I have learned that if you want to cook authentic Chinese or Thai dishes you cannot pick up your ingredients from just any old grocery store. For lemon grass stalks and fresh galangal, you have to go to a specialist. Long Fung Supermarket is a very large grocery store in Chinatown and it has everything you need. The busiest day is Sunday and if you pop in mid to late afternoon be prepared to wait in a long line. The store isn't organized very well, that's the down side. On my first visit I found myself walking around searching for what I need. The up side is, just about every herb or spice I needed they carried. There are two sides of the store, so be prepared to look on sides, depending on what you want. The easiest things to find are vegetables because they are in the front of the store. The hardest thing to find, for me, was coconut milk, it was in the second half of the store and I only found it after walking around searching for about 10 minutes. Despite these setbacks, you'll find what you need, just not very easily.

Loon Fung Supermarket is my favourite super market shop in Chinatown. It is a decent sized shop which has a wide range of food which is piled fairly high. Additionally, they have crockery so if you need bowls, chopsticks, rice wine jugs etc. it is a good place to go. It also sells more expensive items that I imagine would make good gifts for people interested in Chinese food. Outside they have a good range of fresh fruits and vegetables including, according to season, dragon fruit, lychees, rambutan, Chinese pears etc. Loon Fung Supermarket is a convenient place to pick up all your Chinese cooking essentials.

When I come to China Town I always visit Loon Fung Supermarket. You can find anything here to do with Chinese cooking. I always get my Ozeki Dry Sake here as it is cheaper than other local stores. I usually look up a couple of Chinese recipes to try at home which has ingredients I am not that familiar with but would like to try and take my list to Loon Fung. They always have what I need! You can really explore Chinese food here as well as crockery, teapots and so on. The isles are abit tight though and it is usually very busy so you can get pushed about abit. Nether mind I can take it , but it is not good for prams or wheelchairs.

Probably best (in Chinatown) for veggies. It's also the most modern/sparkling clean. They do have a butchery which seems to have a good amount of business and staff bring out seafood as well.

Loon Fung is one of the supermarkets found in Chinatown and, having visited three seperate ones I believe this one is the best. The chinese diet is so blatently different from ours, this much is obvious once you walk in.. everything is either unfamiliar or familiar but unusual. The supermarket has an extensive cold store, with freezers and fridges lining the walls as soon as you walk in (through turnstiles, to force a one way system. The shop aisles are so thin that this is a necessity). Being flanked on either side by meat however doesn't make for a delectable odour so ready yourself for this. Once you move through the cold section you reach an eye-watering colour display of excellent chinese cuisine. In packets, tins, jars, anything. I personally have a mighty sweet tooth and I was drawn towards a small fridge that contained all manner of sugary delights. I ended up purchasing this amazing little sweet called Mochi, a ball of glutinous rice with a delicious type of filling in the middle. My girlfriend cooks these for me in a soup but cold, from a fridge, is just an entirely different proposition. You need to eat this kind of thing. Chinatown is a very interesting little pocket of London and this Supermarket is an excellent portal into the day to day groceries that Chinese people indulge in. Most of the food is so very good as well, so don't knock ANYTHING until you try it! Because some of the meat in the deli includes pig heart, pig ear... The only person I've ever known to eat pig ear is my dog! But hey, it does taste damn good, like jerky...

Wide range of Chinese products. Amazing that they should have "You Le Mei". I wish they had Master Kong instant noodles.

This emporium feels like a slice of Tokyo, offering a massive selection of authentic groceries, specialty ingredients, and even unique kitchenware and stationery that you won't find in a standard supermarket. The variety of ready-to-eat options is impressive--from fresh sushi and bento boxes to delicious matcha croissants and mochi doughnuts. It's a great spot to grab a quick, lunch or pick up high-quality snacks and pantry staples. Whether you're there to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and frequent cultural events, it's a fantastic experience in the heart of Leicester Square!

I'm not personally into sweet things but they have a great range of sweets and pocky sticks. They sell kitchenware items like chopsticks, cooking utensils and bamboo whisks. They also have cute little stationary that isn't expensive and will make great stocking stuffers closer to Christmas. We tried a couple of bakery items, including a matcha croissant and a mochi doughnut which I've always wanted to try. The doughnut was nice and lighter than a regular one. The croissant was flaky and really nice but the matcha-white chocolate type topping was too sweet for me personally. I'll definitely be back for more bamboo shoots and fermented foods!

Phoenicia is a lot: it's a supermarket, a butcher, a quick-lunch place, as well as a place where you can come to and have a lovely chat with a friend while eating away at their delicious selection of baklava. As for the wraps/sandwiches, there are basically two choices: the Lebanese wrap (a plain flat-bread wrap) or the Moroccan wrap (a flat-bread with spinach inside). Once you've made this difficult choice, you have to make more choices...you can fill your wrap with salads (such as tabbouleh), spreads (such as humous) and meats (such as spicy chicken or merguez). But, if you don't want to choose, you might as well order two kinds of wraps as the prices of one is very reasonable. Later, you may want to top it all off with a nice baklava, which you might even get for free if you're really nice. In fact, speaking of nice, the service here is super-friendly. Everyone is very polite and they bring your food to the table... After your lunch (or whatever you've had) you should go check out their supermarket...you will basically find here anything you need. They also have a very nice selection of organic products.
