We've eaten here many times and but I guess I haven't reviewed. We decided to go out for Father's Day and since we hadn't made reservations we knew it would be hard to get in anywhere. We live in the country near Sprague so Cheney is not too far for us so we often stop in here on our way home from Spokane because we know they always have the best food and a good selection of our favorite draft beer. My husband's favorites are pizza and beer and he knows how I love their sandwiches so we headed to the Barrelhouse. They have a nice outdoor area which we love in the warm months and with a 6 and 4 year old it's the best spot for us although their indoor seating is also great when it's cold outside. My daughter and I ordered house salads to start and as she said there is something delicious about their salads. For one they are big! They have fresh ingredients; lettuce, mushrooms, red onion and croutons etc. The only thing I can fault them for is they don't have my favorite dressing (honey mustard) but the red wine vinaigrette suits me as well. We also ordered the pizza bites which are covered in Parmesan and come with marinara and creamy garlic dips. I can't say enough about these bites and dips. I should have stopped there but I ordered my favorite sandwich which is the Hawaiian and my daughter had the pesto chicken sandwich. Both of these sandwiches are delicious. Seriously delicious. Husband ordered a pizza for himself and the kids (half cheese for them and half meat and veggies for him). He loves their pizza and he was smart enough not to indulge in the pizza bites so he had room. Service is always friendly. We love this place! read more

Been going here for three years every Tuesday for trivia. Used to be really good! They got some new owners a while back, I'm assuming the staff doesn't like or them or they don't treat the staff right because a lot of the staff that made this place great has left. They've definitely gotten some new cooks. Pizzas started to be cooked to long so the bottom of it is black. Calzones used to be amazing, now there's little cheese in them and they don't cook all the way through so it's all mushy. Then the ambience has really changed over the last couple months. It's like they're trying to make this some new hip place, I think they're forgetting that Cheney is really a smaller farm town only reason it's gotten bigger is because of the college. I had the chicken pesto sandwich the bread was burnt and the chicken was diced into cubes, and was so dry you couldn't squeeze them between your finger and thumb. If they would have put more pesto and cheese on the sandwich it would have covered up the dryness of the chicken! My wife had the spinach salad and it was amazing! WTF! I'll start with the good... my calzone was outstanding and I found the pricing to be very cost friendly. We went in with a group of 10 or so and they were willing to split our bills which I really appreciate. Now for the bad... I'm appalled at the service we received. It was apparent our waiter was a bit flustered but the place was not busy. It was 3:00 on a Sunday and there were no games on, there were maybe 3-4 other parties. He routinely forgot things, totally missed that two women in our party were missing their food then blamed the kitchen. We would have to go up and ask for silverware, dipping sauce, etc. because our waiter couldn't be bothered. At the start of this meal- our waiter pointed out the happy hour specials to us. When we finally got our bills, we noticed the pricing wasn't matching. The waiter lost his cool when we asked and basically said "contact the owner because it's not my problem". I get that the pricing may have recently changed... but update your paper flyers on the table or mention it when you point out the happy hour specials... Sent my two sons in to grab a table at lunch at 12:15 on a Wed afternoon, parked, and walked in to a completely empty restaurant. Dude (only person we saw) was doing something at the bar, and was completely oblivious to us. After a few moments I directed towards him a friendly, 'Hellllo?' greeting. Nothing. Turned it up to 'HELLLLO,' and finally got some inaudible response. I asked my sons loudly enough for him to hear if he had greeted them when they entered. The answer was no. He walked over to our buddy bar, and dropped menus on the table without a word, and started to walk away. We got up to leave. On our way out, he treated us to a snide, 'Sorrrrry I insulted you.' This place had been open for over an hour, and was totally desolate. It's pretty sad to drive what may have been the only lunch patrons away with indifference. I'd read mixed reviews on this place, but wanted to keep an open mind. To summarize, the food was not great, but OK, and the service was extremely slow and not especially friendly. First we ordered pizza and BBQ wings. It took a long time, but eventually the pizza arrived. No wings. After about a half hour, which is how long it took for our server to reappear, we asked about the wings. He said, "Oh yeah, they take a long time to bake." We were dubious about that explanation since more than enough time had elapsed to bake wings. Another 20+ minutes passed and I got up to find the server. He said the wings were just coming up. A few minutes later, the wings arrive. The server brought them in a to-go box and said that *two dollars* would be deducted from our bill. The wings were Buffalo wings, not the BBQ wings we ordered. Prior reviews indicate that the place has an owner that bought the place a few short years ago, and changed the food and the culture for the worse. If the pizza was a more affordable we might order more to support local. I could be wrong, but their competition across the street's pizza are 18". Barrelhouse is 16" and a similar price. Two of their 16" pizzas with a small bread bite appetizer was well over $60 with guilt-trip online tip. There is a reason we only order here every two years. We give them another chance, and like tonight wish that we didn't. We miss Zentropa who they took over from years ago. Zentropa had big and good pizza like a college town should have. Second time here and I really like this place. First time I had a pizza. The second I had a calzone. The pizza was a good size I spilt it with a friend and we had plenty to eat. The calzone (pictured) was serve with the choice of 5 fillings. I chose the sausage, meatball, roasted garlic and mozzarella with marinara sauce. The calzone was very good and filling. The fillers were plentiful and appetizing. The cheese was the right balance so I did feel like I was getting a mouthful of cheese with every bite. The prices are reasonable and the menu is simple. They have happy hour specials on appetizers as well as the drinks. They also have daily drink specials that so all day, 7 days a week. The staff was polite and attentive. They were knowledgeable of the menu. Definitely a must try if you are looking for a casual meal by yourself or with a group. They have ample seating for larger parties. Ordered a pizza, some bread bites, wings, and dessert bread bites. Also ordered extra cream cheese frosting and extra pesto ranch. Placed our order at 6:10-6:15 for carry out. They said it would be ready at 7:00. That should have been the first red flag. If we were doing dine in and it took 45+ minutes to prepare our food, we would have left. Arrived at 7:00 to get the food. They haven't put our wings in, told me it would be another 15 minutes. I canceled the wings, which was a production as the cashier couldn't figure out how to cancel them. They bring the pizza and bread bites. The box is barely warm. I get home, 5 minutes away, and everything is barely above room temperature and they did not include the extras we ordered. So they didn't pay attention to the order, didn't time the food prep well, and it wasn't even a busy night. Not that I expected free stuff or a discount, but I got no apology, just shock that I wasn't willing to wait another 15 minutes for food I'd ordered almost an hour before.
