I typically have a party of eight with me, so I make reservations, and we are always seated quickly. Standout items are the Rhode Island Calamari, Clam Chowder, Baby Back Ribs, and the East Coast Seafood Casserole. I'd suggest it's rare when traveling to find the unique combo of a local place that is really good on many levels. I walked into a packed house and it was organized, and lucky to get a quick table for two. Good bar menu, and a good sampling, printed and clear, of NA cocktails and beer, front edge stuff these days. They are quick, paced, not rushed. Kitchen is efficient. Order in, order out. Great selection focus on bacon and beef with seafood alternatives. This is family oriented, for sure at 6pm, can't say later. Love that this place is right off the highway. Plenty of parking. I always sit at the bar but there are lots of tables in two big separate rooms. Bartenders are super nice and never ignore you. Food is excellent! I've had the Cobb salad which is phenomenal! Burgers are insanely huge and juicy and delicious. They cook them how you want too. Comes with delicious fries. The whiskey bacon cheddar burger is amazing with crispy onion strings, lettuce, cheddar cheese and this delicious whiskey bacon jam. Mmmm! Clam chowder is delicious. Pizza is pretty good too. Went to Barrel & Boards for the first time today and I throughly enjoyed it. My friend had not arrived yet and I waited inside sitting near the hostess stand. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with a smile. Everyone was just so nice. Once my friend arrived we were seated and our waitress was FANTASTIC too. She made great suggestions and knew the menu well. The restaurant is the perfect setting to meet up with friends, family or date night. When the food arrived, it was excellent! I ordered the Barrel's Cobb Salad with aged oak barrel vinaigrette with one substitution of blue cheese that was switched to feta. This salad was so fresh and delicious, I could eat it everyday. I don't think I have ever had such a perfectly cooked and seasoned filet mignon in my entire life. The whiskey bacon jam took it to a completely different level! I could seriously spread that on everything. It's magical explosion of flavor!!! My husband was excited to see that there were Gluten Free Fish and Chips on the menu. He raved about them. His grandmother whom we were celebrating said she had never seen a NY Strip steak so big in all of her 94 years. Our server Jenna exceptionally handled our dietary restrictions and allergies. She personally saw to it that the kitchen staff understood the severity and took necessary precautions. She made sure our needs were met while maintaining a personable nature. The restaurant facilities are absolutely well laid out and tastefully decorated. The only recommendation that I would make is to put handicapped parking near the end of the ramp. We parked in the handicapped parking at the front of the restaurant. While it was near the doors, it required our 94 year young grandmother to climb a few steps. We went to Barrels & Boards last night for dinner and absolutely loved the place. We've gotten takeout from there before but the inside of the restaurant is fresh, warm and inviting and the restaurant truly is a gem. Driving by the restaurant and seeing all the cars that are always there is a good sign of how good the food is but dining there last night truly made me appreciate the place. I ordered the fried shrimp and opted for mashed potatoes instead of fries and added honey glazed carrots as a side, as well. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the crock of mashed potatoes were downright delicious. The side of carrots would be a vegetable you could eat every day and never tire of them. The haddock tacos, bourbon maple salmon and burger were all enjoyed by the other diners and every single item that walked by the table looked just as good as the next. Honestly, it seems like there is not a bad option on the menu. Shoutout to the restaurant for having a really strong non-alcoholic beer list with five different options on the menu. As someone who doesn't drink alcohol, appreciate the listing! A New York cheesecake slice and a cookie skillet served as dessert for the table and thankfully some extra spoons were delivered because we all took at least a bite of the desserts and they were amazing. Service was friendly, attentive and efficient and even though the restaurant was packed the server didn't miss a beat. read more

This place was hoppin'! It's strongly suggested to make reservations, which we did, but we also were extremely early, and they were able to accommodate us just fine. So, reservations are encouraged, but likely not a necessity. We chose to sit outside, and we're surprised that more people weren't. Although, this is New Englan, so, this shouldn't come as a surprise. There was no shade from the sun, so that might be part of the issue. Suggest some ivy latice wall and canvas roofing, or, at the very least, some adjustable umbrellas. 4 Stars Aside from the ambiance, everything else was rather good. The drink last was extensive, and low and behold they had Moscato for my girlfriend! And the beer list had at least three or four I hadn't tried. So 5 Stars The food, to start was good. We tried the tuna tartar with fried wanton chips. Great flavor with a hint of spice that made it stand out from other similar dishes in Massachusetts. Next was the lobstah wonton. These were served cold and open faced, which was a great change. No heavy cream cheese filling, but pure lobster. Great 2nd dish. Our final choice was the seafood tower. And this is where the quality started to dip. For something that offers snowcrab, oysters, clams and shrimp, only half was really enjoyable. The legs should have come with claw crackers to start, and we're served cold instead of warm. interesting choice, but still good. The oysters were meaty and good. But the shrimp were over cooked and rubbery and the clams didn't seem fresh. We didn't complain about this, but just made out waitress aware when she took the food away. Desert was good, the bacon waffle combo is fantastic, and alerting the ice cream to melt into the waffle makes for an amazing bite. 4 Stars. Morrissa, our waitress was friendly and a joy to have a server. overall a good dining experience. we likely went too heavy on the seafood, and that was our doing, but quality seemed to en and flow throughout the meal. Extremely disappointing and frankly unacceptable. I had a gift card for this restaurant and was told they would not honor it because they no longer have a swipe machine to process it. Apparently, their decision to change their payment system somehow became the customer's problem. A gift card represents money that has already been paid to the restaurant. Whether they use a swipe machine, a new point-of-sale system, or some other method of processing payments is an internal business issue--not a valid reason to refuse to honor money they have already accepted. What makes this even more frustrating is the complete lack of effort to find a reasonable solution. Instead of taking responsibility for their own outdated or incompatible system, they simply put the inconvenience on the customer. I have never encountered a situation where a business essentially says, "We have your money, but we changed our equipment, so you're out of luck." That is an incredibly poor way to treat customers. A restaurant should stand behind the gift cards it sells. If you're considering purchasing one from this establishment, think twice. Based on my experience, apparently the value of your gift card is only good as long as their equipment allows them to process it. Very disappointing customer service and an extremely poor business practice. I will not be returning, and I certainly will not be purchasing gift cards here again. read more

We finally made the 40-minute drive to Barrels and Boards after waiting forever to try it. When we arrived, we were seated right away, which was a nice start. The atmosphere inside was great--plenty of TVs and a good vibe. I ordered the King burger cooked medium, but it came out overcooked. They remade it, but unfortunately, it was overcooked again. At that point, I just gave up and ate French fries for dinner. I left hungry and ended up eating almonds when I got home--not exactly the dinner I had in mind. The fish and chips was great. My wife finished her dinner before my second burger even came out. My cosmo was great. I was offered another but just so hungry, I turned it down. Our waitress was wonderful--friendly and attentive--and the staff did comp our bill, which I appreciate. But after looking forward to this experience for so long, it was just really disappointing overall. I know they tried to make it right but timing is everything. A second burnt burger after my wife ate just isn't acceptable. 2 stars for the service but the food was 1 star for me. read more

As others have mentioned, it's nice inside so it's good for the special occasion, but it is expensive for what you get. My fiancé found the restaurant to treat his mom for a birthday meal. We were running errands in Boston and they live in New Bedford so it was somewhat of a midway point. It was a rainy Saturday afternoon and we were seated immediately. We started with a New Bedford Stuffy for each of us, which was good...but not worth $9 each aka $36 for one appetizer type amazing. One of their daily specials was a Tomahawk steak, so we ordered that in addition to his parent's entrees, but the steak needed 45-50 minutes to cook so they also had to wait for their meals. Tomahawks are good, but so much of the weight is in the bone and the presentation, so I'm not sure that they're quite worth the money either. The asparagus that came with it felt overly greasy, but the potatoes were good. Towards the end of our meal, a large birthday party was getting seated in the same room we were in, and it got quite loud. I can't imagine the volume and how tough conservation might be with a full restaurant. read more

As often as I drive by (the bf lives down the street and I drive by all the time but never stopped in) We went on a Friday night and OMG this place gets busy - considering the area I was shocked at how nice it is inside actually. From driving by I expected just a regular place and its really nice. The food was OMG GOOD... The portions and options are crazy. The menu is big with lots to choose from. I was torn on which Shrimp dish to get the Mozambique or Scampi and I was slightly wishing I went with the Scampi. Ill def try it next time. The bf cannot eat Pork and because of that I feel there was lots we had to avoid, but they were able to make the Brussels without which was a great thing. I had not been to this restaurant in years because of previous experiences with poor food and service, but decided to give it another try. Unfortunately, this visit reminded me why I stopped going. When we walked in, there were three employees standing at the hostess station. Not one of them acknowledged us, greeted us, or asked if they could help us. After standing there waiting, we ultimately decided to seat ourselves at the bar. The difference in the bartender's demeanor toward us (females) was immediately noticeable. I was abruptly asked, "Do you want a drink?" while the person next to us received a , friendly greeting along the lines of, "Hi, are you having a nice day? What can I get you?" Good customer service should be consistent regardless of who is sitting in front of you. The food on this visit was adequate--not terrible, but certainly nothing that would make me overlook the service. What stood out most was the attitude. It felt dismissive and unpleasant from beginning to end. Despite the experience, I still left a 25% tip. The bartender picked up the check without so much as a thank you or any acknowledgment whatsoever. In retrospect, I regret leaving that generous a tip because it certainly wasn't reflective of the level of service we received. I came back after several years genuinely hoping my previous experiences were a thing of the past. Unfortunately, based on this visit, very little appears to have changed. Food can be average and a restaurant can still earn repeat business through great hospitality. Poor service and an unpleasant attitude, however, make it very difficult to want to return. read more

Was excited to try this after a reco from a friend and it did not disappoint. Warm and inviting with low lights, a giant bar with a big bourbon selection (they keep the Pappy line within a quick reach). I started with an old fashioned and it was made properly with a clear cube, delicious, not too sweet 10/10. We shared the calamari, crispy on the outside and melted in your mouth. cooked to perfection. Spicy with a nice drizzle, could have used more of the drizzle to dip or a little marinara. Overall 8/10 Tempted by the ribeye and the tomahawk but I'm compelled to order a delmonico if its on a menu. Seasoned well, cooked rare and tender. The potatoes were excellent and plentiful. Swapped the green beans for the candied carrots and so glad I did, tender, sweet, just wonderful and they don't skimp on the portion this is at least 2 meals possibly 3. Will be difficult to not order this every time I eat here. Definitely 10/10. Some may complain about $48 but it was done perfectly and plenty to take home. Finished with skillet cookie. It was soft and gooey and drowning in the sauce. This is only area I wasn't impressed 5/10 Bartenders were attentive and friendly 8/10 Looking forward to returning! read more

Finally stopped in to try this place. I was so excited for the ribs which were good. We were sat right next to this small wall in a very awkward spot (there were maybe 3-4 other parties in the area so it seemed strange we got this spot that was crammed between a large table and a very busy walk way, There was a framed photo on the wall and it was very dirty, I'm talking dried sauces mixed with dust caked on there. The waitress was ok. I don't think the place is worth the price and it isn't as upscale as some make it out to be, maybe we will try again but sit at the bar this time. But i will NOT be ordering the ribs as it destroyed my stomach as soon as we got home. read more

They were dry and had no flavor I would have shared at restaurant but nobody asked. What a wonderful local gem! I was recommended to try this restaurant, and it did not disappoint. I visited on a Monday and had no problem getting a table. The restaurant has several different dining rooms with various styles of seating to accommodate any party! I will add that although it was not busy when my group sat down, the restaurant proceeded to completely fill up for a quick dinner rush. A great sight to see on a Monday; I bet the surrounding restaurants wish they had that rush! The drink menu is extensive. There is a number of different cocktails, and then options/flavors of each type. There is an large variety of bourbons and other liquors. I did notice that the menu cocktails were made with similar liquors, and the server/bartender discouraged "upgrading" any of the liquors to something else. I thought it would be fun to have the cocktail with a different liquor. For an appetizer we tried the special crab bruschetta. It tasted delicious! It was difficult to eat because the bread pieces were very tall. It made it awkward to cut and eat. I have attached a picture of this. For entrees we enjoyed the seafood trio and the prosciutto/gorgonzola flatbread. The seafood trio was delicious, although I think there could have been less onions. I think they are meant to be plate decor and fill out the dish, but there was so many of them (tiny, paper-thin onion slices) that I thought they were meant to be eaten seriously. The flatbread was very good, but has few, tiny crumbles of prosciutto (honestly, it looked like diced pancetta). The service at this restaurant is satisfactory. It did get busy, and our server Becca remained attentive and was more than kind. She is fabulous, and a dinner with her is one with great, courteous service. read more

Girls night out with flights of cocktails for the table. I had the sangria flight which was tasty including the seasonal apple cider one on the far right. My friend had the margarita flight which I tried and would get on a future visit. The restaurant wasn't too loud even being at a table near the bar and made it easy for us to chat and catch up. Service was prompt and attentive but not too many checking which was nice with all our talking. My steak tips were cooked perfectly and I enjoyed having chunks of butternut squash and not the usual mashed you see. The green beans were tender and I love some sautéed mushrooms with my steaks!
