For a formal Filipino event a barong is the traditional formal wear for men. There aren't many stores that sell barongs, so I am glad that this place in Carson exists. They offer synthetic silk barongs for $70-120 and silk barongs from $120-$280. I bought my barong without a liner (typically a white undershirt) for $70 and there were plenty in that price point. I'm so glad that I was able to try them on so that I could get the right fit. They had so many designs that I'm glad they were able to find the perfect one for me! read more

Boy, do they have a lot of items stuffed into this shop. Going to attend a traditional Filipino event and need a barong? This is your place. Men's barongs range from around $70 to right around $300. It's a bit overwhelming trying to figure out the one you want. But, the woman who works there was very helpful. I tried on two different ones to make sure we had the size right. Then it was trying to decide on the price point and design and color. The traditional off-white was what was needed for our event and she had several different designs in that color. She wound up getting a different one from the back and that one was the winner. They take cash or credit cards. Parking is a bit tight but I was able to find a spot right away. I got to try on the Barongs and find my size. I tried on Medium and it fit, but the one I wanted was out of sizes smaller than Large. But I tried the Large size on and it honestly fit very well. So sizing between M and L is very small. I almost walked out buying more than one! Very nice price compared to prices I see online. Plus you get the convenience of trying on in store. Aloha from Hawaii! I was able to order a custom made barong coat all the way from Hawaii! Sadly there isn't any local shops here that offer custom made barongs, so we figured it was outsource to the west coast. We were supposed to visit this shop on our trip planned in May 2020, but due to the pandemic we were unable to. BUT we still had hope and reached out to this business and thankfully Levy, the owner was understanding and accommodating. She allowed us to order a custom barong and let us do our own measurements. My fault for waiting last minute, especially for my only daughter's wedding in 1 week. I have a suit and I thought I can easily borrow a barong from a friend. I was so wrong. I could not borrow, so the rush was on to find a place. As I searched in Yelp for a store, that sold barongs in the LA area, "Barong & Formal Shoppe", came up. I went there and was able to buy an "off the rack" barong. The barong was $79 and the white undershirt $10. 4.5 stars. I docked half a star for miscommunication, otherwise I got what I came for! My husband wanted to wear a barong for our wedding. As far as I could tell, no one in OC sells barongs. We decided to check out Barong & Formal Shop. Levy and her daughter are very nice. On our first visit, I met with the daughter. She was super helpful, explaining fabrics, styles, sizes. We scored a beautiful piña (pineapple fabric) barong for my son right off the rack. For my husband, we really liked the piña, full button down, mandarin collar style, but they didn't have his size in stock. Luckily, Levy was in the Philippines at the moment, so we were able to order one. We were told it would be ready in a month. A month later, I called and identified myself, asked if my order for the large piña mandarin collar barong was in. I was told that it was, and they'd be open. I trudged down the 405 from OC to Carson. When I got to the shop, it wasn't there. Levy had me confused with another customer. ARRRRRGGGG. I wasn't too happy leaving empty-handed, and to be heading back down the 405 at 6pm was a smack in the face. A week later I received a call that the barong was in. I made sure there was no confusion before heading back up that way. I did complain about the miscommunication and having to travel back and forth fruitlessly the last time. I had my wedding back in December 2018 and Barong & Formal Shoppe outfitted me, my Mom, and my Groomsmen with custom made Barongs for my special day. If you can dream it, they can make it. Any design, and fabric, and pattern, they can do it all. They have beautiful off the rack Barongs and Filipinianas or do what I did and get yours custom designed and tailored. I came to their shop all the way from Cerritos, the item I bought was too small for my husband , I came back to their store and found a replacement but too long. It was closing and I really need the barong the following day. The owner, did beyond my expectation. He altered the barong himself for free even though it's already closing time. He did it by hand. Tita Lani was so helpful. We came in earlier this afternoon looking for a number of barons for an upcoming family funeral. We had been referred to this shop by a cousin of ours who was able to get a Barong from here with very short notice for a very reasonable price. Their selection was definitely more than I was expecting. I was so impressed. Tita knows her stuff and knows her sizing for sure. When my hubby walked in and said that he'd need a Barong, she knew exactly what size he was. Wow! She was so sweet to let us video call our family to be sure that they could all see what sizes and things that they'd need or be getting. I really fell for one of the barongs that was on display. It was so beautiful in its ombre color. I could definitely see it being used for a special occasion like a wedding. Anyway, we ended up buying 7 garments. Lani helped us find all the sizes that we needed. She really did her best to try and make things as simple as possible. I cannot thank her enough. It was such a simple process and she was just so helpful. I thought it was going to be so much more difficult but it really wasn't. I'll definitely be referring anyone we know that needs a Barong to go and check out this shop. The other thing that was nice too was that the shop had both the jusi Tagalog barons as well as the organza ones. So, basically, they have different styles that also fit into different cost/price ranges. Definitely call ahead of time to be sure that they'll be open when you need. When we called the day before we found that they would be open but that in the middle of the day, there were maybe 2 hours or so where they would not be open. So, just to be safe, double check. I hate to write this review, because Tita Levy & her team were so kind & patient. Although during our wedding planning process, our Barong order from them caused THE. MOST. STRESS. Sizing on the barongs was the main issue (when all our groomsmen & my husband showed up IN PERSON to get sized). Thus, a few of us had to travel back & forth to get resized, pick up, return, etc. I don't even recall how many times to be exact. They were not considerate in that sense. In addition, they would question our liking on how we wanted the barongs to fit, putting us at blame for having to get them resized. Also, telling one of our groomsmen that he has gained some weight (when their sizing, to begin with, was SIGNIFICANTLY off). It was a terrible experience, to say the least. If you are looking to pick something off the shelf, this is a great place to go as they have a wide variety of Barong Tagalogs, Filipiniana gowns, & religious items. Although if you need something custom made... GOOD LUCK. I would not recommend going here, but if you choose to, I hope your experience will be better than ours. read more

A very happy mama here! Thank you, thank you, thank you Barong & Formal!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Ms. Levy and Ms. JoAnn!!! I was able to complete my twin sons baptismal outfits today! With my first son, I was able to purchase a baby-sized Barong for his baptism. Some years later, I looked to Barong & Formal for my younger sons baby-sized Barongs. I didn't know they had moved from their old location near Tropical Bakery. I was nearly heartbroken when I drove up, but thanks to yelp*, I was directed to their new address, just minutes away. On my first visit to the new location, I ended up purchasing the one and only small-sized organza Barong they had. I was told by Ms. Levy that another shipment was expected soon, and that hopefully there'd be more organza styles. I paid for the one Barong (very reasonably priced!) and left my name and number with hopes I'd receive news of another Barong to purchase. I returned two weeks later to more organza Barongs, but all were too big. There were plenty of piña/jusi style Barongs in the size I needed, but I wasn't interested in those styles. I left my name and number with Ms. JoAnn this time, as I put a darker-colored Barong on hold. Not even an hour after I left from this second visit, I received a call from Ms. JoAnn that there was another shipment expected that night with more organza styles. A little Barong 411, if you will: The style I preferred is a shiny polyester material. It's lighter in color (more white-ish) and because it's a synthetic material, it's lesser price wise. There's also jusi and piña Barongs. Jusi is made from banana leaf fibers and piña is from pineapple leaf fibers. According to Wiki, Barongs made of piña are more laborious and will probably cost you more. But, these are beautifully made dress shirts and gowns, and they are absolutely worth every penny. I returned today, and met with Ms. Levy again. This time there were more than enough baby-sized organza Barongs for me to choose from! I really got excited, especially since I don't have much time to be picky (baptism is this Saturday!) Ms. Levy was very, very, very gracious and generous to allow me to choose two Barongs, but only pay for one, as I'm allowed to return the first Barong from two weeks ago. She understood our schedule and location differences, so allowing me to purchase what I did today and make my return tomorrow is such a big help! Thank you!!! Customer service is top notch! There is a nice selection to choose from, and if you plan ahead of time, you'll more than likely find what you're looking for here! Prices are very reasonable. You have to understand that there aren't very many stores out here that carry such beautiful merchandise. And, these styles come straight from the motherland Philippines, so you have to allow at least two weeks per each shipment to come in. Store hours are a little weird, but it's understandable. They are open from 10am-2pm and then from 5pm-7pm Monday thru Friday. I was told by Ms. JoAnn that the hotter temps in the late afternoon make it hard to run a small shop. They are also open on the weekends, Saturday from 10am-6pm and Sunday from 10am-4pm. The parking lot is small, but I was always able to park right in front of the store. You can pay with plastic with no additional charge to do so. I was picked as a Sponsor in a cousins wedding and was asked to wear the traditional Filipino Barong. Barongs are Embroidered Formal Filipino Shirts. I first looked in the Internet for the different styles and get an estimate of the costs. I looked in Yelp (near Carson), but no reviews. I then looked through Google and a couple of reviews for Barong & Formal came up. I've been to this shopping center a few time, but never looked into this store. I was greeted with smiles and the lady was very helpful with sizes, fabrics and their costs, as well as the embroidering. From the Internet, I was leaning towards the Mandarin collar over the Standard collar (Shhhh, I makes me look more younger). You normally wear a white t-shirt underneath, but I wasn't wearing one. She asked anyways to try on a size, so when I return, I would know my size. I returned wearing a white t-shirt and picked out three different embroidered shirts to try. Finally picked one made from Jusi. This same lady I met previously, was so helpful and cheery which made my experience pleasant. I was given instructions on how to care for the garment. Did you know, some Barongs are made with Bananas ($170) and Pina or Pineapple (appx $240)? These fabrics are so soft. My husband and I just got back from our destination wedding in Hawaii and we're really happy with the short-sleeved Barongs we purchased from Barong & Formal Shoppe. Prior to our day trip up to Los Angeles (we live in San Diego), I researched this spot on Yelp and thought it was worth a visit after attending another event in the L.A. area. Levy, the owner was there when we arrived on a Saturday afternoon in mid-April and was very helpful with our needs. We told her we were getting married in early August and we needed to order Barongs for our six groomsmen and two ring & coin bearers, but we only had their shirt measurements. Since all eight live in all parts of the U.S., having them come to this shop to try on a Barong before we placed our order wasn't an option. We ended up custom ordering all their Barongs after eyeing a really nice, short-sleeved one in the shop. We put down a deposit and returned back a month later to pick up the orders. We knew of the lag time since these had to be custom ordered and shipped from the Philippines, but since we had plenty of time to get these before we flew to Hawaii, it was the least of our worries. They were delivered on time as we were told. The great thing is that all the Barongs fit nicely for all but one groomsman. We had to place another order and go up a size and since we still had over two months before our big day, we still didn't worry about not getting it on time. Fortunately, I was able to phone in my second order with Levy without any issues and one month later, it arrived. Like most stores that sells formal wear, the return policy is consistent with other places. We didn't bother asking if we can simply exchange the snug Barong for the extra one we ordered, it was our loss, but not a big one for us since hunting for the perfect Barong came easy for us once we stepped foot in this modest shop in Carson. When that order came in, Levy text me and offered to ship it directly to the groomsman. I thought that was nice of her and knew it was worth the extra shipping cost since it saved us time & money in having to make another trip to L.A. just to pick up one Barong. With the tropical weather in Hawaii being super warm and humid as the hot sun beats down on you in the middle of summer, you want to be dressed comfortably. Fortunately, these Barongs delivered and our guys looked great! Our wedding motif was mango and thought it was super cool to find the undershirt for sale in that color at this shop. My hubby wore it under his Barong (which we already owned) and it stood out nicely from the rest of the guys. If I ever need to order Barongs state side, at least I know that we can go to Barong Formal & Shoppe. I know it'd be a whole lot cheaper if I asked my Mom to pick up some the next time she goes to the Philippines, but knowing my Mom's eclectic style, our guys would probably look like back-up dancers for Elton John and they'd probably hate us for that. read more
