    Selection of cakes

Having spent much of the past two years touring around Scandinavia, I was happy to see this place today when walking down Great Titchfield Street. Memories of my last visit to Copenhagen flashed by me...I ate the most wonderful: rye bread topped off with meatballs and beetroot. (By the way, the Smørrebrød literally stands for bread with butter.) I went inside and saw a nice selection of Smørrebrød in the counter, along with some tasty-looking salads. I went for their 3-piece option for £5.95 (take-away). As 1 piece counts a Smørrebrød or a side salad. I took two Smørrebrød and one side salad, which I enjoyed very much sitting back at my desk and watching photos of Copenhagen on my screen ;-) In the back of the shop they have plenty of seating as well as a miniature grocery shop, where you can buy Scandinavian goodies.

Meatball plate with choice of three salads. Take out is about £6

Think of Ikea, but on steroids. This establishment serves both as a sit-down restaurant, coffee bar, and a mini grocery store that specializes in Scandinavian consumables. You have your option of dining in, taking out, or just browsing their interesting grocery selection. FOOD: I ordered the meatball dish with three sides of salads for about 7 GBP (or $11.61 USD) take-out. Not a bad price, especially with this amount of food! The meatballs were warm and delicious and went well with some of the salads I got. I opt for the beets and apple, sweet potato, and bean salad. All of them had different and unique flavors, however my favorite would be the beets because of the subtle natural sweetness of apple and beets. I wasn't a big fan of the sweet potatos because of one of the spices in the salad, but I can appreciate the cultural difference in people's taste pallets. The bean salad was just a healthy mix of beans and (I believe) lentils that really added a nice balance from the higher notes of flavor in the other salads. I also tried their Punsch-roll, which is a dessert pastrie made with marzipan dipped in chocolate on each side. The inside filling is something I can't quite point out, but it's delicious! Don't be fooled by the size of it either. Although it's small, it really packs a "Punsch". I would split it with another person if you never had it before. SERVICE: The staff was very nice and friendly. Even the person stocking the groceries said hi and made small talk. A little goes a long way.

    Meatballs and SO MUCH salad.

I'm in love with this place. It only took me about ten years to actually get here, but it finally happened for lunch (and baking supplies shopping). It's clean and uncluttered but cosy, with big pendant lamps with loops and loops of thick red wire, with prints on the walls of art, products and of course, an elk sign. There are options for gravadlax, herring, hotdogs (Nordes eat the most of those, you know) and of course meatballs - which run rings around Ikea's and you can have them with mash or prepped salads, and of course gravy. The staff are wonderful, with catchy Scandi jokes printed on the back of their shirts. For me, the best bit, is the cakes and the shop. Of course there are cinnamon buns, but of course there are also Daim bar related puds, and dreamlike- which is just gorgeous, and a total throwback to one of my Nanna's bakes with sticky sweet coconut on top. There's a really good range of salty liquorice, flours, pearl sugar, chocolate bars, jams, pickles, and, moomin biscuits- I could quite easily do 80% of my shop in here. Definitely recommend.

Looks good. All for less than £10.

I can't believe I haven't been here before! On our quest to find good places to eat in London for less than £10, fellow Yelper Steve B and I drew up a short list of places that were either recommended or we just fancied the look of. Having a few Scandinavian friends who often come here, it's been on my list for quite a while. Scandinavian Kitchen has a small frontage and could easily be missed. In fact we both had to check on Yelp where it was, as we both thought we had walked too far down Great Titchfield Street, and must have passed it. It was very busy when we entered (well it was 1pm), and we were not sure if we would even get a table. You have to order you food at the counter to the front of the store, canteen style. The dining area is in the centre of the building, with a small Scandinavian supermarket to the rear. We both went for the meatball platter. For £6.95, you got 5 meatballs and a choice of any three salads. The salad portions were huge and actually filled the plate. I went for the traditional beetroot and apple salad, raw cauliflower with rye and almonds and mixed beans with mint salad. The salad choices are seasonal, so can vary. We were lucky that a couple of tables had been vacated whilst we waited for our lunch. We both really enjoyed the food, although I think I would give the raw cauliflower a miss next time, as there was too much of it and it was getting a bit too samey. For £6.95 we both thought the place was a bargain, and will definitely come back. They also offer a Scandi hot dog with all the trimmings for £3.00. In fact all the food displayed looked good, from the salads, open sandwiches, wraps, and pastries Highly recommend!

You're familiar with my last name, yes? Well, though my people can't claim Scandinavian heritage (as Finland is technically Nordic...), it's the closest I may get in central London. There's another Scandinavian restaurant in shoreditch, but it looked quite pricey, so I thought I'd give this one a shot first. Nice little shop, great salads, and nice prices. I'm quite tempted to stop in again for some Swedish meatballs and some scandi-chic groceries. You should too if you're in the Fitzrovia area.. Also, if you're looking for a Swedish copy of Harry Potter while you're munching on your smoked salmon, there happens to be one among the Scandinavian books on the shelves/tables to peruse. They're nothing if not committed to the theme!

I've been coming here for a while now - every Sunday around 11:15, grabbing a cinnamon bun or coffee while we wait for them to bring out lunch. I don't know much (anything) about Scandinavian food but YESSSSSSS! Their beetroot salad and sweet potato salad are ace. Not to mention the little bits of fried onion and dollop of mustard on their roast beef / salami on rye things (I don't even know what they're called, sozz, but they taste real good). Big yes on the Smørrebrød and kladdkaka! I've had better cinnamon buns but these aren't too far off. Although for coffee it's probably best heading to Kaffeine across the road - not a fan of super milky coffee! Popped in last week and they've recently schnazzed up the place! The counter's all done up now - in super slick black and salads in big wood bowls. Also noticed that they sell violet liquorice!! A box for 75p maybe? Not even a liquorice fan but trust me, these'll win you over too.

A wonderful aspect about this restaurant is that you can eat ASAP! The food was fresh tasting and the people behind the counter were very friendly. I had a selection of three sandwiches and a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll or bullar is reminiscent of what I ate while I lived in Sweden. If there is one thing I would change about the restaurant is to serve hot dishes in addition to the sandwiches. The inclusion of Scandinavian goodies was a complete bonus - I got to pick up some of my favourite snacks which I have not seen available in England.

Three assorted salads piled high... sweetPotato salad, Pizza Salad and ¡ my favorite the beers salad !

I love this place ... I used to live outside Stockholm as a kid but then I've spent the last 30 years in sunny California ... Not many Scandinavian places over there unless you count IKEA ( and I don't ) So I was very happy to find this little oasis with all my childhood favorites ... ... Unfortunately due to high blood pressure I could not have any Extra salted licorice or Kalles Caviar ... BUT... there was plenty of healthy food I could try... I had some different salads and the beers salad was my favorite although everything was great !!

Lovely place esp in winter. Not much outdoor space otherwise. The Fitzrovia Women Writers' Group met here for years till it got so popular that we couldn't hear ourselves speak. The staff are charming, the food is wonderful & the shop is great too. A lovely introduction to Scandanavia : it motivated me to visit Stockholm, which I really enjoyed also.

There is not too many places serving Scandinavian food in London and this one beats them all with the atmosphere. It is busy cafe that also sells traditional, mostly Swedish, sweets and groceries, anything from bread to jam. The selection is very random, but maybe the Swedish people understand it better than I do? The staff is just great and always so happy and friendly. As a big fan of the Scandinavian food I ofter go here for lunch that consist from a sandwich buffet, and you can choose either three or five small filled bread from a wide selection that is mostly about seafood and rye bread. Also the cakes are great, my ultimate favorite is the Daim chocolate cake that is made from Daim sweets they also sell. If you are up for a adventure try some liquorice sweets ( very very salty). Coffee is also good and the design of the mugs wicked!

When you're feeling blue, or just want to get you through the day, Scandinavian Kitchen and those Nordics really know how to do a cake right. Their infamous apple and cinnamon slice to be precise was a delight and service was really friendly and relaxed. Will defo pop back if passing for a bun and coffee next time.

    Scandinavians know how it's done!

We tried a couple of bakery items, including a matcha croissant and a mochi doughnut which I've always wanted to try. The doughnut was nice and lighter than a regular one. The croissant was flaky and really nice but the matcha-white chocolate type topping was too sweet for me personally. I'll definitely be back for more bamboo shoots and fermented foods!

Phoenicia is a lot: it's a supermarket, a butcher, a quick-lunch place, as well as a place where you can come to and have a lovely chat with a friend while eating away at their delicious selection of baklava. As for the wraps/sandwiches, there are basically two choices: the Lebanese wrap (a plain flat-bread wrap) or the Moroccan wrap (a flat-bread with spinach inside). Once you've made this difficult choice, you have to make more choices...you can fill your wrap with salads (such as tabbouleh), spreads (such as humous) and meats (such as spicy chicken or merguez). But, if you don't want to choose, you might as well order two kinds of wraps as the prices of one is very reasonable. Later, you may want to top it all off with a nice baklava, which you might even get for free if you're really nice. In fact, speaking of nice, the service here is super-friendly.
