Def hole in the wall vibe, we were able to park right out front and order and wait in the picknik table area. Salty. After a few minutes, they called out our name and we picked up our order of chicken, fries and roll. Salty. The chicken was well-cooked...seemingly to just the right about and the pieces were generous in size. Salty. Fries were also good and the rolls were store-bought quality. Salty. Chicken was moist (if not a bit greasy) and the coating/crust was just the right amount of crisp. Salty. They only sell bottled drinks (coke or diet coke on this particular day) and we had to ask for napkins...thankfully wifie had some ketchup packets in her purse. Salty. Somehow stumbled upon a TikTok about this place just in time for our trip from Houston to the RGV. We stopped by to grab some chicken for lunch and all I can say is WOW!!! So delicious! My husband and I agree it's the best fried chicken we've ever had. Friendly staff, too! Not much for ambience but we sat in the car and enjoyed our meal regardless. Nowadays when fried chicken places are cutting a chicken breast in half to make it two pieces, Barrera's remains true to their service by serving a full large chicken breast in all their plates!! Speaking of service they not only go out of their way to ensure customers are happy, but they will take the extra step to add a few pieces of chicken if the portions look small to them. Recently we arrived at this humble little hole in the wall as they were closing and not only did they accommodate our order but because they could not fulfill the entire order at the end of day, they still stepped up to add some extras!! Table was dirty which is expected to be outside but it looked unclean for days and it was kinda annoying that they didn't have drinks or condiments and they did tell us they didn't have condiments till after having to walk down the street to get drinks. I certainly see why everyone raves about this place. I will say though for the first time being there, it WAS good but it wasn't mind blowing. Let me start with the chicken. The chicken and the breading itself tasted like Churches chicken. But where Barrera's kicks it up is this seasoning they put on everything. Basically like a seasoned salt sort of deal. They cover the chicken and the fries with it. It does make it taste amazing but at times can get super salty. Gizzards and livers were good but I would actually lean more towards Chicken Express. We seen that it close at 7:30 so at 7 o'clock we called and nobody answered for 30 minutes we get there and they will not let us order the lady said, did you call it in? Barrera's has the best chicken in Robstown and is probably better than all the Corpus chains. They season their chicken with a season salt blend as it comes out of the fryer and they do the same with their fries. The chicken can be oily at times but overall, it's great chicken. I really enjoy their gizzards but their gravy is thin and funky. No mustard!?! Be sure to call your order in because it's a stand outside and wait kind of place. read more

I don't think there is anything special about the chicken. It does taste homemade. And the only difference I tasted is the the seasoning the add on top of the chicken after it comes out and is placed in the box. The gravy was good. Fried gizzards were good but tough. They add a shake of spice after frying them, i can only guess it's a combination of old bay seasoning with maybe a season all since the taste of celery is present. They serve the chicken with regular dinner rolls which are fine because the chicken makes up for it. The chicken can be at times a bit on the salty end but still good though. I did try the yellow gravy but was not impressed by it since I found it bland in flavor. Order comes out quick so I'm assuming that the chicken is partially cooked to speed up the cooking process but I may be wrong. None the less the chicken is good and you should give a try. read more
