Asian groceries!…read moreThe full product list is on their website. Be careful, there are two Seewoo websites, so make sure you're on the right one. I've now ordered twice, and while I'm grateful to be able to get delivery, they are not a fully slick service so there might be the following issues: 1) When you email the order, you have to wait for them to call back to give you a delivery date. This could be days/up to a week later. And it has to be delivered the next day after they call you to take payment 2) I had an order come a day later than was given 3) I've had items missing from my order, some charged and some not 4) I've had an item expiring 4 days before my delivery date, and another expiring the same day. 5) They cannot process refunds at this point, the only thing they can do is after COVID lockdown is over, you have to visit the shop in Chinatown with your invoices and complaint, and they will sort it out there. So if you're willing to accept the above, then this is a great way to get some Asian groceries delivered directly to your door.

If you spot a traffic jam on Lisle Street, you've probably found the store - there are usually trucks unloading outside, which blocks up the narrow street. That's quite apt as the aisles inside are also quite narrow and the place can become quite crowded if there are lots of people inside. It has the usual mix of fresh and canned/preserved Asian goods. I don't shop here often and find it a little hard to navigate. The range isn't bad though it's not as comprehensive as some of the bigger supermarkets. However, as it's off the beaten path, sometimes you can find something here which is sold out elsewhere. So you may see me at Seewoo!

I was feeling a little under the weather and just wanted a good chicken soup. To my surprise I found an excellent, flavorful Chicken Matzo Ball Soup here that was so good and memorable. The Brass Rail is set in the busy foodhall at Selfridges. It's partially partitioned off as its own dining establishment. You will be seated by a host and given menus. Now, the only complaint I have about our experience was the attitude of the person what waited on us. She was clearly in a bad mood and made no reservations about the making it really obvious she wasn't feeling her job that day. My husband even asked her if everything was okay, and she just shrugged it off. The table sat next to us about 15 minutes after we got there, literally waited for another 15 minutes to place their order. After the waitress really gave up, they left without having even been given the opportunity to place their order. As to be expected, they were cheery and pleasant despite the waitress intentionally dripping the ball. Fortunately we were able to get our food. I loved the Chicken Matzo Ball Soup. It was fresh and delicately seasoned. Not too salty and just had amazing flavors that made me feel rejuvenated from a very busy, physically demanding adventure in London that day. Even through I'm not much of a beef eater, I would definitely be back based on how delicious the soup was and the exciting atmosphere of being in the Selfridges Foodhall. The service was this visit was poor, but one person does not a business make.

We got a table in a matter of single-digit minutes, the server was extremely friendly, and the food we got (just simple food - a soup for my daughter and their classic reuben for me) was the comfort food we needed in our "a little jet lagged, a little tired, a lot overwhelmed with views, sights, and first impressions" state.

However, Loon Fung does have a butcher, which is unique for Chinatown supermarkets. Look for good prices on pork belly, a favourite for Chinese cooks long before it became fashionable in trendy restaurants. Also worth a browse to see cuts that you won't find in Tesco - pigs' trotters and pigs' ears! I also think Loon Fung is the best Chinatown supermarket to buy longans, a round fruit with brown skin. For a mental picture, think of a lychee and shrink it about half. Now, get a mental taste of lychee, sweeten and intensify the flavour, make a little more perfumed and juicy and that's the taste of longan. Wonderful!! If you see them, get some to try and you won't regret it.

Unfortunately, the cashiers were possibly the slowest ones I've ever encountered in a Chinese grocery. I realise that's not saying a whole lot, considering the robotic speed I've seen Chinese cashiers bag goods elsewhere, but still... Oh, and a giant bag of wooden chopsticks for just ~£1.50? Now -that's- a bargain I can buy into.
